Farming

Who else puts farming at number one for important things to do in lane? Who else thinks that achieving perfect CS is better than stomping your lane?

In my honest opinion destroying a game isn't dependent on killing the opponent over and over. I see a lot of people who thinks that if they aren't getting kills, then they lost the game. In reality these people need to understand the importance of farming. In my most recent games on Orianna I have given myself the challenge to achieve perfect CS (10 CS per minute). Of the 3 games that I gave myself this challenge I achieved it in all 3. In all of the games I was such a threat, being able to q+w a squishy for 80% of their health. I think it's important for people to start learning that stomping games is more than getting kills and is instead important for people to farm well.

Why farm minions when you can farm champions? What a noob

honestly it's extremely situational. basically you have to judge when you see the enemy champ whether you can kill them. immobile champs or champs without strong healing mechanics are generally good targets. Also if you're playing a champ with high kill potential like leblanc.Think of it this way: when you kill someone you don't just get gold for yourself you deny them gold. that being said, if you don't kill them or force them from lane, you lose time and resources without getting anything in return. Ultimately you have to make the decision according to the situation.

A kill is worth 12 cs + whatever you deny from the opponent. If you're losing more than that trying to get kills you're essentially wasting your time. If you've killed your lane opponent 3 times but he's up 70 cs from you - you're the one who got stomped.

Exactly. That is why I like to spend more time farming on late game champions than fighting. Sure I may have gotten a kill, but I could have gotten more xp and possibly more gold for the same amount of time spent.

It honestly depends on the match up - if you're up against someone that outscales you and you have high kill pressure early you should definitely go for kills. You also have to take into consideration whose jungling for your team and the enemy team. Lastly you have to think about your skills with the champion and the enemy's skill. It should be a fluctuating thing but I will say that if you're playing Orianna a lot she's definitely more farm oriented than kill. On the other hand if you were playing LeBlanc or something I'd say watch the farm but try to get a few kills if you can.

Yea of course. But in general I want people to try and get perfect CS while surviving lane and see how much it does for them. Generally you should be higher level than the enemy and have more items if they're even in kills with you. Another part of this is I want people at low elos to learn to play champions other than ones reliant on snowballing.

Except anti-snowball mechanics mean if you stomp lane, your only bonus after ~3 kills is your opponent is out of lane.

I think you should be focusing on farming and zoning. The only players that I see that can pull off both at the same time are diamond+ for the most part as it can be hard to juggle both at the same time. Basically you want to position yourself, so you can trade everytime your lane opponent goes for CS while also being in areas that will force minion damage on them if they hit you, or in areas where they simply can't hit you. Perfect farming is more important than zoning, but both are needed to really improve as a laner.

In top lane I like to freeze my lane. In mid lane I like to push out and go farm wolves or raptors. In the very early game, I do focus on zoning, but hitting CS is also important to be doing. I've improved greatly as a laner by being able to achieve perfect CS and to also punish my opponent for their mistakes.

the most important factor about this is reliability. you can ALWAYS lane in a way that you get most cs but you cant always stomp your lane opponent. you just cant. things gonna happen. he plays good, he gets more ganks, his midlane pressures you, his support ganks you, he uses a global and gets a kill/assist, his team gets dragons so he gets buffed, his team takes towers so he gets free gold etc. so much can happen to make him not feed you, the most likely case is that he simply doesnt suck. but farming, you can always do that if your champion is a strong laner and that means you can always get your items.

Exactly. Which is why I encourage everyone to learn someone that is a strong laner (not just a bully) and strive for perfect farm. It will win you games. One of the games I mentioned I even was able to get a penta because of how ahead I was in farm. I had no kills prior to said penta as well.

LOL. You can get more reliably fed by farming minions rather than wasting time going for kills, which are not guaranteed.

As a player who plays mostly mid-lategamers, I prioritize farm first, and kills whenever possible. Farming is extremely important on champions like Nasus, Gangplank, Veigar, Sion, etc. I usually set number goals (EX. 100 CS in 10)

Farming is most likely the way to go, if you were to let someone farm and you just harass, watch yourself get destroyed because you have 0 cs compared to 70 which is worth 2 kills already. But there are times where you have to not farm, and farm faraway, for instance you're being pushed against a fed zed.. if you try to farm he'll ult ignite do his combo then just ult back and boom you're dead. Honestly, just farm, ward and go all in with ignite open when you have harassed enough. I usually think 1 kill = 30 cs.

1 kill actually equates down to more like 15 CS. An average minion is 20 gold, so it takes 15 minions to reach 300 gold. Remember that I'm factoring in cannon minions too.
