I don't understand how this is fair...

Played a ranked match with two never-connects. Ended quicker than 20 (we just let them push and win after being down ten kills), but the game still deducts LP from us.

...

Why? We didn't anything wrong, and it wasn't our fault that the game was swayed so heavily -- and unfairly -- in the other team's favor. Yes, I already know all of the common excuses why they don't do it ("You can't tell if it's legit internet problem"), but who, in their right mind, would duo-queue and have their partner never connect? What purpose would that serve other than to just waste time? It's not manipulating the system in any advantageous way. Even so...that's still not our fault.

I know Riot has taken steps to lean more toward a reward system, but these little things still feel like the game is more inclined to give you a middle finger for things you didn't do and have no control over.

I'm a decent enough player and have good internet...I shouldn't be punished for others who are/have the exact opposite.

Something should be different. Anything. Just not this. I'm tired of it.

Hard to work with; if you don't punish the people who played the game, then a player might be motivated to disconnect in a desperate attempt to save LP for his teammates.

On the other hand, punishing them for something out of their control is equally bad.

But there's no middle ground. If you try and reduce the LP lost by non-afk members, then there's the same issue as my first point. If you make the AFKer the only one to receive a punishment, people will cry about how their internet causes demotion and same issue again as the first.

It's a very tricky subject to resolve.

Well, really, I'm not talking about punishing anyone, just saving those who've done no wrong.

And also, I mean never-connects specifically. Not people who disconnect mid-game.

Never connects are so bad. I think if someone is inactive for the first five minutes, the game should end. Maybe give out scraps of IP for saying "sorry for the waste of time", and just leave the never connect out of it.

This would be nice, but all I feel is that this would replace dodging. I think the main reason the harsher punishment came out was because dodging was such a huge issue awhile ago, when there was no punishment besides a longer queue time. If the person doesn't like his team comp and/or the enemy team comp counters theirs or has OPs, then all someone has to do is never connect and the game never "existed". It isn't fair to the other 5 people who picked their champions well.

The system sucks, but its what we are dealt with. Just know that your loss isn't your fault, which means something I hope. While I don't like the current "punishments" for it, I feel it is probably the best there can be atm. Your best bet is to probably come up with another more realistic way for RIOT to monitor the games so that its reasonable.

They could easily do like they do in DotA 2: One member of a premade gets a leave, everyone on the premade gets a leave. Simple as that.

People don't exploit this in Dota2 afaik

I don't get how it's a tricky subject. People never connected, multiple people, make the game a loss forgiven/normal match with an early out (second half not needed, but would be nice).

Flag the people the never connected.

From there, if the people who never connect do it frequent enough, start making them lose LP or ban them from ranked, if this hurts their feelings because now they cannot play ranked/troll/save their team from a bad matchup, guess they should either improve their internet, not troll, or learn to play the game the correct way.

It's an entirely different subject with leavers, and that should be resolved with reporting, investigation, and removal of ranked privileges for people who do it often enough where it's not people who literally had a bad day and rage quit because (I do look down on this still, and I still report it).

If the difficulty comes from flagging people who cannot connect to a game, then ignore my post.

Why are afkers always in ranked games and not normal games. In my provisional games 4 out of 10 games had afkers who never connect. Throughout a whole year of normals, only 1 game had an afker.

I get AFK's almost every other game at this point in Normals. And you can tell you will have people with connection issues by their painfully slow load.

I was one game away from receiving promos then we have a noct that afks at level 2 and i lose 20 LP. WTF?

It's one game. Play the next one and earn it back.

We act like this is something we deal with or "THE END OF RANKED PLAY AS WE KNOW IT!!!1!" When in reality all we have to do is implement what DOTA2 does. If someone doesn't connect within 5 minutes, the game isn't scored and the game becomes safe to leave. If someone leaves, the game becomes safe to leave, but the game is still scored. The leavers will still be severely punished, but it doesn't punish everyone else either.

The person that disconnects should get double or maybe even triple the LP hit, and everyone else on the team should get lose no LP, or, maybe only a small amount.

No one will d/c and take a 3 game loss worth of LP on purpose, just to save 4 other people they don't know, and now everyone else in the game wont get screwed over from someone disconnecting (it sure seems to happen to teams i am on a LOT).

I'm not really for punishment (unless it's for douchey behavior). I just don't want punishment for those who don't deserve it.

People don't deserve to lose LP when others have such a crappy connection that they never connect. :/

I was silver last season, and i went 4-6 in my placements this season, i got bronze 4. wtf? there are other ways the ranked system is broken too..

I think the new system isn't that great. I was in an ARAM last night when AT&T decided to do maintenance at 1:30 am. Was finally able to log back in this afternoon to a warning that was requiring me to type that "I agree" to not leave any future matches. I couldn't help it, I'm sure there are tons of other people that encounter the same issues. The new system is a joke. And for those who are saying "get better internet", my internet is actually pretty great, but I can't do anything about the times when the provider decides to shut down certain zones for the entire night because they made a boo boo.

Life's a bitch and then ya die, that's why we get high cuz u never know when u gonna goooo...

Look at the big picture. The same thing is going to happen to the enemy team, resulting in free LP for you. It balances out and then some, assuming you always connect. Sure, Riot could change it, which would result in imaginary inflation because eventually everyone has to normalize into their elo based on the curve... but I don't really see why.
