standard builds on a mage is : item 3165 item 3020 item 3151 item 3135 item 3089 item 3157

the rest of items for most mages are not so relevant to use in time this build can : 1 shot targets , apply grevious wounds , being untargetable for some period of time .

with few exceptions of champions buying : item 3146 item 3152 item 3030item 3285

Not that different for any class though. Most (viable) bruisers go item 3071 item 3748 item 3193 or item 3071 item 3748item 3026 ADC are prettymuch all item 3031 item 3087 item 3094 Jungle tanks item 1409 item 3193 item 3190 item 3083 ....

Overall, each class, or atleast each champion, has a rather stale optimal builtpath with only small variation and usually fix first 2-3 items that only might vary in order. Over the last years, riot actively just gets rid off alternate builts, removeing hybrid scaleings and other synergie with 'off' builts, and the class itmisation usually just allow for small variation(like which zeal item to get) with rather minimal impact. The fact that games usually are decided by the time you get your 3ed full item(or befor that) doesn't halp either given that the first 2-3 items usually are core and thus have even less room for variation.

Same could be said about all other classes as well like how ADC is basically item 3031 item 3087 item 3094 and one of the item 3035 items. Yes some ADCs are lethality users so they build those items, like some Mages are more mana stacking and they build item 3040 item 3027 etc. Every class has a build that fits for their class and is basically the "one and only build" for most of the champions in that class.

The only real difference is that most of the other classes at least has a lot better options so they could switch it up if they really wanted to. Mages really only have item 3165 that is amazing and item 3135 item 3151 that is pretty good, and the rest of the items are honestly "meh" or worse or would be considered niche and won't fit every mage.

item 3301 Janna Sona Alistar Soraka Lulu Taric Thresh Blitzcrank Rakan item 3301

Honestly I couldn't care less.

Best princess EU1 votes

Hahahahahaha

coin on blitz alistar and thresh lmfao

chipndip15 votes

Coin's been played on just about everyone in solo queue and pro play. There's no one it's legit bad on.

Best princess EU1 votes

being bad on, and being a 100% requiered item like morello is not even CLOSE to be the same there are over 1000 thresh and blitz otp in master tier and above

go and teach them to buy coin instead of targon, and make us laugh

DuskDaUmbreon2 votes

Thresh is using it now because it gives as much gold as Shield, and takes less effort to use.

Best princess EU1 votes

No he doesn't http://euw.op.gg/champion/thresh/statistics/support

shield has 88% pick rate+49% win rate coin has 5% pick rate+46% win rate

coin is beyond garbage on thresh, it doesn't give him the sustain of shield that he lacks of since his kit has no sustain it doesn't give him the insane tankiness of shield

it's bad

DuskDaUmbreon2 votes

It gives him the AoE speed boost, it gives his allies speed towards him, it gives mana and health regen, it gives him armor...

And it gives about the same amount of gold.

I'm gonna point out that Coin is currently usually taken on Thresh in lower tiers, however, so that probably skews the results.

...I just love how those numbers mean that 7% of Thresh supports are taking Spelltheif's Edge. That's actually kinda hilarious.

I would take it to be honest. You are going to be auto'ing people a lot so it would get you a fair amount of gold. The main reason you take targons over everything else is because you have like 18 base armor so the flat hp will give you the sorely missed tankiness to survive lane. Coin is generally something I'd rather have because of the end item but targons is just better for early on.

If you don't buy it YOU LOSE GOLD. LITERALLY. YOU WILL EARN MORE GOLD WITH COIN 100% OF THE TIME.

I'm more concerned about the sorcery rune transcendence being viable on every single class except for mages. CDR was originally meant as a means to help the mage class scale into mid and late. Now almost all 10 champions in the match hit 40% CDR relatively early in the match and some classes even have their potential builds stifled by how stupidly easy they overcap CDR. The one class the stat was primarily designed for originally is the one that has the most trouble hitting the cap, and is also the one that benefits the least from the CDR rune in the mage tree of runes. THAT'S a build problem.

Anyway, as for mage items. The problem is that mages have no options. The standard mage build is built on everyone, and it's also extremely good and serviceable. Void staff is a one stop shop for pen, you'd never get any other boots than sorc shoes because you're so squishy tabi or mercs are just wasted slots, morello's is your AP, CDR, Mana, and GW to top you off, Dcap is your loads of damage item, then Liandry's rounds everything out because it's the only flat mpen option.

If you want to diversify mage builds first you have to diversify mage items. The fact that we still haven't meaningfully differentiated mages and AP assassins is a travesty.

I miss you DFG

Marksmen rarely, if ever, hit even 20% CDR, unless they specifically opt into Lethality or Essence Reaver. Most often, you see 0%. The only meta way for them to cap is Essence Reaver (with a Zeal item, of course, but that's a given) and Death's Dance.

Enchanters regularly hit 55%, given how much goddamned CDR they have in everything. There's just no way to escape it as a real enchanter.

Tanks can hit between 10 and 50%, depending on who they are, and what they need at the time.

Juggernauts hit about 40%. Sometimes 50%. Although I've seen them at only 20%.

Mages generally hit about 35%. 45% on the dot if they pick up both Banshee's and Zhonya's, on top or Morello.

Tank supports had 10-20%, last time I checked. But that could have gone up quite a bit recently.

Bruisers tend to have quite a bit. 30% is common.

Assassins have a largely varying amount. 30-45% is possible for an AD assassin, while you can have a meager 10-25% on an AP assassin.

Skirmishers have...quite a big variance. Someone like Yasuo gets none, while Riven opts into a solid 30-40%.

Mages honestly don't cap any more or less often than the average. They're actually the average. 35%.

Ok sure but why1 votes

mages don't buy item 3089

they instakill adc's without it anyways

SchmidttyGames1 votes

item 3115 catches me a lot of grief in Mid. I don't really know why people freak out about it when I buy it on any bursty mage that gets reduced to auto-attacking after expending their kits. As a "bottom laner", I am used to swinging autos around. Nashor's tooth is savage in this regard and still grants 80AP + 20%CDR. Combined with a Morello's I can proceed to buy pure cancer without worrying about CDR at all (Ludens, Liandry's, Deathcap, ect.)

People would be more willing to experiment if they weren't threatened with being reported the moment they try to flex their creativity.

Teemo Did 9111 votes

well my friend , depends on which champion you buy it actually :) if you buy it on teemo is pretty useful , but buying it on syndra in my opinion is not that relevant , as syndra can deal big damage without it ! :)

SchmidttyGames1 votes

The three champions I build it on in Mid: Orianna (Rush against Katarina/Zed/Fizz), Syndra (Second after Morello, only when against heavy divers), and Janna (Yes that Janna). Orianna, for obvious reasons, synergizes with Nashors anyway (Clockwork Windup) and it really helps me even trades against the teleporting divers that often dodge her ball or do something to make me expend it.

Teemo Did 9111 votes

well , might it useful on oriana because of her passive actually

SchmidttyGames1 votes

In her case specifically it also really helps you when your opponent is playing well and making you miss your skillshots. Ori has a nasty scaling to her AA's thanks to Clockwork Windup anyway and Nashors only makes her toss junk like her father used to.

I'm a "bottom laner", so I'm used to fighting with AA's anyway. But when I see a Mid build Nashors on any AP mid, I understand why. They feel like they can still win lane with just AA's. Some players let you AA them to death and don't even realize it.

Champion Skin1 votes

item 3115 is only 20 less AP and 100 more gold compared with item 3165

So it is fine if you don't run out of mana and the 50% attack speed and on-hit damage can most certainly make up for the damage lost from having 20 less AP if you get in some AAs

Vlädïmïr1 votes

Meanwhile I voidstaff rush on Vlad.

Mawootad1 votes

I've found that new runes actually help that quite a bit. You still want to build void staff on every single mage as part of your full build outside of some extreme edge cases cause that item is busted, but transcendence means that all the excess cdr you get from items like banshees, cdr boots, spooky ghosts, zhonyas, etc now looks really good no matter what other items you have.

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

A by product from the rest of their items being nerfed so hard in the past; what games last long enough to reach full build anyway?

every class does that why are mages special?
