@RIOT Does RIOT have any plans for making supports less attached to marksmen?

There's clearly a highlight on attack speed/healing/shielding for supports, but why haven't we explored more avenues when it comes to buffing allies (or even debuffing enemies)?

What I mean is, why not try experimenting with abilities that increase an allies next ability to do X more damage, or ignore X armor/magic resist. Or even to steal damage/penetration from enemies to pass on to an ally. You could also add more skill expression to the kits too with tying it into other skills OR adding charges.

Here's an example:

Q: Line skill shot, hits first enemy champion and causes their next damaging ability or attack to deal 10% less damage. Lasts 3 seconds. Holds 2 charges. Caster gains a stack of -charged- up to 2.

W: AoE ground targeted ability. Grants a small amount of movement speed. If you are charged, grants 10% more damage for each charge to allies affected by W on their next attack or ability.

And look, now you have two skills that interract with each other well but aren't tied together completely, give varying levels of power based on the champions you're using it on (Draven or Syndra), and require some coordination/timing on the players part too. Also means team comps can make a difference instead of instalocking because an item is good.

Why did we get to the point where we have things like item 3504 item 3109 item 3107 item 3190, and the good support kits are those that do the same things, instead of exploring interesting ways for support players to play?

Riot really wants Marksmen+Supp to be the eternal meta sometimes. I don't even know why, is Guinsoo an Adc player?

Supp should be able to go other lanes and/or support other people. Marksmen should not be mandatory by design.

Support also needs to be able to keep up with the rest of the match. Gold generated as well as consistently being approximately 2 levels away from the rest of the game is an issue that Riot seems like it will never fix.

I feel like this is the direction they're going with supports, given that we were just given Rakan as our last support. Sure, he's still heavy on healing and shielding, but he gets a lot of his power out of his mobility and his CC, more than the shields and heals give him, in my opinion. Regardless, that's not going to stop me from building Ardent Censer until it's not broken, but he still definitely has a very different playstyle from what one would think of as a support, and I'm interested to see if Riot can keep making such interesting supports.

im not saying a radical change, but i do agree with you. ranged supports are given such an advantage through their shields n shit (like Soraka Sona Lulu Janna etc). it's not that their bad it's just that they are given such a big advantage with a low skill cap. im serious when i say an adc like Tristana can be focused by the enitre team and 1 Soraka can heal for all the damge being taken, like this W item 3107 W W W (WHEN HE IS LOW) item 3190 R W W fucking broken. i hope they shift the meta from being so botlane focused.

I mean there are some play making support just to name an few:Blitzcrank Thresh As an adc main I think the game is to easy, with rakka,janna,ect. If you make an mistake they'll just heal and shield you with item 3190 item 3107 item 3504 item 3222 item 3109 But than again supports are made just to protect the ad early and from dangers, but there should be an wide chamption selection of what kind of support they can play, some don't enjoy the e-grill support just healing and getting carry, some may want to play some sort of plays with an awsome grab/hook. /Rant

As weird as this is, I kinda wish there was some sort of mastery that allowed you to generate XP when being around a higher level character at an accelerated rate, so that roaming more actively was less punishing as support.
