Add reCAPTCHA to League of Legends @RIOT

reCAPTCHA: Easy on Humans, Hard on Bots

The problem: We've all played with bot accounts. It's a problem that has faced the League community for the past few years, but is only getting progressively worse. They are becoming more and more complex, avoiding Riot's automated mouse movement detection. I get at least 15 friend requests per day from bot accounts trying to spam me with links. (No, I haven't signed up for any weird websites, it's likely being scraped off these forums, since it started when I began posting.) It seems a thousand different solutions have been posted on these forums, but there is one that hasn't. CAPTCHAs.

The solution: We all know what CAPTCHAs are too, the annoying little codes that are often required when signing up or logging into a website. http://i.imgur.com/UUrDeIK.png Now, I know a lot of people are against CAPTCHAs because there are bots that can solve them and they are frankly annoying as balls, but hold your manatee's. (Seriously, this is about to get really fun, really fast)

I present to you; reCAPTCHA. http://i.imgur.com/rLgSwkB.gif reCAPTCHA is similar to the old system, except there are no codes to be entered. All you have to do is check a box.

Common questions: "But bots can check boxes too" - Yes, they can. But Google can tell what is a human click and a bot click. "How?!" - It's Google, is that really a question? Remember, Google has ads and tracking software on tens of thousands of websites. They have immense amounts of data on people's online habits. Now they're using it for good. "Why?" - Are you serious, you're going to ask me why we need reCAPTCHA on League that is used before playing a game? "WHAT ABOUT LEAGUE'S BLIND USERS?" - reCAPTCHA has audio functionality that is equally difficult for bots to solve. Though I'm not sure why you're playing League if you're blind, good luck I suppose.

@Riot; Implement a reCAPTCHA before sending a friend request or joining a game. This will effectively eliminate bot accounts, account farming/selling, and will drastically improve the overall community. What puts someone on tilt more than having a bot on their team? Will that person's anger continue into their next game, affect their gameplay and lead to bullying/harassment/trolling? You betcha.

Check out reCAPTCHA here: https://www.google.com/recaptcha/intro/index.html

Lets give it a shot, eh? What's the worse that could happen.

Edit: Carried three games today, almost perfect K/D every single time, then got into promos & had 3 players on my team feed 9 kills and disconnect.

It's included in the new client, along with replays and a move away from Adobe Air. It's slated for release later in 2115.

If it's as simple as you proclaim (clicking a box), it would be handy to have this before hitting the play button and entering the queue. Or, if they could work it this way, have hitting the "Play" button BE the reCaptcha.

Not only that, it would seriously help with all these friend requests bots. I went away to see my family on the easter week-end, came back on my account on monday night, 15 friend requests.

I would have went : "OMG, WOW I'M SO POPULAR", but sadly it's the rise of the bots.

But bots are my friends ;( Blitzcrank Blitzcrank Blitzcrank

Scrimshäw4/7/2015, 10:56:22 PM4 votes

it could just ask a question when you send a friend request like:

"Who's the most broken champion in League of Legends?"

"Lux"

then your friend request gets sent.

Me too. Came back from Easter with 10-15 waiting for me. Got another 3 today. Annoying.

Idea is nice, BUT!

Can't it be done differently? Like uh.. Every x'th game? Or for example if you ingame get 10th death without a kill some windows pops up with "are you human?" with checkbox?

I wanna know why those 10 people (at this moment in time) are friends with bots, unless they're all accounts that Amumu plays

Irelia Bot4/8/2015, 5:34:45 AM2 votes

It is annoying logging on to an account after notbeing on for a week only to have 10+ random friend requests from people I don't know. I assume they are mostly bots.

Do something about this riot.

I have been playing for a year now, and never met a bot.

10/10 can still play LeeSingue

Not only no, but hell no.

The box isn't the only thing to check, at least the one time I've used this system. Attempting to check the box brings up a traditional Captcha.

Jesus is Savior4/8/2015, 8:21:32 AM1 votes

This hasn't worked in any online game, ever. Why would it work in League?

Most captchas aren't even server-sided. They are client-sided. So bots that don't use the game client won't even need to solve the captcha. The captcha simply won't exist, and the bot will go along on its merry way.

I've only gotten one friend request bot in recent memory, and it's been far longer since I've had a bot in a game (even further if we discount games that weren't vs AI), so I don't really feel it's necessary.

TenSlashTen4/9/2015, 4:51:14 AM1 votes

dude muh blind friend got gold "NO THE BOTS ARE MY FRIEND!"!

Offended4/8/2015, 8:06:48 PM1 votes

I said in the original post that it could be in-game, upon joining queue, and when sending a friend request. It's helpful to read the entire thread before commenting, otherwise you come across as cynical.

brad4/8/2015, 5:12:53 AM1 votes

it doesnt do anything

you just click im not a robot when you make your bot account and then log it on and set it loose

Saint Archer4/8/2015, 8:19:33 PM1 votes

well the thing here is, they'll hire someone at minimum wage to just log into accounts all day. meanwhile, millions of other players have to no enter annoying captchas every single time we want to play.
