Invasion: Onslaught NERF

Has anyone beat onslaught yet? Ive lost 3 games already all around the 2nd or 3rd round. I am doing fine but the sheer numbers of the vel coming out all at once is the thing that kills my teams every single time. its only the swarm of vels that give my games issues. Idk what it is. I think it needs nerfing.

A lot of it is too random, had 1 game where our first draw was that Cho/Kog level. Omg, we only got through it because Poppy kited them around the map, slowly rezzing people so they could plink them, die, kite, rez, plink, die, kite, rez, plink. It was a nightmare and I spent almost all of it dead, I can only imagine Poppy.

It's ridiculous, and then to top it off you have to play with not just premades but 5 man premades? So sorry I play during the day and don't have any actual friends that play. Also, who the hell wants to try to schedule and wrestle 5 people through 1 game, let alone the 4-5 WINS necessary to get all those missions done. Riot are on some fucking drugs if they think this is a good idea. The only positive is that at least I don't have to buy the rights to do the missions.

Yeah, it's bullet hell meets MMO raid... but we only have a few weeks before it disappears, along with the missions (which need changing).

SHSL Support9/7/2017, 7:41:56 PM15 votes

There's just too many, its impossible to stop them.

DemainaNyx9/8/2017, 12:04:32 AM10 votes

Yes, I've managed to beat it twice actually. I beat it as Soraka and Janna, both times with Ardent Censor first buy and Stoneborn Pact.

Biggest thing is coordinating the team. Vel'koz and Kog'maw should be first priority. Kog is a little easier to deal with cause you can kite him after he spawns and silence/knockup to halt his damage. Vel is just a pain and needs to be focused, especially the laser ones.

The only sets I've had a problem with are the ones with the shooting galleys Vel'koz at the end with the moving circle and the small bridge one. The others aren't that difficult so long as people stay together and take out the important targets.

meowwow79/7/2017, 7:55:11 PM7 votes

too many and too high amount of stats since quite literally most of the things can either keep your team chain cc'ed like cho or rek destroy them instantly like kog or vel or yet make the round alot longer than needed like khazix

Executioner9/7/2017, 7:47:27 PM7 votes

I made it to the 5th level, legit hell.

won 3 games in a row. Just need to do the Hard Missions now.

6 games total onslaught.

Veltox9/8/2017, 1:34:48 AM7 votes

Oh c'mon, you want Riot hold your hand on a gamemode that's supposed to be kind of challenging?

OtterlyLost9/8/2017, 3:49:16 AM6 votes

My thing is that the amount of gold they give you to start out with is pretty measly and the amount you get after each round is awful. :/ I kind of wish that everyone got a little bit of gold for every kill/assist during the level because it makes it really hard to itemize as an ADC in this mode. I end most games, win or loose, with maybe three completed items, one of them NOT even being boots. I've literally taken to just selling my boots to try and get as much gold into damage items as I can and I still only might get three completed ones.

Cavesloth9/7/2017, 11:54:50 PM6 votes

I haven't made it past bullet hell either. Honestly think its impossible outside of a coordinated 5 man group of skilled players. Nice of Riot to say fuck you to all their solo and low elo players all at once. Riots elitism at its most obvious.

FutureCreator9/7/2017, 11:03:01 PM5 votes

Just get rid of the annoying debuff everyone has slapped on. Especially the "reduced MR" part, which allows vel koz ot oneshot you

Fondling Gems9/7/2017, 9:57:21 PM5 votes

I managed to do it on my 3rd try. I believe we did it with MF doing all the damage, full tank poppy to soak damage (Specifically the Vel attacks), and Lulu, Janna, and Soraka to keep everyone alive with 2 or 3 redemptions.

The enemies die so quickly that damage isn't all that important, MF can take care of pretty much everything by herself, especially if she rushes a bloodthirster or the like. The lifesteal scales down but the shield is really useful and between all the supports she should have enough shields on her to lifesteal through it regardless.

For the Vel level the trick is to have everyone try and stand in a line with Poppy at the front and Soraka/MF in the middle. (Line in the direction the bolts are traveling, so when they split they don't hit allies) Poppy and whomever is in the back should be trying to block all the bolts, Poppy should be able to tank them all with occasional shields just fine and Soraka can keep the support in the back alive along with their own shields. When you get near the end just make a dash for the portal, don't bother with the vel, you move on to the next level as soon as you touch it, even without the protective circle being there.

With poppy at the front blocking about 70% of the Vel bolts the actual threat of that stage is pretty minimal, especially if you drop a redemption down part way through.

I played on pbe for a whole month and beat onslaught numerous times. You just have to have a good team and strategy. The levels change up a bit each time. Swap up ur builds. Try new masteries. Do what you can. You can beat it. It doesn't need to be nerfed, once you win, you will keep winning and eventually get tired of it trust me.

My Waifu Vanilla9/8/2017, 3:22:19 AM3 votes

I beat it on the first try we did it (we did the "easier" mode once first). We were doing the "Burn Bright" mission and got it fairly easily, but it is VERY RNG based whether or not you can clear it. Honestly, the chain CC is my only real problem with the game mode since Rek'sai can and WILL chain CC you to death. Also, champions like Syndra are VERY bad for the game mode making them almost a detriment to the team when compared so Lux (Lux has much more useful CC and the shield). It'll arguably take time to figure it all out (which is fine since you do have 2 weeks), but I do not like the amount of RNG involved in the levels since some levels are near impossible with some comps (the payload style ones are very hard with little to no healing) while also ridiculously easy on others (the one with the like 7 Kog'Maw's spawning on top of each other is a joke for champions like Lux/Janna). I understand each level should have variance to it, but I don't see how you are ever supposed to do the payload style ones if you are going for the "no support" mission since there are usually 5+ Vel'koz's shooting you from off screen and Rek'sai just spamming tunneling (which you can't stop without Poppy/Janna who are both "unavailable").

Żügżwäng9/8/2017, 7:12:15 AM3 votes

I managed to beat it once (after about 4 tries) with a mostly random team of decently skilled players. I like that it's challenging since normal was way too easy.

That being said, I don't like how these missions force you to do very specific things on onslaught. Let us get the rewards on either mode, and let people who want to challenge themselves play onslaught, either that, or remove some of the ridiculous restrictions (premade 5 being a major one).

You need to coordinate with your team, roam the map and take out important areas (such as when velkoz bunch up around)... clean them up to make the map easier. When giant cho's spawn, have ur team kite and focus. In the bullet hell, just survive til near the end then shield one player to flash forward and run to the end. For the final boss, roam around and fight by pillars, clearing mobs before focusing boss..

Even with all of these points it's still super hard.

I think they should either make the mode easier, or better yet, remove some restrictions from the quests.

Black Fox9/8/2017, 12:29:36 AM3 votes

While some people can beat it occasionally, it's still a difficult game mode to those playing with randoms and/or for those who may not be as skilled with the champs/game.

I've played it a few times with some of my more skilled friends and we managed to win a bit, but I can definitely see how this mode is impossible for those who might not be used to playing those champs. I'm also not that great at the game so it's no fun for me at all :/

Also idk if anyone else has been lagging a bit towards the end of a few rounds where it's a huge mess? It's probably because there's so much going on at once.

Just Blame Jenny9/8/2017, 8:07:29 AM3 votes

It's pretty tough, yeah. I've managed to get the end boss pretty low, but have yet to beat him. Then again, I've only tried a few times.

One thing I've noticed is that lifesteal is super OP in this mode. Provided you don't get bursted down by CC-chains, you can pretty much sustain forever. Your clear may not be that fast compared to a standard AD build, but you'll make it through the maps.

Jinx rocks this particularly well. BotRK > Bloodthirster as your starting items gives you a decent splash of attack speed, AD, and insane sustain. Her passive helps shore up the weaknesses you'd normally encounter with this kind of build, since it's up pretty well constantly.

Get gud

Bishasaurus Flex9/7/2017, 7:45:32 PM3 votes

I have the same issue haha but we'll get it. I think that MF, Lux Janna and Poppy are the best 4. Need lots of AoE dmg. I don't think it needs to be nerfed but I think there should be more health buffs or a natural health regen

Naribelle9/8/2017, 5:42:11 AM3 votes

I've lost almost 20 at this point, that shit iss straight bullet hell, I haven't been able to get to the final boss once yet, only to the level before it and lose there every time. There is entirely too much crap happening at once for 5 people to beat that. They tried, and its a fun game mode IN THEORY, but NOTHING is fun when its unwinnable, and if my fellow Bronze-Silver skill level players are having as much trouble as me, that's like 80% of the playerbase who can't play this damn game mode. I REALLY want that ward skin but its not worth this headache. If they changed the amount of gold you get per level, if nothing else, that would be a HUGE help. Even as Poppy, I just cant get tanky enough to survive.

Unicr0n NidAaz9/8/2017, 12:37:10 AM3 votes

BY THE WAY skarner is NOT a void creature, gtfo skarner.

SIayton9/8/2017, 7:29:54 AM2 votes

Only thing that needs some tuning is the Velkoz ults IMO. They do so much damage up front and you can't really react to them. Sometimes you get put into situations where it's just bad RNG and you're forced to eat it and die with no counter play.

Other than that, it's not bad. Just.... way too RNG based on if you get boss velkoz's or not.

Mizaya9/7/2017, 8:25:53 PM2 votes

Lux is good against them when they stand in a line, you just have to make it to them without dying

shicky979/8/2017, 1:37:46 AM2 votes

I beat onslaught first try playing as Poppy, and from my experience, if your team doesnt have a Poppy on it, you are in some hot water unless you are all very good at dodging. Poppy is the only proper tank in the star guardian lineup (I'm not gonna count warmog's Soraka), and without her to meatshield and CC for your team, things get difficult quickly. So basically, play Poppy, buy warmogs/Iceborn gauntlet and take stoneborn pact as your keystone, then CC every enemy you can to get those sweet stoneborn heals rolling, and if you ever get chunked low, focus on dodging and kiting until your warmog's heals you back up. Hope I helped at least a little.

Blackstone019/8/2017, 6:46:45 AM2 votes

It's entirely luck based. I cleared it once so far, you have to get lucky and not get any vel'koz during the "get to the end" portion, or if you do have everybody good at dodging lasers/projectiles. It's especially bad during the boss fight, where you can get ultimate vel'kozs and swarms of chos stun locking you.

I don't really want a nerf... think that's just me though

rtbf2256182419/8/2017, 4:25:54 PM2 votes

I beat it using Poppy. She's critical to defeating that mode.

I have no clue how i'm going to do it with the SG teams.

xydra229/8/2017, 7:45:30 PM2 votes

Its challenging, not impossible. I won my 4th game. Having a tank for the bullet hell levels is important. get an adaptive helm, it works really well.

MutatedBread9/9/2017, 1:29:04 PM1 votes

I spent 12 hours playing with a 5 man pre-made, I won 1 game... BRUH

GambitR1sk9/9/2017, 2:48:57 PM1 votes

Ive beat the game many times but when it comes to the stupid quest you cant do shitt. Most of the people dont know how to play or know whats important about the quest. Which makes it frustrating and building a team of people is super hard since people get frustrated, dont understand the basics, have their time schedules, dont know how to play the characters, and dont know why we have to use certain characters. Its a fun game but when it comes to the quest (team) aspect. Impossible

We just finished the Mode with S+. I hope Riot wont nerf it. We had a lot of fun to improve our itembuilds and playstyle.

We took ppl out of the forum, since me and my mate have no premades, that are able to do this mode. :( (they didnt want to tryhard it)

I guess u can get your missions easy as a Gold elo player, just check youtube for guides and try. :)
