You can't balance Ryze, they truly have messed up with this rework, he's only ever going to flip flop between OP and Useless until they fix him.

They balanced Vlad, Kassadin (for a short while), Lee, Jarvan, Tryn and Jax. All of them at some point were considered badly designed champions than couldn't be balanced.

Jax is prime example how hipercarry should work. Problem is that new ryze wasn't exactly item depended and could dish out crazy dmg with only cheap mana items and good runes.

Strong champions should require gold. Turns out mana scalling wasn't as good idea as they thought.

They balanced Vlad

lol

Toxic isnt the same as unbalanced.

Vlad has his weaknesses and strenghts, very very defined ones at that. Potent sustain and harrass, weak to counter harrass and all-ins, no CC and no mobility. Force him to use his pool and all he has is flash.

Basically, if his sustain cant save him, he is dead. In TFs he can get more space, but he cant be too tanky or he loses damage. Which leads to get blown up like crazy.

Not just toxic, broken, Riot has admitted to this. Vlad has the potential to become a catch 22, a monster that you have no choice but to focus in a team fight, this leaves other members of his team to deal out their damage while Vlad is capable of eating three or four ults and a good bit of CC before falling. Heck that's part of why I love playing him, his kit is weak early, but after getting your first item, you just keep hitting power spike after power spike and with the right build can 1v2 or 1v3 in many situations and take kills and sometimes even walk away.

Hypercarry is spelled wrong.

kassadin was never balanced, if you knew how to play him he was always strong. he is still strong, it's that waveclear mid with high burst dominate the scene and he has neither

Orangesilk5 votes

He has a rather binary "Are you in my range hell yeeah, are you not in my range?, I'm dead" Kinda kit, and we all know balancing binary stuff is a nightmare. Darius is the perfect example, as was the whole horrible mess that they called the "Renekton Bar"

Good riddance

Well.. honestly I have no love for the champion, tbh I'm actually quite happy seeing him struggle, Ryze has been a monster for ages now, I see no one crying over Olaf or Aatrox so ehh sry not that sympathetic.

Here is the inherent issue with Ryze, before the rework, Ryze had no big choices on what to do, it was just.

Do I have mana? Yes.

Is there an enemy in range? Yes.

Put your mouse cursor over the enemy and mash all your keys.

Whether it was poking them early or going all in on them late, Ryze's solution to everything was just to mash all of his buttons. Now with the recent rework they gave him SOME kind of choices in that they made it so if he wants to go all in then he needs to get his passive up, but then it just becomes his playstyle from before except hyper charged where he spams 20 spells in 1 second.

And it's not even that most of his kit is two point and click abilities, and a steroid with one skillshot. The problem is that his spells are too binary in what they do.

Look at a champion like Lulu, three of her skills are point and click abilities, but the thing that makes her gameplay interesting is that two of them can be used on the enemy which gives you more decision making. Do I use my E on an ally to prevent some damage, or do I use it on them to give them the on hit magic damage from my passive, or do I use it on them to get more range for my q? Or do I use my e on the enemy to deal damage to them? Or maybe I'm using it to reveal an enemy that can go into stealth so they can't get away.

With just one skill Lulu has so many choices in what she can do with it. You can't do the same with Ryze so long as his skills are so binary, and turning everything into a skillshot wouldn't fix the issue either because that won't change when and why you use his abilities. He needs a complete re-imagining of his kit because all he is is another version of Yorick.

But top laners don't like Lulu either. Or any champion that isn't their main.

Earl Eulrich5 votes

sure, without the point&click q his dmg just can´t go through the frontline as easy lategame, which is sort of a huge nerf there and his laning-phase, especially top is just easy to abuse. Also he lacks waveclear if he doesn´t commit his ult...he just got overhyped a lot for the w-spamming and people didn´t really play around his many shortcomings well enough.

Sp33d Zer05 votes

Exactly. He really wasn't that insane. At his best he had a 51% win rate. Thats low compared to a lot of other massively threatening champions out there. People acted like he was sejuani on cinderhulk patch.

LICENSED HOOKER1 votes

oh man, i joined this game at the beginning of season 5, the horror when sejani was meta, literally meta shudders

Voluug132 votes

Then again people didnt play correctly and grouped in tight groups almost by default.

The problem of Sejuani is that, and that Riot nerfed counterjungling to 2-3 champions at most. THus counterjungling was useless because its nerfed (same problem with Vayne, its the game's general seting that leads her to reach lategame always).

LICENSED HOOKER1 votes

lmao, boards never fails to surprise me, not a clue why this is downvoted.

Syvenon4 votes

I mean he was like 100% pickban in the LCS. Like I don't think I saw anyone succeed against him in lane. Like ever the shoutcasters were like "yeah you have to gank and kill him before level 3 or you're fucked". So obviously there was something wrong.

Sinister Anubis5 votes

The idea of ryze is cancer same thing with vlad why do i say this well its simple. A tanky mage with insane burst not just that but its sustained and hes tanky as balls its worst then the nasus syndrome

Maple Crusader3 votes

Ryze has always been a problem.

Sp33d Zer01 votes

Well when you make a champ with ideals to scale into late game and then nerf his scaling, of course his win rate is going to drop.

Trebbi1 votes

Are you sure he is struggling? Cuz he still seems OP to me, what are his bad matchups?

Voluug131 votes

Vlad, Irelia, Anything ranged that can out-mana him, long range mages.

Basically sustain and range.

Calabok1 votes

I think Ryze is in a perfect place.

Hope he rots in obscurity.

Feel like they should remove the Point and Click root or give it some sort of cast time and then balance him. Point and click abilites in league tend to be absurdly broken and the champion needs to be heavily nerf to compensate for the fact that they don't want to remove the point and click. Generally most point and click abilites are CC, which is kinda the problem, cause if you CC someone well now your other abilities are point and click as well, as its almost impossible to miss someone who isn't moving, or is moving VERY slowly. Compared to your abilites.

I made a rework for him the prevented from being the plague of a "machine-gun mage" while making him fun'sh 9 months ago >.>. I think it would have worked out well too :(. http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/Bu4kZgVQ-ryze-rework

Last time I checked, Ryze was still sitting around 50%. Where did you find this out?

Ryze is an ugly champ, why does he even exist

Guess who's back to a 36% winrate!

Can't say that the regular Ryze is back to a 36% winrate considering his main lane is top, where he has a 42.62% winrate (Statistics as of champion.gg) I also can't say that Ryze is really in the best spot, nor will he ever be with his current kit. The thing is, his kit is extremely snowbally if he gets even the slightest advanatage and has a strong mix of burst and sustained damage due to his passive. What Riot should have done is really decided whether or not they wanted 'new' Ryze to be either a burst champion or a sustained damage champion. Old Ryze was all burst, and that was it. Once his burst was down, he really didn't have much more to do. New Ryze, what with his rather similar damages originally ended up becoming an easy powerhouse since all you had to really do is learn how to manage his new passive, and to learn how to hit a skillshot.

Stacona1 votes

Ryze is insanely overpowered and broken right now; stop looking at win rates people - but this kit is not actually balance-able meaning ... back to the drawing board boys, time for Ryze billionth time the charm amount of reworks he gets

He really, really is not. He is broken, sure, his playstyle is still ridiculous, but he's not overpowered. Win rates don't tell the whole story but 42% win rates say enough.

GOOD RYZE WAS BROKEN AS FUCK BEFORE THE NERFS.

Also it's still 42.62% in top lane, the 36% is mid lane ryze.

Titanium701 votes

Well we see, Ryze totaly new and absolutly NOT-broken kit easier to balance than the old one, BY FAR! x'D

Who actually thought it´s a good idea to give him an URF-Mode (perma-cage) as passive? :P

TotalJerk1 votes

They should've just cut the bullshit and Sion'd him.
