She is not an assassin. She is immobile mage. She has no escapes. She trades safety for damage.

except that annie has range, where assassins dont. range gives her safety and reliability. in lane it means she doesnt have to run up to a minion and put herself close to her opponent to cs. in teamfights she has larger freedom of positioning while unloading her burst and doesnt have to sit on top of her target in reach of the enemy tank or support.

assassin mobility is the tradeoff for being melee ranged. why do people tend to forget that auto attack and spell range is a huge fucking deal? its not just slapped onto these champions for flavour.

why do you think yasuo has so much mobility in his kit? because he is a carry who doesnt have ranged auto attacks like marksmen, and high mobility is his mechanism to constantly reposition to be able to carry.

op has a good point.

Very sure we have more then one 'melee AD carry' type champion that exists at the moment, such as Fiora who just like Yasuo (IS A FIGHTER/ASSASSIN), yet doesnt have as much ridiculous utility for defensive measures, except her vital system whenever she hits a target's vital side, lets her gain move speed, heal slightly, in addition to other things, and her Riptose counter which is a .75 second window to negate damage and stun the first enemy champion she hits with riptose if she was hit by CC during it (which she would negate it), very least such a move ain't as directionally and team fight powerful and has some 'heavy' requirements for the stun to trip on a enemy champion).

Even if Fiora can self gain short burst of move speed by vital strikes and can even Q lunge at targets and gain a 60% reduction on the cooldown when she strikes a target, it still isn't as powerful in mobility, nor does she have a 'long range gag' like how Yasuo does with his Tornado that can freely let him set up his ultimate massacre and easily finish it. Fiora on the other hand for her ultimate requires her to make proper use of dancing around the target to hit all the marks (making especially good use of the Q lunge to gain the move speed and proc multiple stacks for the major damage bonus) or even the slow on her E to grant her the movement gap to finish it.

If a 'Assassin' or Assassin sub type champion is suppose to suffer from range issues, then Yasuo already negates that with statikk shiv auto crit spamming in laning matches and his tornado which has a long travel distance which from what i can tell based on how far it goes, is 'pretty far' for an 'Assassin'. Plus once again, he is literally one of the few fighter or Assassin (unless someone else wants to point one out that eats up Critical hit power strongly) champions who builds Critical hit intentionally because his kit soaks up what it brings insanely strong(since most fighters and assassins would opp for AD and penetration items and only build things like phantom dancer for its % movement speed bonus or attack speed to let them out trade, chase or escape much easier in fights).

NEVER use Yasuo to justify facts, unless its how a overloaded utility kit makes the stat 'weakness' on a champion effectively moot and he still destroys champions in mid lane, he works in top lane except against champions with the kits that can counter his kit and most mid lane champions are ones who can't match well against yasuo because his passive makes it hard for single shot pokes(and combo poking will get screwed since he'll just dash out of the way after wind shield took the first one and laning phase is not a good time to burn mana for combo rolling out if you don't build mana or measures to recover mana back), he can disrupt flash trade in with his wind wall to disengage him or if say a Volibear or Swain manages to throw him, he can then just E 'them' to run back under the turret thanks to the dash distance the E provides.

[zombie-brand-facepalm]

Lets not even mention the fact that 'Tank' Yasuo lets him pretty much do the same, completely ignore his double crit PASSIVE and lets him be even more hard to kill with the combination of 'mobility' and beefie'ness that just turns a fight just as hopeless, when Tank Ekko first appeared and the nerf adjustments weren't in place yet for Ekko. Plus can still destroy you with his kit, due to those utilities that he is still using.

yasuos tornado is nowhere near comparable to ranged auto attacks on a .5 second cooldown, are you kidding me? the travel time alone allows you to walk out of range of the ability. neither is his 400 range skillshot q.

yes, i bring up yasuo as an example of an adc who gets mobility instead of auto attack range to be able to carry, so you realize what is actually necessary for a melee champ to keep up with ranged auto attacks and abilities.

and stattic shiv isnt a fucking argument aswell. that item is available to marksmen as it is to melee adc.

and fiora is actually far more mobile than even yasuo. she can use her mobility tool much more unestricted on top of having movement speed bonuses in her kit.

The thing is, if assassins killing you in no time is "unhealthy" or frustrating, how about (burst) mages? They are ranged and have cc while assassins have mobility, but their burst is pretty much the same.

A good deal of 'burst' mages have to skill shot or have to set up things to do such maneuvers but they can easily be ruined by Magic Resist building, Shields, etc. Not many mages i recall have the ability to use one ability and instantly one shot a target, (Annie has to usually get 4 stacks for stun proc to use tibbers bomb and then throw in a Q and if she is close enough, a W for extra measure. Which is at least give an indication you should keep your distance or be ready to time any defensive measure you have to mitigate the damage if she flashes on you, Karma has to empower her blast field first, Lux usually has to Root you with Q first to get enough of a window for E or even to have R even hit a enemy, Morganna needs to Q you to then screw you with her damage field, etc.).

Problem with a good deal of Assassins is when they ham you, they can usually do it instantly or secretly (Le blanc burst for the former and Twitch stealth in for the latter) to utterly ruin you if you had no 'notice' to react to against them blasting you. Just like any 'standard' Assassin going after some'one, they aren't running up to you or charging a laser, they have to be sneaky when they are going to strike you and it usually can end up with the one being 'attacked' usually the opportunity to retaliate such as grabbing a nearby weapon to fight back. Unlike someone wheeling a catapult to a nearby mountain and then launching a massive bomb straight on top of your house and making it explode... :/

Assassins should only be able to burst you i they get the surprise on ya, if they don't then they should have a dis'advantage in a fight.

all of these agruments can be brought up for assassins. shields fuck them over, exhaust fucks them over, heals fucks them over, health stacking is effective against them.

are you really that ignorant about how much of an advantage auto attack and spell range is?

why do you think yasuos kit is so loaded? because he has 2 abilities, his q and his e alone dedicated to make up for the disadvantage of being melee, vs. marksmen who have ranged auto attacks to work with.

and that doesnt even give him his own actual kit yet. thats why he additionally to the whirlwind effect on his q, has 2 passives and his windwall is so strong. because he has the same power budget a marksman would have in his entire kit almost entirely in his w, his r, and his passive.

with her shield and her current build. she can survive a punch. also zhonyas. if you catch her off she can nuke your back line with her instant point and click tibbers.

annie can aoe stun engage teamfights. show me an assassin who can do that.

youre just listing different parts of champions kits, without actual comparison.

In my opinion, Annie is not an assassin but rather a counter to all-in champions. You want to jump into her face and kill her? She's going to punish you for that. You want to kill her? Poke her down from afar. Make her scared to be close to you. Long range poke is her main counter as she will punish people who have to get close to her.

Assassins have tools that enable them to facilitate killing their target such as gap closers and ya know lots of burst damage.

Annie is a burst mage but nothing really like an assassin. She has no gap closer and two of her spells are shorter than her auto attack range. She only becomes a serious threat when her stun is up which requires 4 stacks and is blatantly obvious when it is available. When she's fed she can burst you, but when late game comes her damage falls off a bit.

There are several items you could build in response to her which are item 3139 and item 3102 which negate her CC and that's what makes her strong overall. Having an ally build item 3105 into item 3190 helps a lot too. If your team is really struggling item 3222 is a good item for removing CC on allies provided you have the reflexes to use it properly.

Also for someone short range like Annie she has no gap closer and in order to force a teamfight generally has to burn her summoner 4 to land her stun.
