Titanic Hydra on Darius...

Schàdenfreude··2 votes·4,216 views

is NOT as good as other conventional AD items on him.

The main argument for Titanic Hydra being good on Darius is the fact that with the extra auto reset, you can stack blood quicker on your opponents and yes, I do agree that is worth something. However, the part that goes to complete waste on him is the enhanced autoattacks, since the bulk of Darius' damage comes from his abilities and his autoattacks are already strong enough with Black Cleaver and other items.

Before the Hydra AD nerf, it would've been a viable item on him, since it would've added a plentiful amount of damage to his Q and other abilities. But now that it only gives 35 AD, it's not really worth getting. Black Cleaver (and even Youmuu's) is in almost every way better than Titanic Hydra on Darius. Whereas Titanic Hydra gives extra damage on his autoattacks and stacks blood faster, Black Cleaver allows you to have increased sustain in teamfights (because of cooldown reduction) and more damage (because of more attack damage gain + armor penetration).

Youmuu's is pretty much the same way minus the extra health but replaces it with a really nice attack speed steriod, which allows you to stack blood faster. The movement speed will allow you to chase enemies and and let you land your Q more easily on moving targets. It's also great for the flat armor penetration early game.

Let's now compare it to Death's Dance. With the huge amount of AD gained from Death's Dance compared to Titanic, it's already worth considering against Titanic Hydra. Combined with the cooldown reduction and very useful sustain passive, you're probably going to last longer in teamfights with the increased amount of life you are replenishing rather than the flat health you are starting with at the beginning of the fight if you go Titanic.

That said, I believe that Titanic Hydra may be good in some situations, like when you are ahead as the enhanced autoattack can allow you to blow up squishies fast. However, on even grounds or behind, it's virtually useless compared to other items since they can offer so much more in these situations. In conclusion, Titanic Hydra is an okay buy on Darius, but simply not as great as other items.

Yeah, Black Cleaver is the only damage item I get on Darius, along with the very occasional Sterak's. Darius is good with just black cleaver, he needs to be really tanky to survive the current meta.

this, this is the reason i really feel he is too powerful right now, his kit has TONS of damage packed into it with self build armor shred, and then he has a DoT bleed WHICH PROCS item 3071 ffs, and then can build all tank and not worry about a damn thing about his damage output because his ult is too much damage in one button that resets, Katarina needs a few to get her ult back, but not darius, he is designed to pentakill with item 3065 item 3071 item 3742 item 3053 item 3111 insert random tank item here.

Didn't we just get over the fact assassins shouldn't be able to have lots of damage and tank in the same bit? WHY IS DARIUS ALLOWED TO.

~oh just kite him.... item 3044 summoner 6 passive makes that irrelevant, and he has the assassin buff that his q range if hit, is shorter than e range, meaning he can pull the target if he hits the q. Can't run once he grabs you and 90% slow, you can't stop it...

Comparing darius to katarina is funny but ultimately showcases your lack of understanding.

Unlike Katarina, Darius has to kill his opponent for a reset, katarina's passive can activate by getting assists. Katarina's ultimate is also AOE whereas Darius's ultimate is single target.

Darius needs to stack opponents beforehand whereas katarina can just throw her dagger, jump in and press R right away to start doing shit.

Katarina deletes squishies way faster than darius can but of course the tradeoff is her being squishy herself.

meanwhile that point and click goes through no matter if you happen to get away from him with flash or dash,

lvl 18 with only item 3071 as ad = 191 AD

ULT: TRUE DAMAGE: 100 / 200 / 300 (+ 75% bonus AD) 20% bonus damage per stack of passive.

~600 + 37.5 (item 3071 *.75 )

~+ 67.5 x 5 ( item 3071 *.15 = 7.5 Bonus ad per stack(60))

BONUS DAMAGE PER STACK: 20 / 40 / 60 (+ 15% bonus AD)

~Q: (133.7 + 80) x 2 for blade SHAFT PHYSICAL DAMAGE: 80 ( +70% AD) doubled with blade hit

191 AD AA with + 20 damage

~E: 25% armor pen

passive Dot: (27 + 15) x 5

Lets add damages up shall we: P: 210 Q. 427.4 W +20 damage on top of aa E: 1/4 armor gone R: 637.5 + 337 from stacks

= 1631.9 + the W aa whatever that is + whatever aa's inbetween.

THAT IS NOT a level of damage that should be allowed for any champion that buys one fucking damage item not mentioning his passive steroid of +200 FREE ad on a kill, he is too much and is the reason i will forever ban his ass, you can't fight him, you just have to hope you survive him and that your other lanes get going. he can 1v2 easily with how his q gives him all the hp he ever needs, and how item 3071 gives him the ability to kill any tank and item 3742, summoner 6 passive on BC, and e makes it so he never has a hard time reaching his target or being kited.

For starters, assassins are a lot more mobile than bruisers like Darius. The latter has to run up to you to do damage, while assassins blink in and back out. Assassins building tanky more or less eliminates the risk involved in playing them, which should not be a thing. Champions like Darius, Garen, Trundle, Udyr, Olaf, and so on, don't have a choice but to build tanky, as they're going to take a lot of damage just trying to get in.

If you hate him now, release Darius would have made you uninstall.

but what do all those champions lack compared to darius? free armor shred, DoT on aa's, AOE low cd damage that heals for completely STUPID levels, c'mon please tell me who thought 12% missing hp PER CHAMP when item 3065 exists...

Gangplank 15% missing hp and removes all cc High CD and no combat stats, item 3065 is iffy on him Darius 12-36%, low cooldown, combat stats, HIGH ones at that, waveclear, and can double damage if hit with the axe head ,item 3065 is a must... LIKE, really? this is fair?

But my biggest beef is that you can't fight darius, you can't trade with him, and he never has a weak point of the game. His DoT and damage supersedes any trade you could do with him outside ranged champs, which beyond Gnar are so squishy that they will pop easily when they misstep once and are useless the rest of the time. Kayle is a great counter to him, but kayle is a niche pick now a days, and kinda risky if your team needs a tank.

but the fact is, I WANT someone to tell me how to deal with a darius, because everyone can say he's not a problem but refuses to say how to deal with him, his kit deals with 2v1 hard, so jg assistance is great until he turns and murders the jg that is weaker than the laners. I want to know how to beat him because i am sick of his BS kit, at this point it is sit under tower and hope my lanes get fed and we only have to keep him off the carries.

Try playing darius into Riven and tell me that melees can't fight him. A good Renekton can give you hell pre-6 as well.

well seeing as riven when understands the kit perfectly and mechanically can execute everything well, is almost impossible to stop, but on top of that, if there is a champion that can only be countered by the 2 aboved champions, then there is a severe problem with balancing to the game. but once again, preople glaze over with simple fixes, no itemization against him, no tactics to bait his abilities, ways to turn battles, just play x/y abuse there combos and win....

Trundle post-6 can press R, create his frozen terrain, and freely bash darius's fucking face in while the impetus to micro perfectly rests on darius.

Jax can outplay darius throughout all stages of the game.

Didn't we just get over the fact assassins shouldn't be able to have lots of damage and tank in the same bit? WHY IS DARIUS ALLOWED TO.

Because Darius is not an assassin and is not balanced like one. Read his profile.

Darius is a Fighter/Bruiser/Juggernaut class, he is built to be tanky while also doing enough damage to be scary if ignored. Having strong base damages that allows him to fill the rest of his slots with durability items is his INTENDED style.

That style is NOT intended for Assassins because the class is meant to be "light and agile" in feel, darting in and out of combat to kill before enemies can lock the down. Stacking durability on Assassins goes against their design, but it goes WITH Darius'.

Woodakoodashooda1 votes

Darius cannot afford to go full AD because of his lack of mobility and attack speed. He needs to be outfitted with defenses in order to stack his passive and unless he can tank an enemy long enough to do so then he will be reduced to a standing target. Darius needs an early gold lead over his lane opponent in order to perform optimally all throughout. A Darius that struggles in lane is a detriment to the team. A Darius that performs well early is a threat that must be immediately recognized by the enemy and neutralized.

Schàdenfreude1 votes

I totally agree with you. Usually, the only offensive item I get on Darius is Black Cleaver, and then go straight tank. If I get even two offensive items I tend to get blown up really quickly. I also agree with the fact that Darius needs a early gold lead over his opponent in order to do well.

Deaths Dance is actually really good against burst (which darius faces a lot of the time mid-late game) and it severely strengthens his decimate healing and heals off of everything that is bleeding and of course makes him heal on his AA and crippling strike. The 10% CDR is really good and the bonus AD feels amazing since everything darius does has ad scaling.

I ran deaths dance as part of my build all the way up to platinum 1 and I still run it. It is easily the premier AD item for darius outside of maybe steraks gage.

The inherent cc in your kit should be sufficient. It'd be better to go a tank item like randuins omen if you really feel that you need more stickiness.

if u want an ad item on darius. i'd go for either death dance or trinity force. huge W procs

Spoofghoul1 votes

triforce 100% the sheen procs are beautiful lots of cdr too, rage passive

oh and a ton of as to stack passive

it's probably the best singular offensive item on darius since he already gets free pen anyway

hOrnn1 votes

trinity has always been good on darius, but not point in getting it and cleaver

vs squishy teams trinity is a better buy over cleaver, 40% attackspeed and sheen procs, darius always has free armor penn and true damage, vs tanky teams ofc cleaver all day.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votes

true. i see your point.

i think the best 2nd ad on darius is ghostblade.

Spoofghoul1 votes

item 3047 item 3078 item 3069 item 3065 item 3742 + situational item

Works very well good mobility to get into fights sheen procs for extra damage attackspeed to gain passive good defense & regen and max cdr

end with item like randuins or perhaps an early sunfire or anything else you might need like frozen mallet

this build for me fixes 2 biggest problems for darius, namely mobility to get to target, getting the passive up with attackspeed.

Passive gives 200 ad and you already have % armorpen between all that the bleeding and true damage nuke you should be fine damage wise

I like to run this with stormraiders surge which works nicely with your passive and ult to keep on dunking once you get your first one in.

although i havent played darius in a long time this is how i would build him right now

Lovelle1 votes

item 3748 This item definitely could use a change. Right now, it's better on melee carries/assassins than it is on champions that it was originally intended for. It also has a really inconvenient build, as sitting on new Tiamat and a Ruby crystal for half the game is how a bruiser/tank falls behind.

It's in this really weird spot where you either rush it or build it last. Sion's compatibility with the item is better than anyone and even he barely builds it.

Actually, most assassins have things like DoT on aa's, %hp damage, and grievous wounds for finishing off targets. Darius is supposed to be like a tanky assassin, similar to Illaoi. He also tends to have a hard time dealing with kite and hard CC, just like most assassins do. Try playing champions with hard CC more often and you'll see that Darius is far more manageable than champs like Ekko and Yasuo.

"tanky assassin"

Inherently flawed assumption since darius thrives in prolonged combat scenarios while assassins thrive in short burst trades.

The only time darius can quickly delete people is when he walks into a fight late and happens to get a dunk on someone who is already low for noxian might.

In a 5v5 setting where both teams start at max hp, darius isn't going to burst anyone down, he's going to rely on consistent stacking and decimate heals to keep him alive long enough to get that noxian might proc.

You're right. I shouldn't have said that. Either way, he's not as bad as some people make him out to be. Hard CC and grievous wounds shut him pretty hard. He pretty much scales on the carelessness of his opponents. On 3v3 he is pretty strong, I'll give you that, but there's no excuse for just letting him do what he wants on Summoner's Rift. You should have more than enough CC and disengage on your team to keep him in check.
