@Riot Can we have at least 1 more item that builds from these items for summoner's rift?

BLACK REALM GOD··35 votes·2,076 views

item 1051 item 3802 item 3191 item 3140 item 3123 item 3155 item 3136 item 3034

brawlers glove and seeker's have a second path for twisted treeline, but not for summoners rift. any chance all of these items might get an extra path for some extra options mid game?

I want one for item 3136 . Serrated dirk builds into 3 different items. Another magic pen item would really help champions like Rumble Teemo Brand who scale better with penetration then with AP.

Edit: I mean another choice for penetration, not more penetration. It makes sense that an item building from Haunting Guise would have the UNIQUE PASSIVE called Eyes of Pain. Liandry's is kind of wasted if the enemy isn't building health. Having a choice with a different second passive or active for lower health targets would be great.

You can already do true damage to squishies with the pen ap users already get

AlienPrimate5 votes

You can't do true damage with anything that doesn't say true damage. You can do increased magic damage to squishies assuming they have no MR even in runes and you build every penetration item, but not true damage. It will just add a multiplier to your damage like it always does, but instead of a number below 1 to reduce it, the multiplier will be over 1 which increases it.

Taking this to extremes, a mage with every penetration item, mastery, and rune against a ranged champion with base MR:

30 pen from items, 19.5 from runes, 5.75 from masteries = 55.25

35% from void staff

38.5*.65-55.25 = -30 MR

2-100/(100+30) = 1.23 damage multiplier

Before penetration, it is 100/(100+38.5) = 0.72 damage multiplier

Somebody please gif this guy with The joke ------------------------------------------------------------>you

AlienPrimate7 votes

There was no joke though. I think Bubbaman actually believes that if you reduce someone's resistance below 0 you actually do true damage to them. You technically do more than doing true damage to them. If it was true damage, it would just be a multiplier of 1 in my example and not 1.23.

Telosen1 votes

lol this guy likes to hear himself talk. You just said you clearly understood what Bubbaman meant yet you went through all this hoopla anyway just to say something pointless.

Why on earth do mages need another penetration item when they have plenty already, and their Void Staff has not been nerfed or reworked like the old Last Whisper was?

AlienPrimate1 votes

No, I don't understand what he meant because what he said is wrong. He meant that mages do true damage if their target's resistances fall below zero when they clearly do not. Doing true damage would be a nerf to full penetration for both AD and AP, but especially for AD with any kind of lifesteal.

Telosen2 votes

Except he didn't say that at all. He said one sentence. His point is that ranged carries don't have much MR. There's enough raw magic penetration available to mages that they can penetrate with flat penetration all the MR of most squishies in the game if they have no MR items whatsoever, essentially meaning you do exactly the tooltip damage to those enemies. It's technically not true damage, but for all intents and purposes basically is.

KoKoboto5 votes

Semantics kinda. Note KINDA.

Before the magic resist buff to all champions most squishies would get around 42 magic pen only. With normal runes, item 3020 item 3151 you would do true damage. Now it's still very much possible but you need to invest more in magic penetration through runes. Still in the end you're getting true damage and only true damage. You can't actually multiply your magic damage through penetration alone. You need armor or magic resist reduction in order to multiply past true damage. So Wits End, Corki gatling Gun, Nasus spirit fire, et cetera .

LordGeovanni1 votes

That buff was to ranged champions if i remember correctly no one else got touched and i think 'sqishy' assassins got more than 42 magic resist

General Esdeath 3 votes

If you have 50 MR and I have 53 magic pen, that's true damage.

AlienPrimate1 votes

There are no white numbers. It is not true damage. It is increased magic damage from what the tooltip says.

Automated Riven4 votes

It is literally, for all intents and purposes, true damage.

AlienPrimate1 votes

Well how bout this? You build full lethality with black cleaver and death's dance. You do true damage like everyone is saying so you don't heal for that damage because it isn't physical. No...it doesn't work that way. There is a formula to follow based on resistances that gives an integer to be multiplied with all damage. If that multiplier is lower than 1 as it normally is, the damage is reduced. In extreme cases of penetration and low resistances which happens as often as an Urgot vs Aatrox top lane, the multiplier will be above 1 increasing the tooltip damage.

Noblewind2 votes

I understand you holding your ground and I think everyone understands the differences between damage types (magic/ad/true), but you DO understand what they mean right? Yes it's not TECHNICALLY the same, but people also call this scenario true damage, it's just a slang term. I.e. a scenario where enemy has close to 0 MR and your spell with base damage+scaling damage = 100, you will do about 100 damage, similar to the case where an ability does actual flat true damage. That's all they meant! Relax

Flawless Fetus1 votes

...So his point is that we don't need more mage items because the current ones already allow us to essentially deal true damage to the target... and your point is we need more magic pen items, because we can't deal true damage, but we can actually surpass true damage, and deal ludicrous amounts of magic damage...?

AlienPrimate1 votes

My point is, I would like more itemization for penetration. If the enemies don't have a lot of health, Liandry's is a half wasted purchase. I never said anything about a new item not having the unique passive called Eyes of Pain.

WhatAGeinius1 votes

Except, no they can't, because resistances can't go below 0.

So functionally, if you have penetration that exceeds a target's resistances, you are essentially doing true damage in that you are doing damage that is not being reduced by any resistance.

ProfDrDeath2 votes

Resistances can go below 0 - and the relevant damage is increased by 1% per point below 0 - but only by resistance reduction effects.

Penetration can only go to 0.

LordGeovanni1 votes

You used to be able to but ranged champions get scaling magic resist now.

Steelflame1 votes

I'd love it if the Trickster's Glass from BMB came back (Obviously adjusted a bit). AP assassins could use some love in their itemization, and that item would damned near be a perfect fit for them.

AirKingNeo7 votes

Because Executioner's is healthy for the game?

BLACK REALM GOD2 votes

anything can be healthy if balanced. there has to be an answer to healing/lifesteal/spell vamp/regen after all. it shouldnt be "we have to have a magic user that can 100-40 on their first hit to prevent ____'s heal. that limits the game so much it's crazy. and removing both forms of grievous wounds would just make the game impossible to play for some champs/against some champs without them being reworked into the ground.

honestly you'd have a better argument bringing lost chapter and brawlers glove into question than executioners calling.

KoKoboto3 votes

In it's current iteration it's pretty cancer but the thought of an item that reduces healing through physical damage doesn't sound too bad. There have been many propositions to have the item do the same thing but in a more healthy way.

Mighty Mortein4 votes

I do want item 3123 to build into an item that isn't Last Whisper based because the enemy team might not have a pure tank, but a drain tank that doesn't build much armour. The only champ I can think of that item 3033 is really good against is Mundo, but then again so is item 3036 if you can put up with his ult heals.

I feelitem 3033 as a full item is verrrrry situational.

Kloqdq1 votes

GW in general are really lacking. Assassins could use a GW item to deal with sustain tanks better (marksman).

1374344 votes

A GW assassin item doesn't really make much sense. An assassin is suppose to quickly blow up a target in one rotation. If they are successful at that they don't need GW. If they are unsuccessful (and are not behind, etc) then it is better to look at tuning their damage (i.e., lethality). Many assassins can also use mortal reminder or morellos.

Soon we will have GW items for ad (mortal reminder), mages (morellos), and tanks (thornmail). That is a good spread.

Kloqdq1 votes

The problem that assassins face is their inability to do more damage than carries (supports as well) can often heal/shield through. While buffing their damage is one way to do it, it just leads us back to the reason they were nerfed in the first place. Riot has been spreading their damage out over time as well so the increase in damage doesn't do much. From my time playing a couple other games I found that reduced healing is actually really important when you want to take out damagers or targets that are soaking up a lot of healing. GWs is a way to technically buff their damage without just straight up buffing it. It's more or else a quality of life thing. Most assassins wouldn't buy mortal in the first place because that was designed as a regen-tank shredder. Morellos is basically bought for mana and only mana. The actual GW part of it is fine but it's never bought for that.

GW cuts down the amount of healing a carry may do, which in turn lessens the effect of "just auto and heal to full'. This is mainly pointing at the AD assassins. They need an actual GW item designed for them.

Dr Poro3 votes

I don't think item 3802 and item 3155 really need another path because their upgrade is pretty generic for anyone who wants to buy those items. I'd really like another path for item 3191 but I think Riot doesn't want to allow mages to have too much armor. It should be in a way that you can't stack it with Zhonya's. Actually, I'd prefer if Zhonya's didn't give armor since I sometimes want the effect but not the armor.

BLACK REALM GOD1 votes

i felt the same way about item 3010 item 3114 item 3145 item 3801 anditem 2053

but you cant say these changes werent for the better.

DJMason881 votes

Probably because the things you listed aren't too unique, with the exception of maybe catalyst. Hexdinker and Lost Chapter however are unique (with Hexdinker being pretty niche) and i doubt you could make an item that would make you want it over Morellos.

BLACK REALM GOD1 votes

lost chapter + haunting guise

face of a thousand words

2500 gold

50 AP 200 HP 300 MP

unique passive 15 magic penetration

unique passive damaging an enemy with an ability or spell reduces the mana cost of the next spell by 30% if cast within 5 seconds.

unique passive cooldown 10%

DJMason881 votes

Sounds bad because of the low AP and the fact that this would be useless past early game. Morellos gives more CDR, more mana, more AP, has grievous wounds tacked on and its passive is arguably better. Liandry's gives more health, AP and is really good against tanks. I just don't see a reason to buy it.

BLACK REALM GOD1 votes

you severely underestimate 400 gold + 15 penetration + 30% mana cost reduction.

kassadin would have a field day with this item.

these all have 2 or 3 variances

General Esdeath 2 votes

I imagine item 3136 won't only because magic pen is iffy.

Votable Jester1 votes

What do you mean magic pen is iffy?

General Esdeath 1 votes

It's not like lethality it's a flat number that stays the same throughout the whole game, except void staff but even that % stays the same. Early game if you get item 3020 item 3136 +Piercing Thoughts giving 7% pen you can do true damage early on as someone like Brand

Votable Jester1 votes

Yes you can, but that is also 2,400 gold spent with only 25 AP attached. It is also pretty hard countered by just a bit of mr from items (as mr is more easily accessible than magic pen).

Also adding a new item building out of Haunting Guise wouldn't impact that situation except perhaps making it more common among mages (in which case Riot could nerf if necessary).

General Esdeath 1 votes

But that's the exact issue, some champs Brand Rumble rely on magic pen.

Votable Jester1 votes

Individual champions can be buffed/nerfed if their items are nerfed/buffed.

General Esdeath 1 votes

But that's what makes it iffy.
