Who has low skill floor and high skill cap?

All I can think of is Master Yi with his invulnerability and damage reduction that new players don't fully utilize.

Yi, Kat, Riven, Vayne

Each one can be played at any level with success. But there's something terrifying about facing one that has mastered the champion.

i think zed fizz any champion that has some sort of mobility and self buff/ enemy debuff

Cindikle1 votes

To a point. But both of those champions are very easy to mess up since there is a bit of timing that has to be done.

That is however what makes it a low skill floor/high skill cap. The higher skilled players will most likely have better timing, less mistakes, and be able to pull off trickier plays.

I'm saying I don't consider them low skill floor champions. While not hard in general, you can't play them for the first time and come out winning unless the other guy is worse than you/has harder champion.

No champion should be able to be played well enough to beat someone who has higher expertise with their champion than the one newer to their champ on like the first game. That's just silly

Cindikle1 votes

Depends on the champ, they're not crated equal and they never will be. Nor should they be. This isn't a 1v1 game.

If you go play Ez mid and face a Kat. Say both are new players with champions they have little experience on. But the Ez player has a little more experience. The kat will probably still win because she's that much easier to play.

Easiest way to compare this is to go to champion.gg and look up a champ. Kat's win rate doesn't have a lot of fluctuation as you win more games. While Ez has a fairly large spike after 50 game. This is because her skill floor is so low that you can even beat those who are better at the game than you. But she has a high enough ceiling that she doesn't fall off as players get better.

Maining katarina is literally just smashing your head on the keyboard. I can give you yi riven and vayne despite me hating vayne but Katarina is just utter faceroll. I've seen diamond players literally just smash every button on the keyboard in any order and just oneshotting people and racking up kills.

If you're talking about game knowledge or knowing when to go in or out, that's general game knowledge, not specific to that champion. but game mechanics wise katarina takes the cake for being the easiest champion to play all the way up to challenger.

While I'd agree she's probably the easiest of the bunch. But a good one is still terrifying. Most of it is knowing your damage limits and who you can kill. Which you have to know her to maximize this.

But nothing on the level of perfectly timing every Yi Q or future carpal tunnel riven players.

Twisted Fate.

I give him a low skill floor because of how easy he is to understand and execute on. Picking Gold Cards is the hardest part of his kit mechanically (is this even mechanical?) but should you fail to draw the gold you're either drawing the card with the most up front damage or the AoE slow, so it's not as bad as it could be.

I give him a high skill cap because of everything else. Having the presence of mind to wait between gold card and Q so you can get more Lich Bane procs, using your Ult for vision or to escape instead of just to pick of someone, when to use red cards in a team fight instead of gold, and the positioning that must be learned by all those who play the champions without dashes.

Definitely urgot

Ryze as his balance is hard to do because players with 100+ games on him wreck while those under 30 do very poorly (35% win rate VS 60% If I remember right ?)

And yasuo because he can outplay anyone if skilled enough with that E (which rarely happens until plat+)

Leblanc Easy to play in my opinion, but if you master her, she's a mid game delete monster that has a decent escape mechanism.

Catastrop1 votes

Rengar Easy enough to play in my opinion but it really takes some skill to learn and time his more trickier combos.

It's mainly champions with a bunch of simple mechanics that can blend together for cool combos. Most old champions wont be this since they usually have a low skill floor and ceiling, meaning they are easy to play and easy to master, or have a high skill floor and low skill ceiling, meaning they are hard to learn, but don't require much more once you do. Mobility can also usually boost the possibility of high ceiling, low floor.

A warning that majority of these champions are champions people complain about since they are easy to get into and offer a lot when mastered, meaning they are usually EVERYWHERE! People usually underestimate the depth of these characters. That being said, I likely missed some myself. However, the main champions to look out for when they are OP is low floor and low ceiling OP champs since that means anyone can use them and be overpowered with them. See Preseason 5 Warwick. Also, I would put Vayne here, but she is more of a medium ceiling since she isn't super, super hard to master to perfection. Also notice that most of these champions are mobile and need map awareness and such or have a complex mechanic that usually needs management.

nasus. if you dont know what you're doing your gonna feed hard. but his kit is extremely simple to use. But the amount of game knowledge needed to play him properly is pretty immense.

KONO RUBICK DA1 votes

you know even in diamond they don't use yi invul because it is used as a gap closer

Leblanc, Zed, Fizz (though his ceiling isnt all that high), Lee sin, Nidalee. There are other champions who have high skill ceilings but have diminishing returns on the mastery, like Taliyah who can be picked up pretty easy early, but mastering her can definately open up new oppertunities but she doesnt nearly gain the potenial of someone like zed or Lee or Leblanc who have insane potenial at skill ceilling, its like yea she has a high ceilling but its not all the impressive, while zeds vaulted ceilings have golden victorian crown molding and a diamond chandelier.
