Looking for Tips to Improve as Jhin, the Virtuoso

So, since his release, Jhin has been one of my favorite ADC's (in both theme and playstyle) - and I've recently been trying to reach higher Mastery Ranks as him, but I'm also well aware that I'm not going to get far past MR5 on my own, so, I'd like to ask for any tips to help strengthen my performance as the Golden Demon that I may one day carry a blue banner in the loading screens with him.

Generally, here's what I have down for the most part.

  • Unless things go seriously awry, I'm proficient at farming minions.
  • I'm also a fairly good judge of where my 4th shot from Whisper should best go.
  • I know that, for the most part, my Captive Audience traps should be placed in the lane bushes and near jungle entry points (Blue-side Tri-bush, River entrance) and in corners enemies are likely to move to for advantageous positioning (the corners of the walls by either turret)

This is what I'm not great at but will improve on my own.

  • While I do know roughly when's a good time to begin Curtain Call and when's not, early game I often play too safe, even when Curtain Call could secure a kill and force the enemy back, I still anticipate that the enemy laner with the higher health value is going to body-block it, and mid/late game, I often start my Curtain Call from the Jungle to fire into teamfights.
  • Of all the things I'd hoped not to get rusty with, aiming skillshots is one of them - I'll get better over time, but I know full well I'll want to expedite that if I'm going to succeed as Jhin, since I need to rely on more than Whisper crits and good Curtain Calls.

And lastly, some things I need external opinions on.

  • For one, I know roughly what I should be building as Jhin - for the first few items, anyway. One of my core items is Rapid Firecannon for increased range and crit reliability to trigger Death in Four Acts' Movement Speed boost, and some form of Lethality item (I usually take either Youmuu's Ghostblade or the Duskblade of Draktharr, the former for increased movespeed and the latter for powerful opening shots) - but after that I'm generally at a loss. I'd appreciate some suggested builds - especially build paths, if some could and would spare the time.
  • Second, while I'm fairly well-versed in most Champion Synergies (like which ADC's work best with enchanters/disruptors, which ones do well to have vanguards, etc.) - Jhin is someone I unfortunately draw blanks on - if anyone can suggest good complimentary Supports to work with Jhin, I'd also be very appreciative of that.
  • And, lastly, the main reason for posting this; I need to learn how to better play Jhin, so any general or advanced tips or advice is more than welcome.

Thank any and all for reading, and I hope to be able to learn something new and beneficial from some of you soon.

Going in order of your questions

  1. There are two builds that are strong on Jhin at the moment in my opinion. There is the full lethality build Youmuu>Edge of Night>Duskblade>LW>situational item + boots somewhere in there. This build is strong against a full team of squishies, but does poorly into tanks. Contrary to the prevailing thought on the boards, lethality is bad against armor stackers. The counter to lethality is building armor, and you won't scratch tanks with this build until at least LW, and you still won't do too much. Use this build against a squishy enemy team.

The second build is a unique hybrid of lethality/crit that works on Jhin because he doesn't need attack speed like almost every other adc. Ghostblade>edge>Firecannon/IE>IE/Firecannon>situational (probably LW) with boots thrown in there somewhere. This build is much better against tanks.

You say that you like duskblade, but I personally don't. It is hard to make use of the passive, and without the passive Youmuu's gives more lethality and Edge of Night gives that wonderful spellshield that synergizes especially well with Curtain call. I build it in the first build purely for the lethality it gives because there is no other option, and it is built last of the lethality items.

  1. Jhin likes supports that he can CC chain with. Obviously this depends on the matchup as well, but something like a Brand stun>E>W root is pretty potent. Nami is pretty good vs Varus for keeping you sustained as long as you don't take all-ins (He has grevious wounds on his E).

3)Its hard to say without seeing, but here are common mistakes I see with Jhin -Not holding 4th shot when it won't kill. If you're in a teamfight and have your 4th shot, if it won't kill your target but it will in a second or a second and a half after your teammates do some damage, HOLD IT and use it then. Its obvious when you say it, but a lot of people just shoot it like any other adc and have to reload, and they get away. -Curtain Call can be used for the utility if your team lacks an engage. You can open up and start firing shots for the slow to allow your team to engage if your team is lacking in engage tools or wants to chase. -Use Grenade in between autos when you can. You can't auto anyway, might as well weave in grenade so that you get the most damage off in the shortest amount of time. -Flowers are NOT useless. Flowers are really good protective tools if you put them in front of you in a teamfight, especially when combined with W for the root. In addition, sometimes in a teamfight its hard for the enemies to keep track of them, and they won't/can't dodge. Those things HURT because they're hard to hit. They have a 1.2 ad ratio vs champions. 1.2 ad ratio on any champion is insane, but on Jhin especially? absolutely nuts. -Flowers and a grenade can be used to waveclear/shove really quickly because you can use flowers to get the caster creeps low enough for Q bounces. There is also a way to place them and kite the entire wave on the flower, instead of just the melee or just the caster creeps.

Thanks for the advice, and especially for covering as much as you could! I'd probably bet that I've made the mistake with the 4th shot once or twice without noticing, I'll definitely have to keep my eye on it.

Nevertheless, I thank you once again and will try to put as much of this to use as I can!
