I think Pyke's R is overloaded.

Pyke is a cool champion design that is fairly balanced (imo) besides his ultimate. He's a support with a Grab, a stun, stealth and a:

Resetting, aoe execute that doubles kill gold (so 2 first bloods), ignores shields and ignores armor/mr, and is a slight dash, with a small cast timer, AND the people that can be executed don't know it.

Pyke's ult has a lot of Conditional things in it, but I don't know if it's actually "overloaded".

  • AoE Skillshot
  • 2x Kill Gold for the team
  • Blink - On hitting enemy champion
  • Resetting - On kill with ult
  • Execute that ignores shields/armor - When enemy is below HP threshold. Otherwise deals physical damage which is blocked like normal.

Cast Time and Notifications are how the ult works, not what it does, which is why I don't think they should be counted in a discussion about if it's overloaded or not. We've also seen these things changed on abilities in the past without it being considered a major alteration to an ability.

  • AoE Skillshot is the only thing that makes sense for a dropped from above up from below ability. To my knowledge we don't have an ability in the game that hits an area all at once yet only effects one person in said area.
  • 2x Kill Gold is needed if he's going to function as a support that buys full price AD items.
  • The Blink is a double edged sword. Without it he could just cast the ability over and over from the edge of the fight, killing while staying safe. With it he can get into the middle of the fight to chase a little better or be killed for going too deep.
  • I think the Execute is designed as it is as another guarantee that he can function on a support budget and against other supports. It'd obviously be too strong if it ignored shields/armor on all targets in the AoE. Ignoring Shields helps Pyke function against Enchanter supports when he goes all in (while still allowing them to shield against his earlier abilities), and ignoring Armor helps him function against Tank supports when he turns on them.
  • Resets... some champions have them, why not Pyke? Honestly, I think this ability would be balanced to be a lot stronger if it was balanced without the reset, I think the reset takes respectable amount of the power budget.

Do you realize that all the enemy needs is a dash or flash and the ability is completely useless. And it's super easy to predict pyke ult because you're low. It's can be a super good ability but it can just as easily be completely useless.

Try playing Pyke, it's not easy at all to hit his ult in a teamfight, and if you miss it y(either hit the wrong target since it's AoE or the enemy got healed, god bless Draven item 3072 gaining 1/4 of his hp with one aa) you'll just teleport in the middle of the fight

the shape makes it easy to miss

Oooh, i love the game where we make any champ sound broken when it really isn't

Let me try. This champion has a passive that brings him back to nearly full hp even if you get him super low. This champion has a dash with 2 charges, has a grab that cannot be intercepted by minions, a 150% attack speed steroid which does %max hp damage, and a super overloaded semi global ult that gives his whole team bonus movement speed, gives the champion a huge shield, AND does %max health damage to the enemy.

See how hyperbole is stupid for balance discussions?
