FILL in the New Champ Select

Being able to do multiple things well is a valuable asset in this game. But fills being forced into a role sort of defeats the purpose. Filling really means helping by being able to unselfishly draft well to help team's comp regardless of lane, or reacting to counter pick. Filling is not being forced into a role or having to play less desirable positions because of supply and demand. Give fills the ability to assign a role they don't want to play, or make every summoner rank all the roles 1 - 5.

As long as people are selecting main roles, and then snowballing at them this will probably be toxic.

I really do honestly like to fill http://www.lolskill.net/summoner/NA/Dezus/champions and not just talking without knowledge.

exactly why I hate the new system too, can no longer make the smart pick where your team needs it

Cheers, thanks for reading the post.

Lol no problem, I made a tl:dr post with the same grievances, sucks having this system forced upon us

Yeah it has a lot of downsides, including how it treats Fills, I will probably take a short break as it sorts itself out. One thing that definitely it will add is more accountability, as if you always are adc'ing and are doing average at best... It could lead to a bunch of issues in ranked including 'weeding people out' which should definitely be frowned down upon.

In a lot of cases, people who fill are better at a specified role then someone who mains it.

fill means you pick what people dont want. that it.

It is all a matter of personal interpretation, and I am sure plenty of people share yours. :)

"Fill" means and always has meant that you're willing to play whatever the last role available is so that everyone else can play the role they want.

So the system sees that you're willing to fill and if there have been people waiting on a role for a while they will assign you to that team so you can fill that role.

Obviously, within whatever role you get you should always select a champion that benefits the team but you still need to play that role.

If you weren't willing to play some role then you shouldn't have selected fill.

Too be honest, fills are usually the people that can counter pick and play well in every lane, every game. That means they can usually play a very large number of characters at a good level, and are able "carry" from multiple positions. It seems the view from teambuilder players versus draft players is fundamentally different, as the former sees it uncompetitively.

And how are they supposed to pick what the team needs when they take a main role from someone else who had dibs on it?

Take away the ability to have dibs on it. This is a win or lose game (competitive), and how you effect a team should always be more important then your individual personal choice of who to play. So if you do one thing reasonably well with a small pool of champs, and another person can outright win what is usually your main role, then you are a drain if you can't do anything else. This is especially true if you know that you are average at best, because in all other team sports average players fall in and find ways to be good role players (which I do sometimes too), not dictate the terms in which they are going to play.

It was common knowledge that teambuilder players wanted casual good game's, and people in draft wanted real good game's.
