How important is sound in League?

I've had some problems with my audio jack for years and not until I bought new headphones did sound work properly on my PC, and so I've played League for quite a long time without hearing anything, and it feels weird to use sound again.

This made me wonder though, how important is sound actually considered to be in the game? In terms of gameplay of course. Opinions?

I get a LOT of info from my ears in League,

But I suppose if was deaf, most of it has a visual.... I could adjust.

It would drive me nuts, if my headset just died, and I had no speakers.

I'm 100% used to the audio ques.

games in general without sound feel awkward. i dont know how you managed man.

but generally only a few sounds actually make some kind of difference, most others are just there, or are also coupled with some kind of visual. Sion and Kled ulting at you

Sound notifies you of something you otherwise couldn’t or wouldn’t notice, from hitting a DrMundo Cleaver or Karthus Lay Waste on a target in a bush, to an ally JarvanIV engaging just at the edge of your screen.

Important. Very important. Especially considering some champs have sound cues you have to look out for (like Sion screaming COWARDS when he ults or Ekko saying "step right up" when casting his W etc.)

Sound isnt that important if you're aware on your map, I NEVER in my life played MOBA with sounds or any other MMORPG only if i was on TEAM SPEAK, Raid Call, Discord, Skype and so on, otherwise as Helloween stated in one of their song MUSIC is LIFE. Sona

I remember someone petitioning Riot to add a visual indicator for Sion 's ult, because their deaf brother didn't have any cue that a he was about to have a high speed juggernaut arrive.

i can't play without the sound ques.. from big things like a Kled ult, to small things like Jhin telling me how many shots he's fired. the sounds in this game are so important.. honestly i think they are too important because maybe deaf people play this game, and there just aren't enough visual indicators.. and the ones that there are, are small..

I like to hear when someone is TPing or an enemy casting an abiity when I can't see him. I think it's easier to play with the sound turned on but I increase the Voice volume... I just enjoy hearing the champs talking.

So I guess the general consensus is pretty much that sound is quite helpful but not to the point where being deaf or not playing with sound would influence the gameplay too much and put you at a massive disadvantage. Just another 'edge', so to say.

Personally, not too important. I actually play without sounds 97 percent of the time and I havent seen it affect my gameplay

The audio cues for recalls is super important

I mostly play without sound because I'm either on discord, or listening to music and the sound can be really disturbing. I find it awkward that some abilities require you to listen to them if someone uses it (Sion is the one I have the most problem with). But yeah I'm not complaining, I can play without sound and still do fine.

Also some pings aren't shown in the chat anymore (not sure if they do have a sound effect) like "Asking for help" or "Incoming" but since my eyes are nearly always on the mini-map, I don't have an issue with it but can understand that some might struggle with it

Dodging Pyke while he's invis. You can hear the muffled underwater sounds when he's getting close.

i find i quite nice to react quickly enough to msot things, for example, you can here cho's Q befor you ever see a circle on the ground, allowing you to ract quicker to it than without sound(unless you see cho him self and thus see the animation) Ther are many similar thigns there sound can alert you a bit sooner and make you more aware of you're situation.

That said, it's totally possible to play without and do quite fine, the benefits probably don't matter that much till you reach high elo and even then i guess there are enough that manage without sound aswell.
