Limited team chat as a punishment...? Really...?

OfGloriousLife··1 votes·820 views

Someone on my team mentioned that he could only type a message to us every four minutes.

...

Seriously?

That...sort of punishes the whole team. This is a team game that relies pretty much 100% on communication. How this makes any sense regarding BETTER community behavior is beyond me. Our team couldn't function properly.

Please get rid of this.

Please.

Ban people. don't do this. This screws up games.

The thing is, to get chat restricted, most of what you say is not helpful to your team. It's just bashing them for fucking up. Making chat a limited resource means that if you bash your team, you're not going to be able to help them win. You'll hopefully choose to help your team over being toxic, and over time not being toxic could become a habit.

If you can only make limited messages, you are likely to use them wisely for improving the game (giving directions, discussing strategy, etc.) and not for being an asshole. Those who choose to be an asshole with it clearly didn't learn their lesson and will be restricted even further.

Banning people immediately is simply too harsh. Most people deserve an opportunity to improve before slamming them with the maximum penalty.

the idea is that your negative attitude will impact the team in a much more detrimental way than if you were to just be restricted.

I know.

But that's just not the case. Someone being toxic can at least provide useful information -- if not in a negative way.

Not being able to communicate with the team at all is an infinitely more useless circumstance.

I don't know how Riot didn't realize this.

Sorry no.

There is no discussion worth typing that will help the team. It's time wasting and is not productive. Smart pings is enough for communication.

99% of all things typed in chat are irrelevant to the match.

There's no ping for "let's group."

So...you're just wrong.

The chat matters.

A lot.

Yes there is. Ping a turret. Ping a lane. Ping assist me on a lane or turret. These simply implies, let's take it down.

The only chat you really need, which is why I said 99% of all things type is irrelevant, is "warded" and "ward here" or just "ward".

actually, i can tell you as a person who got a couple of chat restrictions for like ~40 games total, i rarely insult people in game (sometimes i do when i'm really in a bad mood) but i do like to troll them in lobby, usually in a harmless way (i actually care of them for the duration of the match but.... well it's just too boring not to troll them first), that's how i got my restrictions... chat restriction didn't stop me from it :3 but it hurt the team communication, not much but still. also it actually don't stop in-game bashing that much
