With the reverts on Malzahar's rework he is basically just a worse version of his old self
The only difference now is that his W is voidlings and the old W is on his ult. The problem with this is that when the was "reworked" a large portion of his damage and scaling on his abilites were reduced and with the reverts to making him more similar to how he was he just ends up being a complete worse version of his old self.
He needs another rework. One that does not focus on voidlings. While they were nice in old malz they were typically just a little reward you got for playing around it and not having to focus completely on it. They require too much set-up and have too much counterplay in order to be useful. The spawning time, lack of speed and health make them an ability that is hardly worth casting unless your pushing a lane with no one in it or are planning to ult someone and even then you have to hope your voidlings get out fast enough to actually deal enough damage to your ulted target in order to kill. He was never meant to be some minion caster and his voidlings HAVE to be useless otherwise they are busted. They are too much of a problem.
The other thing that has to go is his passive. The point of it was to encourage engagements in lane however it does the complete opposite. If my shield is down I am literally just gonna wait under tower for it to go back up. You can ask most Malzahar mains and they would gladly sacrifice the shield in favor of something else simply because it holds too much power in his kit. It's stupidly strong for no reason. I would legit nerf it to the ground if it meant his other abilities could be made stronger. Malzahar used to be an anti-assassin terror that people were actually afraid to 1v1. Now it's laughable because they know Malzahar has to cycle through his abilities twice in order to kill anyone on his own. He used to be the "space aids" of League. He needs a complete overall in order to regain his identity because as he is right now is no good.
