Very Hard Engage2 votesbecause there aren't enough combination pathways, everyone wants health/mr to counter those ap champions, but negatron cloak, rubycrystal/giants belt etc can only combine so many ways.
ap champs are weaker than ad champs, we have burst, and cc, you have more sustained damage, and often chase. so if we havn't 1hko you were often times dead in the 1v1 (except /skill)

and lets not forget that ap champs cant crit with their abilities and their auto attack are worthless so there is also 
to consider. Largest reason AD needs better and more counterbalance is when you build ad your free always availible auto attack becomes just as powerful as any of your high cost abilites, and they can come at you at 2.5 times per second..there is no max cdr that can make your ap champs use their abilites that frequently.

There are no AD items equal to Zhonyas, and thank god there isn't. ADCs don't need a defensive item that adds a lot of damage.
