I just got flamed for building tank on gnar when i lost lane
Like im so confused. If you loose lane building defense is the best idea!

Hell, if you're winning lane you should still build tank on Gnar Imo
I do i never build any dmg on gnar untill i have 5 tank items and even then its iffy
Thought most people built one damage item first then five tank items. o.O
how to build gnar:
obviously.

So you're saying we should have one random Phage and an attack speed dagger?
Kay.
There's also AP Gnar mid.
and a few others.
I usually get a
and then just tank the shit out of him

I main gnar, but uhh this is my casual build when ahead... When I am against Irelia I usually rush sunfire though... so, sunfire>Brut>Omen

trinity is all you need besides that tankyness is your best friend
HOW DARE YOU. I expect you to go straight glass cannon and hard engage the enemy the second you get back to lane. It worked well the last 2 times, clearly it will work better this time.
Most people think you set yourself even further back on gold by not forging ahead with damage against a foe who has been outplaying you. They expect your positioning to improve enough not to die to the enemy's gold lead, which usually isn't realistic by the time they have that 1 or 2k gold lead.
This argument is pretty dumb all around but is somewhat valid in solo queue, in that you will never get enough concentrated ganks to catch up both the money lost from losing lane AND the money lost from building tank stats, after having lost a lane since the enemy top laner will start roaming. In an actual 5v5 where the jungler is your friend, the jungler can tell the other lanes to play conservatively while he camps yours to deny the enemy laner farm.
It's a tough call, since in solo queue if you deviate from build paths for any reason you get spammed with reports.

AND the money lost from building tank stats
This is just wrong. Money spent on tank stats is not a wasted money - especially if you play champion like Gnar, whose scalings are somewhat underwhelming (Mini-Q: 115%, Mega-Q: 120%, Mega-W: 100%, R: 20% Bonus AD (increses by half if you hit a wall)). Really, outside of his Mega-Q his abilities scale terrible (especially ultimate - you know how much Bonus AD you need in order to increase his ultimate damage by half? Exactly 1 000 bonus AD - Lee for comparison needs 150 bonus AD) and he even have 1 Health scaling ability which further increases the effectivness of tank stats on Gnar.
Also, important fact - having lower damage output but surviving long enough to deal it is better than having higher damage output but dying before you can deal it. You need to find a perfect balance here - and no, it doesn't mean that Tank stats are wasted, they are just as needed as offensive stats.
But Gnar is a tank...
People who are dumb enough to flame are dumb enough to point at anything and flame about it. I just got flamed for building tanky as jungle Reksai (Warriors and then 4 armor items), the enemy team was full AD and my team was Nami sup Liss top.
Seriously, if the kiddies get mad, they will rage about ANYTHING. Actual quote from one of them: "I bet your winrate is shit" (checks OPgg) "70% winrate? more like 70% suckrate nub!"
Then whoever flamed you is a dumbass, period.
He doesn't know how Gnar's supposed to function.
I've gotten flamed for building sight stone on a mid laner, by the support, who wasn't warding
Sightstone is core on my nidalee builds. Idk why people dont understand that wards can = kills
I was playing Nidalee at the time too
The problem with the "build defensively when behind and offensively when ahead," isn't always the literal build tanky when behind and damage when ahead. Some champs like an ADC when behind should probably be building sustain such as
instead of rushing the even more expensive
when you need the sustain more then and now.
However, when talking about tanks and bruisers OP you would be correct and did the right thing. I can't count how many times I have seen a
still try to rush his
when he is getting dumpstered in lane, and should really be building a
or
instead.
In short, building defensively is not just building tank items, but rather sustain or more cost efficient items when behind.
Especially weird since Gnar can build full tank when ahead and still do the most damage on his team.
huh my plat friend told me to ALWAYS build Gnar tank.
You should
You should
thats what i thought. i was taking a passive shot at the flamers
Gnar is supposed to be built tank anyways.. lol
What I do is that I try t start with some hybrid items for tanky and AD like Black Cleaver and Phage for later making Trinity Force since it's his go to item. But also a bit of AS with the Zephyr which also give movement speed. In my opinion Gnar is better going AD with some tankiness on the side.
honestly hex if they have mostly ap champions then just straight tank. Bruta is only if your lane opponent has 0 kill pressure.
I pretty much build full tank on gnarbage anyway, unless my team is really struggling, then I'll build botrk because it gives added peel against champs with no gap closers (oh wait....nobody plays those anymore)
You're supposed to build full tank on Gnar either way.
Your teammates were potatoes, everybody builds tank on Gnar anyways. In solo Q, I prefer building a single damage item on him for bullying lane (normally Tri Force or BotRK), but tank is the way to go on Gnar.
Don't quote me on this, this was based on LCS builds which may be less applicable in YoloQ.
Start with Dorans Blade. This gives you some sustain in the Earliest stages of the game. If your opponent is AP, get an Early Hex drinker. This should allow for better dueling against AP. But after that, you should focus tank stats. Gnar is the teams tank.
The problem I have with Gnar building offensive stats is that he requires too many things. Mini form is auto attack reliant, while his mega form is Ability reliant. You can't afford to build both AS and CDR.
Well, there's
, an item for pretty much all your offensive needs.
AD, armor pen, crit chance & CDR as well as an AS/MS active with good build paths.
AS and MS being actives also helps building up Gnar's rage on demand.
Whenever I want something offensive with Gnar, I usually pick that one up. But then again, I'm not an LCS player.
you're right, my only advice is get out of bronze. people will be stupid until you get to silver II
Correction, they will be stupid all the way through Plat III..... and occasionally into diamond as well lol
Actually I like building tank on him anyway. Allows for better engages and his natural damage numbers are high. Offense masteries/runes and defense items.
It's like you go full AD
. You might win the early game but you still will lose that game. The only argument to place more damage on
is this:
rush
rush (only when your really really far ahead)
(vs heavy MR)
(vs or with heavy AD)Both of these 4 items are heavy situational. I rarely see someone go a different item besides these 4. Whe could agrue whe still have
but that one is so situation I don't even think it's worth mentioning. Full tank just makes him more usefull overal
Gamechat is terrible, don't we know that by now?
—especially when playing a tanky bruiser... Some people are just clueless.
You probably would have been flamed either way. Flamers gonna flame after all.
I've seen people literally AFK because Fizz went AD top or Thresh bought Ancient Coin.
I have no idea what to even do about that. People will go 0-10 in mid lane and say GG noob Jax built Randuin's, that's why we lost. I guess just ignore them.
These are the same people who keep saving up for deathcap after they have given Annie 2 kills in 5 minutes, and keep trying to outdamage her, thinking that somehow they have a chance of beating her through "Big Plays" etc.
As a jungle main few things infuriate me more than people who feed faster than I can gank. Then they cry that the enemy is killing them under their own turret with ease, let's see you fed them 5 kills in under ten minutes and you still haven't bought a single defensive, what the f*ck did you think was going to happen?
As a rule of thumb I start building defense the moment I give up first blood, I really wish my teammates did this as well.

I mean to be fair, I have been there against Pantheon, Heimerdinger and Riven top where you just barely misjudge/misplay an early all-in, then they zone you off of every single CS regardles of what you build. They whittle your health down while you hug tower and your jungler ignores your lane because "lol feeder" then they dive you. You become down 40 cs and 2 kills within 5 minutes, try to farm the jungle so you don't die under your tower again and the jungler comes over to smite the camp and flame you.
You then have basically two options, try to stay in your lane and be forced to feed or AFK in the river until another lane overextends. Both are likely to get you flamed.
I've also been on the other side where I am up 80 CS and 4 kills extremely early as their entire team flames their laner. And I'm just like... he built tank and I would deal 100% of his health bar while he tried to CS under tower with no jungler help. Why are you flaming him?
The standard fighter build lately is Tri Force/BorK/the rest are tank items like Randuins/Banshee's Veil. It doesn't pay off these days to skip tri force or BorK due to how cost-inneficient tank items are by themselves.
While this is not helpful to solve your problem: If you are being flamed, that just means someone is feeling very passionatly about you. Better than indifference, isn't it? :P
In general you should know already that people like to flame for no reason at all. It distractes from their own mistakes, because they are obviously faultless.
so you didnt build tank when you won the lane ?
oh boy i cri everytim
Oh no i still build full tank :P
