Playing immobile mages mid really blows right now(vent post)

I'm actually really close to just quiting mid and maybe league altogether at this point. Assassin mid laners are in right now, so almost every game you're going to go againstEkko Fizz Leblanc Zed YasuoTalon , who basically you only beat if they colossally mess up themselves(like yasuo windwalling the wrong way, fizz blowing e for no reason, etc) which may be likely, but puts all of the pressure on them to mess up and you don't get to play proactively.

Hell, if that's just all it was I would be happy with it. That's how they're supposed to be. That's a fun lane right there(at least compared to now). Why? The issue is in what you can do with the knowledge above. You can either

1)Try to shove the wave into them. However, guess what? A lot of the time you can't even do that because of the fun ganks of LeeSin ,Camille , Zac etc. who just murder you if you step up past the river wall on your side. "Why don't you just ward?" Great idea, doesn't always work. What do I mean by this? Literally the only time you can ward is when you see them show somewhere else on the map, because if you don't they can be in the bush just waiting to kill you when you go to ward. And hell, even the best case scenario is getting nerfed next patch with the nerfs to wards. Forget about control wards, you'll never be able to defend them because you'll just die if you leave. To sum this point up, you can try to shove assassins in but you put yourself in grave danger of junglers mostly due to how junglers are allowed to spam gank in this meta.

  1. Let the assassins push into you. This option is by far the worst option you could ever do, since the second you do this you allow assassins to roam and friends like Fizz andLeeSin can dive you. They don't even have to try to dive you on even ground, because when they roam they are bound to pick up a kill or two eventually and return to lane with a shiny new weapon. You can't follow them, because they'll just kill you. Hell, it's risky to try to punish them by shoving their tower now because of my fun jungling buddies Shaco LeeSin Khazix etc.

And yeah, i'm definitely aware ofsummoner 3 item 3157 item 3102 , but you can't get the items until after the assassins hit their power "spike"(can I call it a spike? it feels like a crime to call it something as meager as a spike) and exhaust has a hefty cooldown and won't even always be enough. You are basically a camp that they can choose to farm at any time they choose to until a certain point in the game, and it flat out isn't fun to play against.

Anyways, I just felt the need to vent. I'm going to try playing other lanes, i've been watching some wave management videos for top lane(particularly where to keep the wave against which kinds of junglers) and i've already played a fair bit of ADC and support, so hopefully I can find enjoyment in those roles. If not, i'll try out some more DOTA before returning to various FPS, probably Battlefield.

Aurelion Sol, Xerath, Ziggs and Annie has pretty decent win rates.

immobile mages win by being stronger than their opponent. If youre not feeding they cant fight you because you just demolish them whenever they get close. If youre missing all your skillshots you just havent learned to lead their dodges.

The only success I've had playing against assassins are either they mess up or I play under tower until late game or a gank from jungle. Immobile mages tend to be stronger than assassins in late game if you can stall out their kill farm.

Sorry, but being under tower and playing the stall game is all I got in terms of counter strategy.

Lux actually feels very good right now, I think because they reworked her E to cost less mana the same time as they changed mana pools, they gave her faster autos at the same time as Doran's ring having a +5 damage passive. And of course they made her shield stronger which helps against assassins. So yeah Lux seems tuned as post 8.9 mage, while everybody else has quite mixed results since they just messed with their numbers without a clear idea where it'd land them.
