Matchmaking still makes the game a coinflip... random!
It's impossible to climb on your own after low Gold, unless:
- you are already on Diamond 1+ level yourself (side note: it's impossible to get there by just playing the game in 2019 - reason: boosters / boosted accounts / smurfs of such D1+ level populate 75% of Gold games and win them... hence the coinflip which team they are on)
or:
2a) you play with a friend all the time (that gets you to high 50-percent winrate, so in addition, you need to play 50+ games a week) AND
2b) you dodge very frequently when the game looks as if it's unwinnable (that means playing 2 or more accounts at the same time to avoid waiting).
And yes, some people (because it's RANDOM) will make it to Plat and to Diamond... that's how random distributions work - I know most of you don't get it, but it's true.
