Opinions on Shen rework

So as many of you may already know, Shen it reworked and many of us are satisfied but many others are not.

PLEASE ONLY VOTE ON THE POLL IF YOU HAVE PLAYED BOTH THE OLD AND NEW SHEN

So I had a question to present you guys: What do you think of the new Shen? (especially in comparison to the old Shen)

Personally I enjoyed old Shen a lot more.

Starting with his passive: before Ki Strike used to be a burst of damage that scaled with your hp and level which was very useful for bursting squishes once you dove their back line and also to healing more than usual with undying grasp. The new Passive which grants a shield everytime an ability is cast, is not a bad passive in any means but I believe this could've and just should've replaced old Shens W. Also it doesn't look too good in general seeing that Shen is a ninja and it makes it look as if he's a male Orianna with a sword

His Q, Old Shen used to use an ability called Vorpal Blade which was a targeted ranged ability which damaged the enemy, slowed them, and gave you sustain. In my opinion this is a lot better then Shens current Q. This ability gave Shen some good sustain while also slowing and damagin the enemy allowing him to pull off taunts or keep himself from being kited easily. It was also very good for harass. The new Shens Q again, isn't bad by any means but all it does is pull the new Shens passive to deal damage and a slow if hit (which it is almost impossible to hit even in team fights) and does damage on your next 3 autos. This makes it so that Shen will be very easy to kite and the only real use for it is to destroy squishies which old Shen did just fine with his old passive and kit.

Shens w. His w before was not too useful before but still could be used to block damage if he went in for a trade early. The new W is very good but the duration feels short and also I do not like how you can really only dodge auto attacks yourself seeing as you dive your back line leaving your squishies vulnerable. I believe the problem with his old w could have been easily fixed with better scaling or replacing it with new Shens passive.

His e and q are the same.

Overall I believe old Shen was much better and only a small tweak on his w was needed. What about your opinion on the new Shens

Again please only vote in the poll if you have played both new and old Shen before.

W needs changed imo

His E is not the same. His old taunt reduced incoming damage. His new taunt does not. Successfully taunt more than one Champ and you die.

Shen has no favorable match-ups in this game. No way to sustain an engage, and no way to escape an engage.

They changed his E as well? Why would they do that? I thought their intention was to have Shen be more of a dueler instead of a tank?

They should have just made this a new champion and let the old Shen be...

The reason for the rework was to Apeal to a larger audience even if it made it so that the new Shen would suck.

they may buff him but if that happens people will complain and he will be nerfed and forgotten again. IMO they should leave our good old Shen with the OG Shen players to gain our freelo

Old Shen will be missed, honestly, but it's better or Shen to be more interactive and have more damage. It lets him appeal to the much larger section of League players. With Old Shen, I could easily sit top, farm up, not really worry about aggressive champions because I could just farm at tower and taunt them if they got close. He was fairly annoying and boring to go against. It hasn't been long since new Shen has been released, and buffs can still come. Hopefully some buffs to his mr and armor, but there's always room for the damage reduction on his E and maybe something on his W which I never see a reason to level first. I like Old Shen better, but am remaining optimistic about New Shen. Playing Shen either way with no regrets.

I haven't played him ever but I have played against the new one and he seems to do way more damage but only if he hits his sword thing. If he ever misses that or gets stunned he just gets blown up in the early levels. Especially if played as support.

How often were you ever hit by the Spirit Blade? You can see it, and just never stand between Shen and the blade. His foot speed, lack of poke, and inability to trade with others doesn't let him set it up. Especially since you have to keep Q-ing to survive while farming the Blade is always next to you.

New Shen is a complete abandonment from what Shen was before. Before he was a sustain tank, who could both sustain well and tank well. Now he's just an underwhelming bruisertank hybrid who doesn't do either well. Losing the %DR from taunted targets means if you don't full combo your EQW whenever you use it you're going to die, and you'll run out of energy immediately by doing that because of the stupid 400 base energy. I'm not even sure what he's supposed to do now for a team except be a peelbot, which seems weird because he doesn't have the kit for a support either.

Shen's kit isn't weak or lackluster by any means, and people who are complaining either

  • Haven't learned how to play the champion
  • Are joining the rework hating bandwagon

I've been playing the new Shen quite frequently, and what he lost in terms of a poke, he gained in outplay potential.

He can split push a lot better, and once you get the hang of his empowered AA's, due to his Q, you'll be able to turn ganks against them when you use W to negate damage that could be caused.

To make up for lack of sustain, get undying grasp and you'll be fine. I've built tank, with either titanic hydra or rage blade, and I've done just fine. Late game, his W can stop a lot of damage from carries, which can turn team fights around.

Before you start making judgement, and say the rework is bad, try playing the champion more and actually learn about what he has to offer.

In other words, xenophobic tendencies are making people unable to enjoy the new (What I think is fun), enjoyment the Shen rework has to offer.

Just give it a shot.

I never thought about Rage Blade on him. Thanks for the tip.

As for being able to split push better, that isn't Shen. Shen used to be a sustain tank, not a split pusher. Besides many other champions are a lot better at split pushing and makes it so that there would be no reason to pick Shen over let's say Olaf.

As for outplay potential, I was able to 4v1 the enemy team full tank old Shen due to the sutain from vorpal blade and Ki strike mixed with undying grasp.

Shens old passive would've gained him much more sustain because he could use undying grasp along side with Ki strike which applied magic damage that scaled with health. Something useful and not a clunky looking Floating sword for a ninja.

As I've said, the W duration is very short and needs a buff and if it doesn't get one Shen dies almost instantly afterwards and if it gets buffed other parts of his kit (most likely his key feature, the taunt) will be nerfed to the ground

I still am playing Shen on my main and trying new things out but nothing compares to old Shen and everything feels lack luster and up. I'll probably continue playing him due to him being my second favorite champion but I doubt I'll feel the pleasure of getting a 5 man taunt and helping my team out majorly anymore

Olaf and Shen aren't the same, and Shen can sustain himself pretty decently actually. He's been remade, you should maybe experiment and see what works best. Just because he isn't the same as before, doesn't mean it's for worse. https://www.youtube.com/v/Abelirz6J_E?start=15&end=36

You're not used to the champion yet, which is why you must think the sword is clunky and not useful. If you E or position it properly, you can get the added damage proc fairly easily, or zone people if they're aware of how it works. It gives you pretty decent damage, and can win trades fairly well.

Late game, the amount of damage you can tank with your passive alone is great, and even in lane if you time it properly, it's a noteworthy amount.

W duration is fine, especially early-game, where I've played support and gotten first blood or won trades because of it. It lasts for two seconds or so, which is exactly the same as Jax's dodge. Except, Shen's is AOE, which gives it far more utility. Two seconds worth of damage is the difference between having your carry get jumped on by Zed or Rengar, and surviving or not.

You think it doesn't compare, but a few weeks from now when you have plenty of more games underneath your belt, then you can really say if he's incomparable to before.

Just don't be xenophobic, and reluctant to try new things.

And if you aren't reluctant, then don't expect the worse. It's way easier to notice the bad things about something, than the good things, and Shen's new kit has plenty to offer.

Shen's new kit just has so much in it. However it doesn't really feel rewarding to pull your blade through an enemy, but honestly I don't know if they could add anything without making him heavily overloaded.

His current passive outscales his old W, and can be timed through Q usage in an almost Identical way as his old W.

He's more combo reliant, and requires more committed aggression now though. He deals more damage, and takes almost none in return using his E -> Q -> AA -> AA -> AA combo, even throwing in a potential W. His old E --> Q -> Passive AA -> AA -> AA combo doesn't deal as much as the new one, but the trade off is that he can no longer Q -> Passive AA harass for the infrequent burst harass.

His outplay potential is going to be huge with his W, and passive. Shen's who know to sacrifice damage and keep their Spirit Blade by their team to peel with W, then pull the spirit blade, rather than just going ham and leaving your team without your 1.75s of lulautos.

Theorycrafting: One thing I want to try, is see how shields interact with Warmog's. Due to his shield, and the way it scales in an insane way, I've seen Shen take no health damage through a fight due to shield re-application. If he has Warmog's would he heal mid-fight as long as he doesn't drop a shield and take damage to his health bar? I'll have to test that one.

W feels a little lackluster, outside of that I freaking love him.

I'm very unhappy about this new Shen. So I ask this from that place of displeasure. I'm not attacking you. Do you enjoy:

  • Having no poke
  • No sustain
  • no damage reduction on your taunt
  • the ability for your opponents to literally walk away from you
  • that every other champion can kite you
  • every other champion is a hard counter to you
  • Spirit Blade is useless because it's too easy to avoid

I like the new one more. Fyi he had no slows in his kit before. As for the guy below me that said that you die if you taunt more than one person. You have a passive and your w to live.

NoPaxt3 votes

Your W stops 1-2 AAs... and has a 9 second CD. The passive requires you to keep hitting abilities. Once the 18->10 Sec CD on taunt wears off you're already dead, or they just walked away, from you zero attack range.

His old Q Vorpal Strike used to slow. Also the W has a very small duration and as you have no burst or any damage (other than a little bit from Q) you'll right after your w is down. As for your passive the shield is very small and taunting 3~ people will kill you.

I just miss the sustain honestly, outside of that, his kit feels great. The percentile health damage seems to be pretty lack luster to me, but not sure about that just yet.
