Is Reworkes Pantheon's E a good idea?

UniSect··17 votes·9,206 views

The ability to 100% block everything, move, do consistent damage is pretty much all pros that the other abilities dont have. His only Con is that he can be hit any other direction. In my opinion, it is like a better version of all blockable abilities (Yasuo W, Fiora W, Irelia W).

Is this the best idea?

I just made a thread about it, a few minutes ago: https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/t4ZHsO20-new-pantheon-riot-why-the-damage-immunity-on-his-new-e

Imho, I think the fact that his new E can also block all turret damage is a bit OP.

His old passive could do that. It looks like his E only last about 1-2 seconds. And he's really slow. I'm sure if they're smart they'll turn around and E to block a tower shot after a tower dive. But, until we see numbers and cooldowns, I'm not too worried.

Cräfty6 votes

Remember, the old pantheon could only block turret shots or AA (or any spell that behaves like an AA. ex: Ez's Q or GP's Q). He couldn't block both at the same time. The best he could do is utilizing his spells and AAs to recharge his passive in quick succession to block 1 or 2 more AA/turret shot. With this playstyle, he was an oppressive enough champion to play against.

Now, he can block EVERYTHING, including turret damage, at the press of a button, at the same time! You see how overloaded this is?! Do you understand my concern now?

Also, you can see the numbers and cooldown if you watch any video about his rework. Redmercy, for example!

Yeah, from one direction though. If he could turn around while using his E, I'd be more concerned.

I don't think he can block turret dmg anymore, I'm prett sure. He can only block dmg from ONE direction (just walk around him lol) and only for himself. Compare that to fiora or Xin, or Yassuo or Braum or even Irelia for example. It's not a gamebreaking mechanic it already exist similar echanics in the game.

Edit: and u r missusing the term overloaded. OP or broken would be a better word in that case (but it isn't tho).

I can tell you he still does. Just watch Redmercy's video on Youtube, for example, and see for yourself. He even purposefully walked to the mid inhib turret, with no minions to back him up, activated E, and he took zero damage from it.

Does he need to win the game for my info to be relevant or something?!

Just tried on pbe. Yes, it actually blocks turret dmg. Pretty cool actually. That's gnna be interesting, but it's more balanced then akalis old new shroud. Probably not gonna be a gamebreaker. He already had the turret shot dodge on his passive

Its really not. His previous passive gave him 3 turret shot blocks when used properly. This is the same, but ties it to a lengthy CD that lowers his DPS considerably.

Cräfty1 votes

Yeah but don't forget that, now, he can negate ALL damage from ALL sources at the same time!

Before, even if he could block 3 turrets shots, that's it! That's all he could do at the time. He either blocked the turret shots and got damaged by AAs and spells, or he blocked AAs and took damage from turrets and spells. And that was pretty good on its own and it was a huge part of why he was so oppressive in lane.

NOW, he can block turret damage AND AAs AND spells, including True damage! Yes, there is a directional limitation included (only blocks damage from the direction he's facing) but still, being able to be immune to all sources of damage for 1.5 sec (increased to 2.5 sec if empowered by new passive), on a such overall short CD (20-ish sec), is pretty OP, imho.

Like, besides Fiora, who has a 0.75 sec CC an debuff immunity with her W, Pantheon is the only other champion that will have an immunity on a non-ultimate ability. Better yet, He's gonna have the longest immunity spell, for a non-ultimate ability, of all the champs, which is crazy!

And I'm sure the directional limitation of it will be easily bypassed if Pantheon mains figure out how to play him correctly, so... yeah!

Thats not really an issue. Again, it lowers his DPS, only works in one direction, and reduces movespeed when moving not the direction he is facing.

It also has a high enough CD that he can really only use it once.

But only from ONE direction... I really don't understand this panic. I have played him and against him and it doesn't feel broken. It's just a different version of Yasuos Windwall. It stops all dmg, while Yasuo can't block non-projectiles but Yasuo can defend his whole team instead. Also, Yasuo can block pretty much all ranged cc since they are mostly skillshots, while Pantheon can still get cced and locked down. It's actually a pretty big weakness compared to Windwall.

I honestly consider Windwall on the same level as Pantheons E. Windwall have higher skill ceiling and Pantheons have a lower skill floor. Blocking turret dmg is strong, but he could do that before too when diving people for example. Why do people suddenly go crazy when they didn't panic over similar mechanics before?

There has been desire to play AD braum top for a while, now you can be AD braum top without trolling

Holy shit

He has other support mechanics too!

Q is kinda like pyke

W is just a stun

E is braum shield with damage

Passive is kinda sona

Ult is just panth Ult

UniSect1 votes

Q is more of Varus. W is like TF yellow card, E is a better version of Yasuo's, Irelia's, Fiora's W and Braum E, Passive is more of Renekton and Ult is like Galio without the CC.

AnythingSupports1 votes

W is like Jax q + Renekton fury W if he has it empowered

ModAcademy Kayn3 votes

Better than other peoples except, shorter than Yasuo's, can still be CC'd, doesn't look like it blocks projectiles in their entirety, is a defense tool that actively hinders him if he tries to run away while blocking, can be circumvented by just moving to his side and probably something else I've missed.

5050BS1 votes

WW is a great counter to Panth's E.

Q(hold) leaps behind him and now you get all your damage (even the Q damage I believe hits)

Wolfeur2 votes

Yasuo can reposition to protect himself from potentially every direction, and it blocks ALL projectiles, even targeted one that should hit allies. Fiora's W block CCs and damage from any direction and potentially stun. Irelia's W is really not on the same level, I don't see why it's compared to Pantheon's.

UniSect1 votes

Their abilities are all blocking/nullifying abilities and majorly the only blocking abilities. I shouldve probably brought Braum up too.

But Yasuo reposition is more of just dueling, hard to focus around windfall in a team fight. And you have to be pretty dumb if you allow Fiora to stun you. And Irelia and Braum are just on the list of blocking damage.

Wolfeur1 votes

If you bring up % damage reduction, like for Irelia, then don't forget Alistar, Galio, Garen, Malzahar, MasterYi, Warwick

Now let's see about potential invulnerability/untargetability: Braum Bard Camille Ekko Elise Evelynn Fiora Fizz Kalista (for ally) Kayle Kindred Kled Lissandra Maokai MasterYi Ryze Shaco TahmKench (for ally)Taric Tryndamere Vladimir Xayah XinZhao Yuumi

Also, spell shields Nocturne Sivir

WoonStruck1 votes

How is it a better version of Fiora's W outside of lasting longer (which is better for her anyway)?

Hers is better in literally every dimension outside of dps/mobility. Keep in mind mobility is not a strong-suit of the ability and Fiora has enough mobility to nullify that aspect anyway.

UniSect1 votes

Fiora can be a counter CC but unless you're braindead, you probably cant be hit by it. So it's just a parry. It's in a way like a lesser limit of zhonas.

Phieldworker1 votes

We will have to see how it’s used. I don’t think he can cancel his e so people can flank him or cc him out off it from what I saw on pbe playing it.

I could definitely see them changing it to a damage reduction instead though. Either way I don’t think he’ll be unstoppable. He’ll probably play very similar to current panth he’ll just have more decision making.

Snowbrand1 votes

It doesn't block 100 %, only fro one direction. It's not even something new lol. Like xin ult can do that against range, fiora stops all dmg from all directions but for much shorter time, Braum's shield is similar too so it's nothing new and Yasuo can stop pretty much all dg fro range for his whole team, Pantheon only do it for himself. It's not even gonna be close to breake the game so dw

UniSect1 votes

I seen him go against Brand, abilities that just pop up can be blocked too. Brand W, Xerath W, Lux E, ect can all be blocked. Maybe only physical abilities can damage him from behind. But things popping from ground or sky still cant damage him.

Yea, I don't know how it's supposed to work in those cases. I would guess the center of the hitbox have to be behind pantheons hitbox or something like that. I played with it and it didn't seem that broken. It's strong, but not broken. Likke I said, there already existed champions with similar mechanics before and Pantheon could even block turrets before too so I don't see why it should be a big deal

5050BS1 votes

It is based on the location of who is doing the damage. If they are on the block side of the shield no damage will hit Panth no matter "Where" it is coming from.

Yea, makes sense

Hi im 121 votes

i think if you give pantheon fiora's w on his E he would be completely fucking broken, people seem to be forgetting that fioras W also chunks the fuck out of your dps in a 1v1 even if she doesn't block shit with it.

Ralanr2 votes

Fiora’s parry also redirects hard CC to where she’s pointing.

Pantheon’s E blocks damage, but not CC.

AnythingSupports1 votes

It blocks everything in front of him, in team fights if he puts it up just flank him Shaco Khazix Fiora Irelia and champs that can kite in general are pretty good against him

And he can already absorb tower shots passively so no at least it has a cool down rather than being determined by attack speed and ability usage

LeechyLoL1 votes

I think that while blocking turret damage is a bit overpowered, the damage that it provides is low enough to not make the ability broken but just make it good. Considering that by the time new Panth hits live, they will have most likely nerfed his Q damage, I think that all around he will fit the gladiator model that Riot was going for while not breaking the meta completely.

Reksee1 votes

If it can't be turned off early then this might be less of a problem, seeing as it would leave him vulnerable from behind. But yeah, it does seem a tad concerning.

imagine if he needed full stacks for his passive to activate it.

I imagine that being a world where its probably fairly balanced(even if you could do it twice back to back)

Imagine a world where you knew what you were talking about.

Btw, panth on live can block 3 tower shots in a row without AS/CDR. With AS and CDR, panth has a 100% uptime on turret immunity.

i do know what im talking about fam. instead of his passive being a "block an auto or tower shot" is gives him access to casting his E, or at least making his E like it is on live, but if he has full stacks of passive he gets the new E.

cuz right now you can stack up passive, block an attack, then press w, and block another attack

5050BS1 votes

So Live version of Panth he can block any auto/turret with his passive. That can be up very fast (if he builds AS or CDR) He can be built to take Turrets solo and never get hit by a turret shot.

Rework he can block 1-2 turret shots (one if E is not empowered, two if it is) This is on a 22/20.5/19/17.5/16s Cooldown

That is a HUGE up time decrease from live. MASSIVE.

So it has to do MORE to be about the same.

Before it blocked no matter what. Rework it blocks ONLY if you are on the blocking side.

WW is a good counter to Panth because he can Q(hold) and get on the other side of him.

IMO Riot actually did a very good Job with this Rework. More skill expression but still has everything that he had with ways to counter.

Q now takes more skill (skill shot) but does more damage if you land it. W still Point and click, empowered gives expression E does less damage (by quite a bit) gives the Passive block but gives counter and skill expression. R Basically the same but bit more uses (ie Skill Expression)

Pika Fox1 votes

It will be fine. His old passive was just as broken. Now it requires skill expression.
