Ahri Changes

Ive been an Ahri main since end of season 3 when I started playing, she was the first 6300 that i bought and i absolutely love her as a champion. Please do not go through on these changes, her E is an integral part of her kit, that defines who she is as a champion. I love the reward of landing a good charm and seeing the benefit. Don't remove the 20% dmg increase on her e as it will make her boring and similiar to all other burst mages. Sorry this is a bit of a rant but it bugs me.

This is kinda weird. Ahri didn't have a damage amp on E for almost all of season 3. It showed up in the Halloween patch.

Also, I don't get how removing damage amp will make her similar to other burst mages.

I do get how change here feels uncomfortable, because combining no DFG with no E amp is going to be a really big change to Ahri playstyle.

well like i said end of season 3, so im not sure exactly what patch season 3 ended lol, but i started playing the game around then and really got into her as a champion, so ive only known the amp on her e, which seams like a really important part of her kit to me

Ahri originally had 20% more damage on her Q and no E buff

Blainezy5 votes

20% amp dmg from all spells is a lot more than just 20% more on a Q. Unless you mean that her Q provided the same 20% dmg amp the charm now does.

Kitsuki053 votes

I don't have all the exact numbers in front of me, but basically Ahri used to do a lot more damage with her spells, so she could just build tanky and still blow people up. E was still what defined Ahri, it was the first taunt that didn't actually force people to attack you. Then they nerfed all her damage gave her E the buff, then everyone raged and quit playing her because they felt like everything would depend on landing E.

Now people are used to having to land E for her damages, and they're changing so that she can do damage without it, meaning she'll get a lot of the pushing power that she was popular for before, and maybe some tankier items. The point is you still play her the same, so not that much is changing.

However, that extra damage on her Q is AoE, which is far more powerful in teamfights. Her E then can have more uses than just an initiation for her combo as people could use it like how they did before her initial rework.

I think Riot wanted Ahri to revert to how she was when people all bought her years ago where her Charm also had a mind-trick element to it since it didn't have to be the first ability used in her combo.

Look in the bright side, it could have become a Cassiopeia.

I will say I landed her charm in quite an interesting way yesterday. I charmed a J4 in mid leap of his ult and it canceled it and made it go on cool down. He was spamming all chat very mad lol

Addy the Cat8 votes

And now Ahri's q is going to do less damage while charmed, as well as her ult (but who uses that for damage amirite?). Her w and e got buffed, but I really don't think it's enough to make up for the loss at her q. The movement speed is nice, but meh. I don't know. I just really don't think this is a buff if they remove the damage amplification.

SavagePenetrator2 votes

I've never once thought to myself, wow ahri needs to move faster. Shes got three extra flashes. what does a move speed buff add to her kit? she can dodge skills already and her dmg doesnt need help being landed, like a viktor q auto

So... I am not an Ahri main. But I heard Riot say something about how they didn't want her to be a burst caster.

This is something, to me, that seems to stem from their recent crusade against "no counter-play" interaction, and I definitely consider burst mages to be part of that category. Under that context, does your opinion change at all? Do you think Ahri could be viable in a different way, perhaps with more mobility and sustained damage?

She's definitely going to be viable, but she just won't have the same burst as before. I'm sure people will still play and build her like an assassin, but she's going to be what she was meant to be: A mage, specifically a mage that can kite for days.

ModKnightsKemplar1 votes

But... is that a bad thing? Your first post seems to frame this in a negative light. Am I reading that wrong, or is there just something that I don't understand about it?

I think this sounds like a great, healthy change for Ahri. There are already plenty of burst mages.

I don't think it's a bad thing, I was just expecting something different when they mentioned Ahri buffs. I didn't think that by buffs they were going to shift her from an assassin to more of a mage, which isn't a buff, but at the same time it isn't a nerf. I probably seemed a little bitter because I liked playing her as a DFG assassin, and now I'm going to have to change some things up with how I build her/play her.

ModKnightsKemplar1 votes

Yeah, okay, I get that. I latched onto you because I wanted someone to rationally explain to me why this was such a bad change for her. I wasn't very hopeful the OP could do that (no offense OP, you just seem real worked up about it).

Seems like maybe it's just one of those, "I liked the old Ahri" situations. I can understand that.

The Sword Saint8 votes

I've always tended to play Ahri as the kiting mage that she was intended as, you know.... using the synergy of her foxfire and ryleis and getting multiple rotations off in a teamfight while being somewhat tankier ap items than a burst mage. Back when the damage amp was added to the charm all of the 'mage ahri' players got shouted down by the 'dfg assassin ahri's who had suddenly sprung up overnight after the build got popular in the LCS and told that 'we could still build her that way if we want but it would be worse since she's an assassin not a mage'.

I think it's only fair now for us kiting mage Ahri players to drink up the tears of the assassin Ahri's of the world, maybe now you know how we feel when Riot decided one day out of the blue that your way of playing the game isn't what they want to support right now. Funny thing is that both changes happened because of DFG - Riot didn't like people going DFG then getting kills with foxfire and ult without any skillshots so they tried to force people to land a charm by removing damage from her other spells and giving charm a damage amp, and now they're saying 'just fuck DFG in general' and were going back to the way it was before. Only now we're gonna have a speed boost on Q instead of a bit of extra damage which honestly I can live with.

TheRatsInTheWall4 votes

I'm sorry your play style got nerfed and forgotten. I played Assassin Ahri before the amp and am likely to continue doing so after they remove the amp. That said, the reward for landing the E is very satisfying. It would be a shame to see it go.

We could both be supported by an Ahri balanced around a 5-15% amp on E and the new speed boost.

PrinceArchie1 votes

Meh you sound a bit vindictive. I wasnt an OG Ahri main or anything but ironically I didnt religiously stick to DFG as well because I didn't feel it was necessary. Mage or Assassin it really makes no difference, charm thematically is a CC spell that "tempt"s enemy champions to their demise. This is a nerf in my opinion to Ahri's dueling potential and laning phase because she loses a fair amount of that power in exchange for added kiting mobility. This change will shift her towards being more of a team fighter/wave-clearer, a more mobile Xerath I suppose. Disappointing to say the least in my honest opinon, because against other pick and pop Assassins like Le blanc or Zed she's going to be having a tougher time dealing damage/ trading as effectively generally speaking.

5G8Nri0B542 votes

There's more to the E change. While it lost the damage amp, with the rebalancing of the rest of her kit, she no longer relies nearly as heavily on landing that E first before blowing her combo.

This gives Ahri players the power pre-rework Ahri used to have, in that they could kite around and inflict heavy AoE damage, and her E can be used offensively or defensively now that you aren't reliant on landing it first.

Makes it easier to deal with Fizz/Zed/Leblanc etc. too.

Krys Star4 votes

I'd rather they kept the current Charm now over the new one. Charm wasn't meant to be a damaging ability. It was meant to pull the enemy to their death. The set up. The kiss of death. Landing Charm and punishing the enemy for not dodging it, and seeing the punishment they received for it by 20% damage amp felt so rewarding and good. Riot wants skill and interaction with their champions, right? Well removing the damage amp just shaves off a bit of skill and interaction in her kit.

Edit: Also not to mention how much they upped the mana cost on Charm in exchange for making it a powerful and deadly trap.

SavagePenetrator1 votes

ya i think this is the perfect explanation, i like the kiss of death feel of it, and they even made it more of a "champion fantasy" or whatever they are calling it these days in the cinematic they made in the summer. i think they need to keep this part of her kit

I always prefered mage Ahri to assassin Ahri

more ahri disputes -_- nobody is happy with anything are they?

5G8Nri0B543 votes

It should be pointed out, TC, that your exact same argument was thrown when they turned Ahri into a full-blown Assassin during late Season 3. But with the popularity of DFG, Riot had no choice but to change her into a single-target assassin. I guess with it's removal they want to revert her to her original state. With the newer Ahri, she's less a single-target oriented Assassin, but she'll do considerably more damage in a teamfight as her AoE is getting buffed. In a way, you can call this Riot's attempt at a reversion. In a way, I suspect the original Ahri players are feeling a sense of vindication, especially when all the DFG Assassin Ahri's were acting so smug when Riot decided to gut AoE Mage Ahri to turn her into a single target assassin.

Look in the bright side, Ahri is still Ahri unlike...Cassiopeia

The damage amp on Charm was the most interesting part about her :/ But oh well.

The new value is strange too. Never seen an ability that doesn't scale equally through levels (Charm goes up 30 every level then 50 at max rank with these changes). Why not 60/95/130/165/200?

Blainezy2 votes

I'm not a big fan of this either. This completely kills her burst mage style that I have been accustomed to. Removing DFG is alright, but not if you are gonna nerf her too. They said they could buff her in more interesting ways now, yet all they did today in PBE was give her a 1 second movement speed buff for her Q and take off her charm amp. It's ridiculous.

SavagePenetrator2 votes

ya, she doesnt need a move speed buff. its so out of place and just a stupid idea in general. getting rid of dfg and charm is basically a 40% reduce in dmg which is probably the biggest single patch nerf ever in this game

Kitsuki052 votes

While it might seem like Riot is removing an interesting champion interaction, they're actually putting more skill into Ahri this way. Before it's just, land E receive kill, but now she's the mobility trickster champion she was always meant to be. Foxfire being stronger means you can do more damage when you bait people into moving close, and a speed buff is just always great on a mobility champ.

SavagePenetrator1 votes

dfg removal, 20% dmg reduction charm amp removal, another 20% dmg reduction. Shes going to be unplayable

Personally, I really like the idea behind the MS buff on Q, it brings her back around as a kiting mage. What concerns me, though, is the sheer amount of damage she is losing here. The current changes seem to be net balanced with each other. However, there's another factor in play here: the removal of dfg. Riot said ahri would get compensated for DFG's removal, but all I see are compensations for removal of the charm damage amp. Back in s3, they gutted her aoe damage so she could have the single-target E damage amp. Now that they're removing the amp and DFG, they could afford to be putting a lot more damage back into her kit, but they aren't.

Before 3.13, ahri's ult did 15 (+5% AP) more per hit than it does now. While it sounds small, over the course of three casts each hitting three targets, that amounts to 135 (+45% AP) total damage, though only 45 (+15%) per target. Assassin ahri doesn't really care for that damage since it's so spread out, but mage ahri does, and now that they're bringing back mage ahri, I think it's about time they revisit her ult damage. Either that or bump the ratio on foxfire to 45 or 50%, which would give her W single-target damage comparable to landing a charm+W on live, but considerably greater aoe damage. I feel at least one of these changes would be necessary to compensate for the massive loss of damage she'll be suffering here, and to ease her back into a mage playstyle after being an assassin for so long.

MrDrBudd1 votes

Just played her on the PBE and It is an nerf to her damage output despite the changes to W and the ratio on charm. the only "buff" is the movespeed boost imo. overall nerf tbh

Too bad everything on PBE is final, Riot never changed anything despite claiming too.

Too bad i bought Ahri a week ago >->

Sukishoo1 votes

Nothing on PBE is final... they constantly change everything that is on there.

Junkο1 votes

Just like the Cass changes everybody complained about? Or the Sona nerfs? Or everybody wanting Challenger Ahri renamed back to Dauntless?

The only thing they changed back from PBE recently were the Kennen QoL buffs that NOBODY NOTICED.

Sukishoo1 votes

They changed Cass over and over, and barely anyone is happy so they just left it alone.

Sona, was a change to make it better to lane against her, so they weren't changing that back.

Challenger was changed and kept the way it is for an obvious reason most people refuse to see.

Kennen was just something random they decided to try and then took it out.

You mean they decided to nerf her instead of buffing her?

Great now do this for Morgana and Thresh too, especially their Q hitboxes.

Challenger was changed and kept the way it is for an obvious reason most people refuse to see.

What reason? "Nobody knows what Dauntless is", does anybody even know what Asylum is? Does anybody below 18 years old know who Mad Hatter is? Neither of them make much sense either since the skins have nothing to do with them.

The only thing that hit PBE and got reverted were the Kennen changes and the Lee Sin nerfs that every pro decided to complain about. And cause LC$BIGPLAY$ Riot reverted it.

Sukishoo1 votes

No, it was because Challenger obviously suited what Riot wanted for the start of the season more.

5G8Nri0B541 votes

Yeaahh...how often does feedback ever affect PBE at all?

Sad to say, Feedbacks hardly means anything because 90% of the time, PBE changes are final.

Sukishoo1 votes

It has affected many things on the PBE... a lot of which are seen on the PBE Forums. Recently they were asked why Jinx's Firecracker skin doesn't have a tattoo, so they've now added a Dragon tattoo to it. Massive changes happened to things like the Wu Kong splash art, people hated that and they redrew the face, colored the hair darker and a lot of things.. They've done this kind of thing with a lot of the content that appears on there.

They listen and do what they can... so not everything is final. A lot of things are though, as they get so much feedback, the changes happen, and people still aren't satisfied so they leave it.

Erockandroll1 votes

Honestly I hope they don't go though with the removing the Damage Amp. I know that riot wanted to focused on her mager aspects. But removing the Damage amp, on top of the Removal of DFG, removes all possibility of her being an assassin. I actually like the Hybridization that ahri had.

Just Jangle1 votes

I agree, delete Ahri.
