Malzahar may be more viable now, but he's just not as fun to play anymore.

I've been playing since pre-season one and mained Malzahar since his release. I loved how he was an immobile mage with no burst that made up for it with dots, zoning abilities, and his infamous hard cc ultimate. Malzahar's concept held up, even against the rise of LoL's mobility creep, which is why he's one of my favorite champions.

Besides being used for extra damage with his ultimate, his old W was an excellent zoning tool. It could create distance between threats, scatter the enemy in teamfights etc. You had to think strategically where to place in order to get the maximum amount of value as it had a considerable mana cost and cooldown time. Combine it with item 3151 and item 3116 and it became deadly hazard.

Though his new passive is perfect (one of the best in the entire game imo), and he still gets the % health damage of his old W tacked onto his ultimate, his new W is far less fun. You press it and it summons voidlings. Not very engaging.

My suggestion is to remove null zone from his ult and change his W into "Void Portal". The idea is that the null zone is a portal to the void where voildings emerge from.

It works exactly like his old W except voidlings spawn from it and charging the amount of voidlings that spawn works the same way it does with his current W.

Thoughts?

"his new passive is perfect (one of the best in the game imo)."

OP is out of his fucking mind. The passive is the #1 thing that made malzahar unbalanceable. The closest thing besides that was putting most of his damage into the minions.

God I hated Season 6 so much.

First lost Dominion, then I lost Malz.

I think if we're ever to have Null Zone back as an ability, we're going to have to lose something...

Might as well be the Voidlings... Because as much as I would love a straight revert, people have been babied too long with Malzahar's current less thrilling safety blanket of a passive and can't live without it.

Riot has already made their stance clear that we're never seeing AD Malzahar again, so just get rid of the Voidlings... I'd rather see them gone than watch them be one shot while remembering how tanky they used to be...

AirKingNeo8/12/2018, 10:31:53 PM4 votes

and Malzahar will never be fun to play against because he kit is literally a stonewall to the point where you can pick him against Faker just to shut him out of the game.

The Great Divide8/12/2018, 10:43:14 PM3 votes

His new passive isn't perfect... it's one of the biggest problems of his kit, and why balancing malzahar has been a nightmare...

Like wut?

THE RlVER KlNG8/13/2018, 4:19:10 AM3 votes

he's not fun to play against either

the reason malzahar is unbalanceable isn't his spellshield. its a ranged, point and click suppression burst DoT

Malak8/13/2018, 4:07:25 PM2 votes

support, give malz a null zone W that spawns voidlings and remove the zone from the ult

Leto GT8/13/2018, 12:57:48 AM2 votes

I doubt they gonna change him anytime soon. There are many threads but he's still played and is perceived balanced. He's probably going to stay like that for a few years sadly. It beaks my heart to say that but he's going to be like this. Look morde.

Khâmul8/13/2018, 8:08:50 PM2 votes

he may have been fun to play with. but before his rework he was cancer to play against

Daddy Ants8/13/2018, 1:18:41 PM2 votes

Why?

Can't press R to kill someone?

Actually need to press more buttons!

I feel like Malz's only issue atm is that he needs three items to come online and right now most games are usually decided in the first 15 minutes. SO unless you are a Malz powerfarming god you're not going to even be a beast until one team is fighting at their inhibs.

I also really hate the new Liandries. It no longer gives pen and pen is pretty important. So you can forget that 3 item spike if you have to counter build at all.

Imo he's just a victim of shitty mage itemization.

The champion is more trash now than ever thanks to the extreme nerf to his E. I've stopped maxing it, since the mana cost and damage is utter shite.

I loved his old R, was so fun just melting people with R when you were fed.

although i think his rework was shit, it was aids playing against him before the rework, so honestly all they did was just remove his playability when reworking him. there isn't anything special about him anymore, and you can't abuse as hard as you used to. Also i just think his ult in its entirety is just way too outdated, with there being so much mobility in the game now, and new champions just bouncing, dashing, and sliding all over the map, its really pointless to think that it's ever going to be a good thing that you stand there for 4 seconds ulting someone. Anyone with a brain is going to qss his ult and walk out or counter play vs him. And if he ever ults at a bad time the enemy team will pop him for doing it.

I think a good fix would be to buff his weak ass E and possibly make his ult unqssable like they did fizz.

i dont know what you are talking about, malzahar is just as braindead as before,

deadlychuck8/12/2018, 10:14:08 PM1 votes

except that he doesn't appear to be more viable in the state that they settled for...

I honestly began to like Malzahar because of him being this damage over time mage (my favourite type of damage output).

A lot of people seem to say that it's best if he would get reverted, I kind of agree (as I don't like his current passive, it's too boring). If not a revert, I think he deserves a full on rework that would be more focused on:

  • His capabilities based on his lore (Doesn't have to be this, just a suggestion, possibly a bad one).

  • Make the Damage over Time the emphasis of his power (removing or replacing certain abilities to allow him to be play around that more safely). Something like allowing him to enter the Void itself through his opened portals granting him invisibility against everyone while the enemy is taking Damage over Time (I don't know, just give him something creative to work with instead of just having a Banshee's Veil for a passive).

  • Maybe changing his R with some other type of ability at the cost to bring back the element similarity of the Null Zone ability that he had.

Malzahar's biggest problem at the moment is the lack of survivability in his voidlings. Where they spawn from will not change that fact. While I'd LOVE to see Null zone back, and agree the voidlings should be spawnable from it, Malzahar feels bad because so much of his damage was concentrated into those little critters, and with them being now useless, he lacks any ability to be oppressive.

Malzahar used to be a carry...his voidlings we ALWAYS a big part of this... since they've been nerfed? He's an ult bot.

His new passive is not perfect... Don't get me wrong, I like it, but it currently prevents him from benefiting from Banshee's veil; the only mage MR item in the game, and needs changing to 100% or removing. If it's giving so much safety to people then that MIGHT give some explanation as to why the rest of his kit is so bad.

So you hate playing Malzahar? Great now you can feel what it is like playing againist him.
