So How's Shen Doing?

Just a quick question addressed to Meddler. First time posting on these boards, and just wanted to see if I get a response.

Used to play shen alot pre and post rework, but not very often ever since they lowered his q % damage. Right now, to me personally, his dueling power is still quite meh, and hes really not much good for anything else besides being an ult and taunt bot, and/or decent splitpusher. The health and armor buffs he received 2 patches ago helped, but he still relies on having a good team to win, which you cannot always count on in solo queue. This is just my own opinion of course.

Boards and/or Meddler, what do you think? How's Shen doing?

"Miserably" would be an apt description.

Which saddens me greatly, because Shen is one of my all-time favorites to play.

His update is very confused, because it generally pushes him further into melee but doesn't give him anything to really encourage his presence there.

The sword mechanic feels really poorly defined overall and could use more intricate interactions and higher risk/reward. It's not really independently threatening or useful, it's just sort of a hassle for Shen to constantly bring it forward-- but all it can do is the null-attack zone, which is only effective insomuch as the opponents have a limited window to attack you (basic attack procs like Quinn, Darius, on Spellblade, etc.) where it's otherwise only going to help you if you already have the lead in the fight-- at best, it might force someone away from you.

I just feel like he doesn't match up to his competition because he's gotta be right up close, but doesn't really bring a huge threat so being (unlike Darius, say). If the sword had more effect on the patterns of his gameplay, it would probably feel a lot more interesting and rewarding to pull off smart plays with.

I'm not a huge Shen fan to begin with, though, and I don't really play Rift. So there's that.
