Why, some people think it's healthy to have a champion that counters 70% of the champion pool, in the hardest way possible, while, in the meantime, there is no really counterpick to him.
Pick Vladimir some will say... 50,71% winrate for Malphite. Cho'Gath... 50,51% winrate for Malphite.
I understand the meta favours some hard AD comps / champs. But we all want to have an unhealthy answer to that, instead of trying to balance those ?

Also where are you getting 70% from lol? He only wrecks attack speed reliant champs. Which is like what 10 to 20%?
The meta favors heavy AD so you're just seeing more of them. In season 4 or 5 if you picked all ad you'd see a Malphite too.
Diana top is an extremely good choice, fizz and rumble too, Syndra (as a game counter), same with Malz. Plenty more.... think defensive steroid and slighty tanky.

I don't see well a Syndra/Malzahar/Diana top lane. Easy gankable ? And if you pick those top lane, what about team composition ?
I remind you, we talk about SoloQ here, so those kind of picks on top lane may disrupt team composition, considering every other lane pick what they want.
LE: I may add the fact that, even if he will lose lane against those, he will still have one button = ACE! button. While as an AD/AS champion gets rekt 1v1 by Malphite, early/mid/lane and in every teamfights.
