Why is there a speed cap?
So if you dont know, there is a soft movespeed cap. Why does this exist? Im genuinely curious. Anyone know?

?
Lol, idk really.
Assume there wasn't a speed cap.
Then buying Movement speed becomes the most viable strategy because it doesn't matter how much damage you deal if you can deal damage without retaliation.
Then everyone buys movements speed, and the game will never end because both teams can move around the map without punishment or reward. Both teams would have the movement speed to contest every objective, protect every turret, escape every gank, and overall stall each game indefinitely until someone messes up.
Also, keep in mind that the caps are soft caps. You can go over the caps, just buying more movement speed than the cap provides you with diminishing returns.
It has never affected me before....
They see me rollin'....
what is the cap... i think ive been janna before and had like 1k movement speed for a lil bit leaving base..... it was....awesome
As mentioned it's a soft cap: The raw speed between 415 and 490 gets multiplied by 80%. The raw speed over 490 gets multiplied by 50%.
ummm, so for clarity.... so full returns are up to 415... soft cap means a generalized decrease in returns at that point (415 up to 490) and so the hard cap then would be anything over 490 is decreased even more dramatically but stays at that level for any further increase?
are there any other soft or hard caps.... and is there some place that has collected all of these values? i heard about the 40%cdr
You can get all the details on movespeed at http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Movement_speed#Movement_speed_caps.
There is no hard cap on movement speed. There are the two soft caps i mentioned and one more on the other end (if your movement speed is sufficiently low it gets soft capped upwards). It's a piecewise linear function. (Think a line going up, connecting to another line with a smaller slope).
Other caps are:
I think that's about it for stat caps.
ty so vry much! this is so helpful and to clarify for myself....
FLAT resistance penetration = nil (0) if > resistance (armor/mr) ___ (armor/mr) reduction can cause resistance < 0
as per http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Armor_penetration
?
Yeah, technically the inequality (which i also used) is not quite correct, since reduction and %penetration are applied first... but the meaning is correct.
Penentration will increase damage only up to the point where the effective armor is zero. Reduction will increase damage even beyond this point, since the armor can be reduced less than zero.
