Did Riot ever specify WHY they removed DFG
Apologies if i'm mistaken but Riot never really gave an actual reason for removing DFG that i can recall. Just wondering what people can bring to light about it, just miss that hilarious veigar dfg combo

Yes.
Just that. Hilarious Veigar combo. They didn't want to make burst that one shot champions one shot them better. They didn't want sustained damage champs turn into burst because of DFG. Champs like Ahri and LeBlanc already can destroy champs (Not ahri anymore) but with DFG, annihilated them.
It was for basically that exact reason. It was giving additional nuking power to people who already had more than plenty of it (Veigar and Leblanc namely) on top of the huge AP boost and CDR. It was basically morphed into Luden's Echo, which combines elements of Statikk Shiv and Lich Bane.

Yes. They removed it because they had tried to nerf it, but found out that their significant reductions to its power had little to no effect on its viability. They decided, essentially that they could not keep the item in the game without changing it so much that it no longer filled the same space as the item did when it was still in the game. So they took it out and replaced it with a different top end power item.
