Reworked Honor system: Honor as a currency

Before you comment the same stuff again....: .....like " oh, it might be abused" think about how many things are abused in the game that you might not know about. How about rewarding good players instead of punishing and taking away everywhere you can, because you fear something might get used against the terms. If you give good grade to a child, it's more likely he tries to perform well again. Every other famous MMO abuse problems, but that doesn't mean they won't ad rewards, because of cheaters.

Honor is an unseen pokemon today. You rarely see anyone who gets reward from it and it only stacks up for nothing. Making honor worth something other than the hope for bandages would encourage good behavior and impressive plays.

**UPDATE: ** Delete honor giving from custom games. So the enemy team will be random every time you play for honor.

Selling items for honor, like: 25 honor - minor IP or XP boost 70 - medium boost 150 - large boost 250 - summoner icon ( the look would depend on the type of the honor spent) 500 - skins

This might seem OP, but think about how many good games you need to get this amount. There should be multiple choices for multiple roles to fit everyones likeing.

**Friendly and Fairplay honor: ** Summoner icon: white dove icon, hearth icon with team logo, Hugging poro buddies > Skins:

  • support: charming Braum, poro keeper Bard, Noble Lady Janna
  • Jungle: charming Udyr, Gentleman Jarvan, Noble Lady Diana
  • ADC: Gentleman Graves, Charming Lucian, Lovely Miss fortune
  • Top: Lovely Riven, Baker Pantheon(yes pls make it real), Charming Trudle Mid: Lovely Lux, Gentleman Twisted Fate, Charming Vladimir

Teamwork: Summoner icon: ok hand sign, 5 small poro side by side, handholding

> Skins: Support: Evil strategist Morgana, Wise leader Zilean, Heroic Lulu Jungle: Evil huntress Evelynn, Wise roamer Mester Yi, Heroic Vi Adc: Evil soldier Draven, Top secret agent Caitlyn, Heroic Vayne Mid: Evil High Mistress Leblanc, Top secret agent Syndra, Heroic Lux Top: Evil Guardian Galio, Wise leader Shen, Heroic Olaf

If you beg or threat for honor, you get the opposite outcome, anyway. Getting honor depends on your skills, helpfullness, matureity and your teammates feelings.

The room for abuse discourages me from agreeing with this idea, unfortunately. Encouragement to honor those who deserve it could be useful, but this only encourages people to beg for it or trade favors for it.

The comments regarding honor have disappointed me. I've read comments like, 'I never give honor' and 'I rarely ever give honor and only to people who perform above and beyond'. The honor button is basically a glorified thumbs up button. What does it really cost you to make someone's day just a little better by letting them know you enjoyed their time, effort, and company?

the honor system should be changed into MvP. in end game lobby, you asked to choose 2 MvP, one from ally team (excluding yourself), one from enemy team. And then 2 players that chosen by majority will get a special currency. And the rest follow your idea.

this will make it's less abuse-able and make MvP/honor more meaningful.

This is the smartest post of the century. Riot needs to hire the OP. Honors right now mean absolutely nothing. You could get honors every game for 100 games, get one report and get banned nowadays. Its getting ridiculous. They should definitely consider this option.

alfavhunter12/22/2015, 11:35:26 PM2 votes

I would say make it an invisible currency

At 25 honor you will get a notice of recognition and a 1 win IP/ExP bonus

At 1000 honor you would get 1 honor token and an icon based on what honor you used, the token would be used to buy unique honor based skin for one champion (every champion would have one skin made for them based on the honor system, if it's not made for the champ you want yet you can hold onto the token but you have the icon)

Make it state why you got it, but don't just open a store for it as it will more openly encourage honor trading

And when people ask how you got the unique skin or icon, you can state, riot gave it to me for "teamwork/helpful/honor opponent, exc"

I see this as a abusive thing. People Will team up together as 5 people in normal, and just go into games. Afk or feed, and honor themselves. Pretty ez to abuse. They will keep on doing this till they receive the x amount of honors.

Honor system is not well-designed (like many other systems), that's why I don't like it. 600 ranked game, almost no honor. 20 normals, instant ribbon.

Are you asking Riot to not try to make money every chance they can?! BLASPHEMY!!! Champions already come free for IP, so why would you ask for anything more?! D:

In all seriousness though, while I do like the idea and agree that perhaps some form of reward should be given to good players, this would be abused to the max. Honestly though, I wouldn't mind seeing ribbons again. Those were simple, nice, fun, and encouraged good behavior.

Plus, let's all be honest here, no one honors anyone now'a days even if they deserve it.

Better ban toxic kids than honor good players - Riot logic.

I think this is an interesting idea, but the skin idea is a LOT of work purely for a reward system.

No

Honor is a failed system for 99.99% of the community and a minor prop for the rest to push people who are already normally friendly and kind to share it more openly and be rewarded.

I've seen maybe 5 honor ribbon's this season.

All five TRULY DESERVED those Ribbon's.

I can't remember what those people were playing, what role, what champions, but it is not the champion or the role that makes someone a good member of the community worthy of recognition, it's their attitude and that towards others.

I'm a neutral player. Sometimes I have those bad games, but typically I rarely type besides basic's (mia, timers, gj). Honor system will one day be phased out I'd bet, like the tribunal, due to it's many flaws, but don't perverse it in the meantime.

Saianna12/22/2015, 4:15:15 PM1 votes

I've scrolled without reading (sorry, I'm the guy who invented laziness) and stopped at part where you could "buy skin for 500 honours".

Just wanted to say: Riot will never implement anything that'd allow a player to get free skins.

Some event? Sure Promoting LoL? Sure Skins for ingame currency obtainable for all without spending money? No

That's how they work. Can't blame them, even though I believe their policies are outdated by at least 15 years.

Zerolera12/22/2015, 4:40:09 PM1 votes

I would say fine - but restrict the amount of times someone can give honor. Like you earn honor per game you play (kind of like the rerolls in ARAM) and also don't allow honor to be given to those who queue up together and I think you could have a good system there.

Weathered12/22/2015, 7:53:50 PM1 votes

I mainly honor whenever Im having a bad day and get carried xD

Carpe Victoria12/22/2015, 7:58:10 PM1 votes

I like the idea but there HAS GOT to be a way of stopping farming abuse and disincentivizing every person in every game to beg in chat for honor. I already go crazy when my game has some idiot begging nonstop for honor or skins or to watch their stream. Shut up!!

Only way i see this working is if you do something like a daily cap on honor (to stop begging) and perhaps you can only get honored by each specific account once per month or something (stop farming).

Occams Raiser12/22/2015, 9:21:34 PM1 votes

I don't think you understand the psychological underpinnings of the system. Its supposed to be worthless on their side and worth while on yours. It is there to make you play well and more like all the other things they do. Once you understand that everything is a gimmick you come to understand why honor system will never be more than cosmetic.

I once propose a special server for those with the highest honor. Everyone told me that was the same as making everyone elses sever prisoner island. In this community there is no difference between the carrot and the stick.

MunchCrunchLunch12/22/2015, 10:04:30 PM1 votes

yeah they won't do that. they'd rather have you pay real money for all that. its the "employee of the month award" with no award other than the little thing that says you got the award.

Calabok12/22/2015, 10:06:05 PM1 votes

Abuseable by groups collaborative cheating

Shahamut12/22/2015, 11:24:43 PM1 votes

Make it to where you can only be awarded honor by your opponents in non custom games. Earn honor from opponents, that should get you something. Honor from teammates could be easily garnished via friends. AKA it wouldnt mean anything.

If you have stuff for honor that is only garnished from "honorable opponent" votes in non-custom games, you cant abuse it (not easily or consistently anyway).

SpecterVonBaren12/23/2015, 1:57:54 AM1 votes

I do think they should make it so honor is more visible to you. Right now you can see how much honor you have but it's several tiny little icons in your profile page in dull silver that you barely ever look at. I think rather than make honor worth more or anything, they should make it so the honor you get, maybe even the reports you get, are in defined colors and in a place specifically meant for them.

Have it so you can see how much honor and reports you've had over your entire time of playing the game but also within the last week or month. Have it so report information comes in randomly within like... 8 games so people can't immediately guess who reported them and harass them. But if they made honor and reports more visible to the person getting them then it would be less like a tacked on system and more of something that a person can look at every once and a while and, if they're a decent kind of person, think about how they've been acting in their games and maybe try to do better. It could make people ask themselves, "Have I been as nice to other people as I could be?" or "Am I being toxic to other people? Maybe I should stop playing for a while and cool off."

The issue with honor, in my opinion, is just that it only ever shows up in two ways, either for people that have somehow managed to get a ribbon or as a passing thought after a game when you see the notification that you got some honor. Make it so it's more visual and visible to people and it would probably start having more of an effect.

Sounds like a reallu good idea. But as mentioned, the abuse or "stat padding" would make it hard to work.

I agree with the currency part![slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Biffolo12/23/2015, 8:08:58 AM1 votes

This would get me to go out of my way to be nice, so I guess that's the goal right?

Changsty12/22/2015, 4:21:59 AM1 votes

I think this is a good direction, although one caveat would be that it might encourage "honour trades" which would defeat the whole purpose of the system. Perhaps a compulsory team vote on "Friendliest teammate" or something with an option for no vote.

AL00012/22/2015, 6:44:37 AM1 votes

good idea but it could be abused by friends or whoever...

sorry bub...

ps. i am okay if only unknown enemy honors you...

Trundle Bundle12/22/2015, 6:54:33 AM1 votes

Skins are a major stretch on this, even if they'd take a long time to get (perhaps especially if they'd take a long time to get). However, the boosts at the very least don't seem like a bad idea, albeit one with diminishing returns. There are three major problems with the honor system as it stands, without looking at honor ribbons at all; first, we don't see honor popups until after we close out of the end game chat. If we saw the pop ups (still anonymous) in real time, it would remind people the system is there to use and gently reinforce use of it for community reasons alone. Once you see someone honor you, it's a bit more contagious out of good will alone. Not being told directly who honored you is good though, preventing it from being a simple trade.

Second, there's a rush to leave the end game chat anyway, and once you do you can't go back. There often isn't much of a reason to stick around, but there's plenty enough reason to start the next queue right away, nearly coming down to muscle memory a lot of the time. If there was an option to honor (and honestly to report) for the previous game during your next queue, it would streamline things and make for a better process.

Third, although more minor, the multiple categories for teammate honors seem pointless. In the case of ribbons, it's not supposed to water things down much, but quite frankly the options seem forced and make the system itself seem frivolous. It also still seems like your vote may not matter as much depending on what other people think. That's not particularly good motivation to honor people.

PickleBabah12/22/2015, 7:10:58 AM1 votes

I think that pre-mades can only honour each other every 5 or so games so that premades can't just farm. Also, make it so that you require every kind of Honour, but the most of honourable opponent :D

GhastlyGhoulMan12/22/2015, 7:44:55 AM1 votes

I would rather have people try to beg me to honor them or offer trades (which I would honestly be inclined to do the opposite unless they earned it) rather than continue the atrociousness that is the current toxicity in the league community.

It may not be the perfect solution, but I'd say it's the lesser of two evils.
