There are absolutely no RIOT rules of what items support suppose to have. I play OneTrickZilean. All 5 Zilean abilities are designed to support by default yet if i don't buy some desirable items sometimes I am being accused of being "troll". As for Zilean, CDR and AP are way more impactful than any normal support items.

Because his dps is really bad, early game probably even worse than Janna's. In general his abilities are for support, not fighting. You can't really play Zilean as 1v1 effectively.

Zilean is played mid in high elo and competitive. He is weak as a support. You arent taking it mid for 1v1, but for lane control
As Zilean support this is what your build should usually look like

Exactly, that's why you need AP/CDR items for the same reason for Zilean as support too.
Imperial Pandaa1 votesThen take Bond of Stone. That way your slow and stun heal your team. Invest in an Ardent Censor and Redemption. AC has cdr and ap and your cc will heal and proc the effect. Redemption will proc it too. Consider spellthief line and getting the Eye of Whatever that combines Spellthief with SS. That is 3 items 2 which give you ap and I think 30% cdr. Now you have 3 slots for whatever damage you want. Zilean would fight better in the jungle since his bomb would block a corridor.

Nah, he legit takes Zilean bot, gets coin, takes farm, builds Rod of Ages, Lich Bane and Morello, keeps his ADC starved ,barely puts any wards.

Shouldn't be worry about that too much. As Zilean OTP i got to over 1700 elo on another account. In low leagues investing to wards is more wasting of money than being helpful. Dudes would suicide regardless if there is vision or not. Another reason, Zilean sux in jungle fights and since I don't go to jungle myself i don't feel inclined spending money on warding it.

According OP.GG I hit Plat 4 elo, though my average on main acc is bouncing between 1500-1700.

Sincarnation1 votesZilean isnt really a great support, but as long as you get a sight stone on him yeah stack AP and CDR. His kit has ZERO synergy with the current support items. He doesn't heal or shield, and can't tank. His only option is damage and CDR. Don't build, RoA on supports and dont buy lich bane on zilean.

Zilean's Passive allows you to give exp to an ally to level up, ZIlean also gets xp.
Mordekaiser has a passive on his... w? that when he kills a unit he get full amount of xp.
One of Mordekaisers problems is he is easy to kite. So what if he lanes with Zilean? Zil could speed him up or slow the enemy down and in theory get him 2 levels higher than enemy early on.

Because bad players will die no matter what, they have no sense of micro/macro and vision is not decisive factor for the outcome. Wards do not protect from YOLO mentality.
