No, the Ivern buffs are not enough.

This meta is almost entirely dominated by early game jungle pressure. Pre 15 minute jungle ganks decide most games at both the casual -and- pro level.

So sure, Ivern is a bit stronger now, but his ganking patterns are still some of the worst in the game. His root skill-shot is incredibly slow while being short in range, and it is his sole source of engage. Unlike other relatively slow shot-range skill-shots, the payoff that Ivern gets for landing his root is incredibly low. Elise, for example, gets a full stun for 1.5 seconds, not to mention her rappel ability offers her a much easier time landing this, as it allows her to get in close.

Sure it can allow a thresh or Leona to dash on top of the enemy, but in a lane without a hard engage tank it can get the lane you are ganking for killed as easily as the person you are ganking. Especially considering it is really easy to take the root's dash on accident with mages casting targeted spells, and marksmen dont have a choice. There is nothing quite like watching your Viktor top take the root into Darius's grab.

Ivern needs more early game tools. Sure his clear is relatively quick, but there is a massive difference between a Ivern coming out of the brush level 4 and a jax, xin zou, or graves coming out of the brush at level 4. His kit was designed to farm up to the mid-game and buff a hyper carry. None of the hyper carries are meta right now and since Riot has spent most of this season gutting the support class like a freshly killed cow with nerf after nerf, even if the hyper carries WERE in the meta, Ivern would still be falling short.

Make his Q a stun, or make it faster. Give it a longer range. Give his E a longer cast range and a shorter duration if you have to. Have a unique interaction with Ivern's Q so that Daisy either pops out faster, or knocks-up as she pops out in order to give him a combo. Because as it stands the Q R E combo is extremely lackluster in terms of crowd control. Ivern relied pretty heavily on windspeakers blessing before the run rework and as it stands the only keystone that fits him is aery which has been nerfed into oblivion (Because Riot really hates support players).

Ivern's problem isn't how much damage he's doing. Its his lack of real utility, especially when his team is behind.

The meta (early/midgame snowball) is very likely to change a lot when pre-season 9 hits. Ivern is just not very strong in this early skirmish/scuttle meta for jg since he can't duel at all, but if they buff him too much and the meta changes back to a slower meta where enchanters are stronger he'd end up being too strong and needing nerfs.

I think he might be a lot better, if your some of your allies from any lanes take Shield Bashing (assuming Shield Bashing goes through). Making your ganks more threatening. If not then well, it's not an issue with Ivern entirely it's the fact that this whole game is dominated and revolved around DAMAGE, something Ivern isn't really created to output so much of.

In fact, with all these patches and Riot's attempt at "reducing damage in the game" is only killing the defensive side of the game for everyone but tanks.

At this point all we can hope is that things will clear up for something else to be played during Season 9 and hope that our Green Father is going to be part of it.

I'm not sure on this, but I think he is more powerful now then most people know.

Most people just really suck at him, and team-mates don't know how to work with him.

I'm pretty sure a few high elo mains do very well on him.

It's like release Ornn syndrome.

A few dedicated people were good at him, but since the majority sucked real bad, they buffed him hard.

Then the mains are godlike.

Then the rest of the player base catches on, and actually learn to play Ornn

Then it has to be nerfed hard.....
