Why does Taliyah's passive require her to be near walls?
Taliyah's passive is one of the more underwhelming passives in the game but that's fine as the rest of her kit is pretty fun. But why does she have to be near walls to activate it? It requires you to manually path in sometimes rather odd ways and can be really finicky with how far away from the wall you can be. This is also frustrating because Taliyah has some of the smoothest animations in the game but when she's travelling back to lane you see her pop up on her rock/snowboard then lost it then pop up again and it's all really odd.
I recall hearing that her kit originally had more interesting interactions with walls but standing near them to summon a platform is just weird. It would be like if Ezreal's passive could overheat and result in slower attack speed if you hit your spells too much; it's a weird limitation on something that isn't very spectacular to begin with. (though Ezreal's passive is really good) I often feel like moving closer to walls to get the movespeed boost is actually resulting in me reaching my destination later than if I had just auto-pathed, but I don't know if that's really the case. What I do know is that a champion who emphasizes movement in both her gameplay and theme has a mechanic that makes her movement a lot clunkier than it has to be.
I'd really just like to see the wall requirement removed. Maybe reduce the out of combat cooldown too now that she has less kiting power with the weaker rylai's and could use some help escaping but that's optional. Aurelion Sol recently lost his arbitrary "escape velocity" mechanic which leaves me hopeful that you'll at least consider this. Ultimately it's just making an ok-at-best movespeed boost less annoying to access which might boost her roaming power a bit (cutting down time taken from pathing near walls) but I don't see it has a huge balance change so much as a simple quality of life one.
Would like to hear other's thoughts on this. Taliyah isn't so great right now but she's still fun to play when you aren't roaming around, maybe fixing that problem could bring her more play if only at the casual level.
