Frozen Mallet thoughts?

Frozen Mallet is basically my go to item for almost any champion with no CC, particularly when ahead early, otherwise I tend to go for it very late. I feel like the soft CC is super powerful to snowball an early lead by making it harder for opponents to get away. Yes, there's red buff, there's also chilling smite, but I think when possible skirmishers is just a lot more powerful, especially if you get into 1on1 jungle matches which will also secure that early game.

I realize Frozen mallet is super expensive, but I feel like the utility if you can even out stats with opponents and have it on top really just secures wins with champions lacking in CC. So far I generally just get strange looks when doing it. Of course, I don't think it needs to be said how useful the health is, early particularly against burst champions. It's a secondary reason I like getting it when taking an early lead, as it allows me to prevent giving the enemy team bounties and using that money to pay my team back for any lead I may have had.

Anyways, haven't played much in years, just getting back into things. What are peoples thoughts on Frozen Mallet? As you can see, I've been grabbing it on AD champs with no CC like Yi and Nidalee. Was also grabbing it on Xin though.

Frozen Mallet is basically a way-ahead buy to noob-stomp.

If the enemy doesn't realize you can beat them, and so they 'try' to fight it out, then realize they're going to lose, they find themselves unable to run. Against players who fully respect your strength and competently avoid losing situations, it will be an expensive buy that damages (or cripples) the lead you may have.

I thought that may be the case, I'm not exactly a good player, where I play sometimes I get situations like this where I essentially get 2 free kills due to poor enemy positioning (lux+singed). So for now, it's acting as a good tool not just for secures, but for keeping me from dropping my bounties. https://gfycat.com/FrayedImpartialKissingbug

What about late game?

It's basically the same thing late game. It benefits you heavily against players who don't know to avoid shitty situations, or you can catch out. However the usefulness drops dramatically as your enemies become better, because they'll recognize and avoid such situations far more often.

It will net you kills even against good players; there just isn't enough vision in the game anymore to be sure that EVERY bush is empty, so someone will INEVITABLY walk into one with you. However it's generally going to not be reliable enough once you go against better people.

I'd argue that Trundle, and Trundle alone, might be an exception to this rule. He's just as capable of murdering tanks as he is squishies (due to ulti), and while he doesn't have dashes he is difficult to escape from with his W, E, and Q. Mallet puts him at a sort of Zenith where once he starts autoing something, unless it can dash over a wall, it will never escape him.

From an offensive standpoint, Duskblade is a superior option.

Greater damage, ward clearing, and temporarily slows an enemy if you don't insta-jib them.

Thanks, I haven't really researched all these new items, this item makes "Eyeball collection" seem a lot more appealing.

Which options if you don't mind? I just realized that at some point I need to transition into more standardized builds with this as more of a situational fallback.

Depends what champion you are playing and wut the team comps are.. Mallet is a luxury option for pretty much everyone outside of Gnar. I think for yi, if you are going onhit, mallet is perfectly fine.. As someone else mentioned, it's good if u are stomping, but if you are in a close game or even behind.. It's subpar to build.

champions who use it well are pretty rare. I use it when i play off-meta tank-supports, but almost never otherwise.

I really love the item, on paper I would have thought it was generally good on juggernauts, but most of the time its just too expensive.
