From what I've seen and heard - Heal too high, everything else too weak.

Illabethe2 votes

The heal is extremely hard to get off in mid - late game blow out fights. It's generally only good in melee vs melee 1v1 duels.

he is really weak,

he is really weak,

But muh OP healing and dashes and 8 second CD

C’mon, Boards analyists can’t be wrong.

he does 0 damage out side of his W healing he isnt good

Illabethe5 votes

He does damage, but he's basically like a Riven without her Ult: gotta auto attack in between every skill, which automatically shoves them out of the meta of team fights, since Team fights don't allow auto attacking unless it's your core feature (Yasuo/Yi)

He is REALLY bad if even or Behind. He is really Good if ahead.

He’s really fun and versatile, possibly a hard champ to master too. Additionally, could be on the weak side too.

And people said he was going to be OP and a nightmare to balance...

I’m just laughing too hard right now. The haters overhype how he’s going to wreck season 9 and yet we haven’t even seen any complaints yet.

These are the same people who said that Zoe, a long range one shot mage with insane kill pressure, a more powerful version of a stun, constant insane damage with spell pickups in teamfights, and easy access to targets was the literally the exact same kit as Neeko which is absolutely hilarious.

It's not hard to see why he's weak. I think he's super fun but a champion who relies on using ults that by definition don't synergize as well with his kit as they do for others would always be on the weaker side. There also just isn't very good mage bruiser itemization but that's been talked to death so everyone knows, meaning he has to build full tank where he is useless unless ahead or go almost full damage where he dies way too fast.

His W and E having like 7 second long cooldowns with 40% CDR max rank means he can only get them off once per fight, and that's honestly just the nail in the coffin. If the game wasn't one shot fest he'd be better.

Illabethe4 votes

Honestly? Meta champs are driving him down to 50% at best. He's got an overpowered kit, but the most toxic meta champs which generally are class killers, are religiously snuffing out any lead he creates.

For example, MasterYi dies to him early game, but after some point in the game, Yi just starts mowing him down.

DrMundo Can both outrun and outheal him, even when both are building similar items. After Sylas catches him 2-3 times with E, Mundo STILL gets away by a hair.

It seems like every meta champ has a better late game than him. Even with an overloaded kit.

In Other words, he's not a Tier 1 carry champ. He's maybe Tier 3 "Go with the flow champ" disguised as a Tier 1 carry champ.

But...... if nonmeta champs ever enter the meta, I'm pretty sure Sylas will be jumping 10% in his win rates, because he DOES massively counter their kits.

Fun, though I am starting to think he works best tank than AP item 3025 item 3001 item 3068 item 3157 item 3111 item 3165

i think aftershook is good on him.

Yeah, thinking that or grasp and taking him top lane. His kit seems better to lane against melees anyway with Q spam.

I prefer to go bruiser over full tank. I have a lot of success doing dark harvest/sorcery tree, but with roa and rylais as my first items. (haven't yet decided whether I prefer lich bane, gauntlet, or liandry's as item 3) This gives him enough durability to not melt immediately, without neutering his damage.

Well he is supposed to be a bruiser right so if he works better as a tank vs full ap they did a good job since if he just built full ap he would just be a assassin.

I think he's suppose to be an assassin but I don't think his kits good enough at getting in and out for the job tbh Definitely feels better tankier, at least for me.

He wasn't the balancing nightmare people kept proclaiming he would be.

the shy top1 votes

No, because his numbers aren't there. If they released him with high numbers, then of course the predictions of him being released like Aatrox Akali and Irelia are going to be true.

MLDzXnRRR2 votes

I played him top vs Jayce. i wonder how I survived and even managed to kill Jayce 2 times. maybe because I had ignite and grasp. Still, he feels super weak vs ranged champs.

Played a few more games and had Sylas on the enemy and on my team - pretty useless overall. He can be scary in melee range, but ranged champs destroy him.

Feels like he would be a solid AP tank, if there was better AP tank itemization. Maybe on Twisted Treeline he would be better, because there were such items (at least in the past - I haven't played the map in a looong time)

Haven't seen him yet because I'm banning the fuck out of that stupid shit.

worst mistake yet

His self heal is completely over powered and needs nerfed. Otherwise, awesome champion.

0 games against him or with him on my team

Then why would you comment?

OneMustFall1 votes

He has identity issues. He wants to be a carry but struggles to carry games cause he doesn't do enough damage. He's got decent utility but not good enough to be useful as a tank/support. Kind of a jack of all trades master of none which makes him kind of useless overall.

Axxuka1 votes

He's the most fun I had in a while, but it's really akward to be a burst mage and having to chain so many AAs while being melee and quite squishy for a bruiser.

Kenneky1 votes

He seems fun to play, not gonna lie, he looks like a melee range mage. But I'm not really interested of trying him now, I'll wait a bit more. In my last games most of the time I see him is on the enemy team, and it's funny to see him fail to use someones ultimate. I play Jhin a lot so I don't really worry if he steal my ultimate, he need great positioning and precision to success. I guess I can make a montage out of those fails to be honest.

Karfuss1 votes

I've been playing him as a support tank like champion, and it's been going quite well.

He seems to fit bot lane better than his intended role, and I can't think of a single support champion that has a terrible ultimate for Sylas to "borrow."

Morgana, Lulu, Soraka, Sona, Pyke, Zyra, Brand, Vel'Koz, Xerath, Ziggs, Mordekaiser, Zilean, Janna, Taric, Fiddlesticks, Lux... ALL of them are good. The worst has probably been Thresh or Tahm, and even they haven't been useless.

I mean Sylas is quite literally a balance nightmare, but I'd invite you all to play him Support if you're struggling playing him elsewhere. It works far better than it should.

SpaghettiVase1 votes

Best friend loves him. I think the heal is a little over the top, and the point and click ult steal is ridiculous. There's no way for him to fuck up a steal and the only way to avoid it is to just not be seen by him. How intuitive.

14daysuspensionk1 votes

Imo, he's pretty good at 1v1. I underestimated a Sylas earlier today with my main, (becasue I had only played against/as him like once before so I don't fully understand his gameplay just yet). He turned out to have quite a lot of resistance to damage, his E also made it easier for him to cheese me so yeah, that's what I have to say about him for 1v1s.

GFREEMEN1 votes

His stun needs to be 1.5s not 0.5s

He cant use Yasuo's Ult very easily.

This is why Yasuos Q Knockup is 1.5s

hewhodoesnotcare1 votes

boycott the jungle role. do not play it. dodge every game u get jungle. we must let riot know we hate what they have done to the jungle.

Bârd1 votes

Strong, but a mid-late game champion to be sure.

You do no damage early on, become decent at level 6, but don't really come all the way online until you have some items/levels behind you.

I look forward to the drafting mindgames he'll bring about in pro play.

Dragneels1 votes

i see people still trolling with first time sylas in ranked, legit if he's not banned no matter what position the troll gets (mid, top, support, jungle, no adc luckily) they're gonna pick him and of course int and feed 2/12 or 4/13. i guess nothing's new in season 9 huh and riot still allows people to pick first time champs in ranked. oh well.

Burns Master1 votes

Damage: Surprisingly low unless you're running electrocute.

Utility: The ult stealing is semi-effective but thats also the minds of the players. His cool downs seem really low, making him annoying to trade with despite his low base damage. The knockup feels like its forever too.

Defenses: The shield feels like it doesn't exist but the healing is really strong.

All in all, not horrible for a release champ but I expect he'll get damage buffs and healing nerfs in typical riot fashion.

Beerstein1 votes

I think I can't play Amumu anymore, or any support with a powerful ult like Sona, or champion in general whos identity revolves around their ult. He does a lot of champions ults better than they do their own ults when combined with his kit, especially ones that WERE very ult centric.

Foxynth1 votes

The W healing needs to be tweaked, absolutely. Outside of that he seems pretty tame, honestly.
