DID SOMEONE SUMMONED ME HI
Diehard Lulu support main since season 3 with a 448k mastery speaking here. Lemme see how to begin...

Also, at this point in time, which lane/role is lulu best in? Thanks!
Top. Mid isn't that good right now mainly because of how AP itemization just kind of stinks right now. Though after 6.9 she will be a little worse off because any mage can easily outduel and outscale her. Toplane still consists of melee bruisers, which is something she excels at dealing with.
Lulu support kind of "sucks" because of several reasons:
- Most players aren't accustomed to adjust themselves to "peel and protect mode", which is something that only support players will have to do. A point and click damage spell that also serves as a beacon to land better skillshots and a ranged poke? If you have been playing damage dealers and is playing a champ like that, you're gonna obviously poke as hard as you can. And that is the case with most players, unless you are capable of adjusting different "mentalities".
- Lulu's support playstyle is solely based on spellcasting reactively, and not in a specific order. Yes, this means you can literally never learn how to mash 3 buttons in a row, and still play her as a support well, because as a support she becomes a shittier version of Janna but with more poke as a tradeoff. And since most people play champs that require them to mash buttons in a specific order, playing as Lulu support would screw them over very well. Oh, ADC is almost dying? Better attempt to 1v2 enemy botlane, when a single shield could've gotten your ADC a double kill! (Yes this comes from spec live)
- Lulu's early game, as a support, is weaker than most of the "more OP" supports today.
- As a support who has no lockdowns, and in a midst of a meta where supports with lockdowns are favored, Lulu becomes a very teammate-reliant support. If you are going to try to set up and "spoonfeed" ADCs kills, and if the ADC has no flying clue on when to go in, you can't really do it unless the enemy botlane is just stupid. "But what about Janna and Soraka? They're OP too but has no lockdowns!" Then this comes to another point...
- Her peels, as a support, is actually rather subpar, unless you and/or your ADC is a mad genius, or the enemy just sucks. In a solo lane it is very easy to escape ganks because all she has to do is... W herself and Q in the general direction of the enemies! However, it's not that simple botlane, which makes her a very risky and unsafe pick. Janna can mash any button and just get out of a gank. Soraka... healers are OP.
- Her poke, compared to midlane mages who can also go botlane, is also subpar. Things like Brand/Vel'Koz has more range, more damage, less mana-hungry, and even has lockdowns. Lulu doesn't, so why pick her botlane?

I was wondering if anyone has experience with lulu as well as a build and tips for either support and mid.
(I don't play Lulu mid/top I'm not sorry)
I actually have a pretty in-depth guide (though I haven't been updating since I haven't been playing in a long while) if you want more of the specifics. But in general:
- E ally cast >>>>>>> E enemy cast. Yes her shields are kind of shitty, but you get to kill more birds with a stone by ally casting onto your teammate than enemy casting just for that damage.
- W enemy cast > W ally cast. Polymorph is one of the last targeted silences in existence, so why aren't people abusing that? I don't know. Its purpose is kind of self-explanatory, and is easy to use.
- Her ult isn't just a "save that motherfucker device", by the way. In fact, it's one of the most powerful engage follow-up spells, so stupidly strong that she can make the squishiest of assassins temporary tanks.
- Go more peel-focused than poke-focused. You're the support, after all, you're there to peel and babysit teammates, not willy-nilly deal damage.
- Try not to engage, unless an enemy is obviously out of place. She excels at peeling and turning fights, not starting fights.
- Avoid trying to 1v1, unless you are going full AP build, or that the enemy is so low that a E enemy cast can kill him.
Sorry, long post. Though I'll probably be beaten up by downvotes because I simply think and play differently, and that no one trusts anyone below plat 5.
