is it just me or is trackers knife item 3711 underwhelming compared to the other smites. maybe if they actually allowed your wards to regenerate or something it would feel good. well thank you everyone for weighing in I appreciate the views and thanks for all the feedback.

It's the strongest one in the game if you know how to use it. Vision>Combat stats if you know how to use it.

i know i just wish the wards regened like trinkets or the hunter potion.

It'd be OP if it did. Part of the skill of the smite is knowing when to back to refill.

Green smite is the strongest smite in the game.

It's for coordinated teams that make use of vision.

i get that it's just weaker than a sightstone or trinkets yet gives less than both.

But unlike sightstone, trackers doesn't "waste" an item slot just for vision and trackers is much easier to build super quick while supports have to grind for poke gold or siege minions. It's a sightstone that gives bonus experience and is cheaper to build.

Revealing Smite Slaying a Large or Epic monster with Revealing Smite grants you vision on that monster when it respawns. This vision is lost when the monster is killed.

There you go.

Much more useful counter-jungling effect than the old Poacher's and fits well with the vision theme.

Tracker's Knife is the best jungle item by far.

While it doesn't offer combat stats, the vision provides more information so that you may better choose when and how you fight. It is great for tracking the enemy jungler, controlling objectives and proper rotations.

In addition, you don't have to save your Smite for combat situations. This means that you can always smite camps with useful buffs such as Wolves, Raptors or Gromp and that you will have it for objectives (i.e. Dragon, Baron, Rift Herald) more frequently (having not used it in a fight beforehand).

It lets you provide vision into the late-game too. Most junglers want to swap out Warding Totem for Oracle's Lens ASAP and they don't want to waste an item slot on Sightstone late-game, so this lets your keep contributing to your team's vision.

Having a resource be available more often, because it's less adaptable, has less strategic option, and less uses, is not a mark of strength.

No one has to save their smite for combat situations, it's that the others can because they do more.

Having more decisions to make is not indicative of strength either. This only reflects the difficulty of an item.

My thought process on the subject is that:

  • If I use Smite for the combat efficiency, then I do not have it for objectives.
  • If I save it for objectives, I lose combat efficiency
  • If I Smite a camp for a desirable buff, I may not have it for an objective or combat.

When I pay for Tracker's Knife, I'm paying for the vision control provided by the wards rather than combat stats/utility from the smite upgrade. Since Tracker's Knife's gold value lies with its wards rather than its Smite, I'm never really weaker in combat when my Smite is on CD or being held in reserve. I'm slightly weaker in direct than I would be with a different jungle upgrade, but I can easily work around it with vision control to choose my battles.

Since my Smite isn't useful in combat, then there is no drawback in using my Smite exclusively for specific buffs or objectives.

You are welcome to disagree, but that is my general thought process on the matter.

While flexibility can be important, having more options doesn't necessarily make something better.

If anything trackers knife is leaning more to too strong rather than weak.

The smite sucks, yes, but the vision control it gives is pretty strong, it's basically a sightstone built into a jungle item that's far more affordable and earlier to get than sightstone. Being able to deep ward jungle and top side like a support makes map control completely in your favor, while red/blue is for actual fighting, ganks, and dealing damage, none of them actually say "win condition" like trackers.

"GL ganking my mid laner, I'll just put this here for the next 2 minutes"

The only buff that trackers could get is a smite that when used, turns the smited monster into a sweeping lens (not literally), but idk if even that is balanced. Would be funny seeing rift scuttle clearing wards or knowing when your raptors are warded by the mid laner.

I get trackers on all of my junglers. Tank and Mage junglers tend to have enough CC to not need Stalker's and don't require the dueling provided by Skirmisher's. Assassins prefer to avoid the drawn out fights Skirmisher's caters to and may not need the CC from Stalker's as compared to vision to set up picks. Only Fighters have a good case to use all three.

The best thing about Tracker's is it allows you to switch out for a Red on your first back so you don't waste time in a warded bush while not sacrificing your ability to ward.

Are you playing higher elo premade? Are you a ranged jungle who barely AAs? Do you want to aid your team in map control? Do you emphasize on counter jungling?

If not this is not for your.

And it can't be buffed to fit those who think it's "underwhelming" because it's already so strong.
