Things silver players do better than diamond players(From an Ex-400+ game hardstuck Bronze V player)

In season 3, I was hardstuck in Bronze V for 400+ games. During this time I had a near ~40% winrate and my MMR was so bad to the point when I promoted to Bronze IV, I was only getting +4 lp per win. Now I am a diamond player in both flex and soloqueue, with a smurf in silver. I've had plenty of games in silver, both as a smurf and when I was stuck there in season 3/4.

Playing in both elos I notice a dramatic difference in the skill of players, here is a list of things silver players do better than diamonds (from a toplaner):

  1. Baiting:

In diamond baits are pretty obvious in laning phase and in the jungle, it's very obvious to notice when someone is playing differently then normal and picking fights they don't win. However, in silver their decision making is in a gray-zone so it's much much harder to tell if they are baiting or just making a bad decisions. Due to this, I tend to die to ganks more in silver elo then I do diamond.

  1. Securing kills:

In diamond, players have a decent understanding of their damage output, sometimes when they think they have the kill they won't go overboard and use flash or ulti when not necessary to secure the kill. Generally this is fine, though in rare occasions the champ just escapes due to not using ignite, or withholding an ability that would of killed them. In silver they just blow everything to secure a kill. 4 assassins vs 1 yuumi? Blow all 4 ults, flash + ignite for the kill.

  1. Zoning during the laning phase:

Diamond players tend to farm more, though silver players are more focused on kills. As a result they will give up farm to constantly harass and trade with the laner, even if it means they have 50 CS at 10 minutes.

  1. Solopushing:

Diamond players have a mental timer in their head. For example if I just killed my laner and I am pushing the turret, a timer in my head is calculating when my laner is getting back and when I should retreat from attacking the turret. Silver players do not have this timer at all, they will just keep overstaying & attacking the turret until the laner actually shows themself, sometimes causing them to die This also happens when split pushing, there is no map awareness in silver and they won't retreat if champs are MIA. This is bad in most situations, though many times in silver nobody even goes to stop the split pusher and they end up doing wayyyyy more damage to turrets then they should be able to get away with.

the only better thing that silvers are at than diamonds is predictability nobody can predict what a silver player will do

ive played against silvers that i can't possibly hit them and it's not like they are scripting or juking they just randomly click anywhere so they don't evne know where they are going literally you just have to wait for them to int to kill them (which they do a lot) but still some people are impossible to hit with a skillshot xD

I appreciate the information, but everyone. Please stop smurfing. You're ruining games for us actual high Bronze/low Silver players who belong where we are. It's really hard to enjoy the game when Diamond smurfs pop in every third game to crush you with Yasuo like you had a one night stand with their sister.

Also, I'm curious: Why does every single Diamond+ player with a lower tier smurf account exclusively post to boards on the smurf account, when the information they provide would feel more credible coming from a Diamond player? I never fully understood the reasoning behind this.

  1. Yes, silvers are stupid so reading them is a lot harder.

  2. Being dumb and blowing everything for a kill is certainly a thing silvers "do". But I don't consider that a better thing.

  3. Again, playing with 0 regard for the enemy jungle to "harass" and "zone" is a thing, but I don't consider it a good thing. Sure the time they don't get punished it might pay off, but I frequently see plat players do this exact thing and int because of it.

  4. Maybe the first tower, but low elo has the exact opposite style in my experience for every other tower. Get a couple kills at dragon? Time to recall with 75% hp to buy an amp tome + ruby crystal.

Also worth mentioning this season is a dumbster fire in terms of competitive integrity. Boosting is at an all time high (nice cass, graves, and jinx wr s6 btw), people were climbing with as low as under 40% winrates at the beginning of the season. I personally know that one guy from these boards that is hot garbage and is sitting in low diamond with a low 40% winrate. Guy was silver previously, SILVER.
