Why do minions get random speed boosts?

Lowvyr··114 votes·5,905 views

Is it just me or do others see this happen to? Minions randomly start moving much faster sometimes for me.

Lets also not forget that now and again, for literally no reason at all, minions will teleport forward

They do it in order to catch up to their wave, it's not a bug, but still annoying and honestly can screw you up.

minions seems pretty buggy nowdays

Maybe it's because everything and their mother is coded as a fucking minion.

Damn spaghetti code -.-

hi

woah are you a minion?

50000000000000006 votes

Actually no, but he's coded as one.

Lowvyr1 votes

Even better.

Just going to leave this here...

Saw this in a normal game once, then tested it later against the AI. Galio's 'Righteous Gust' is coded as minions. Using the Oracle's Lens trinket reveals them.

UWOTM8?

PaladinNO3 votes

Whoa! That's...rather worrying, actually. :/

I trust revealing them doesn't disable the ability's movement buff? It can't be that poorly coded...

RavenKouhai2 votes

Kinda makes me wonder... Are GP's new boxes coded as like invisible explosive minions???

R1103 votes

Actually that is one of the things not coded as a minion :p Oracles lens doesn't interact with minions but with wards so Galio's E is coded as a bunch of wards.

Knight SoIaire 2 votes

meanwhile wards are coded as minions

aparently being detectable by oracle lens is a property of an object

maybe coding lists wards trinkets and galio's gust as a class and entire class got that property

its to prevent creep blocking

if one minion gets to far away from where it is supposed to be it will speed up to make sure that players cant hold up waves

doombotMECHA2 votes

that's one of the things i like about lol vs. dota, there's less of these random skills like creep blocking that you have to learn to be good at the game.

You should go look at some of the old Heimerdinger videos where he would block creeps from leaving the nexus and then a huge wave would just run down mid.

what if the enemy had lots of AoE and you just gave them 1000 free cs and ur turrets are still destroyed? lol

Rikari8 votes

I thought it was me lagging lol

MrBuffington1 votes

me too lol

windwolf7771 votes

Yeah, I thought it was lag with the minions appearing in 1 spot then the game compensating where they should be by super speeding to there

Squidblimp8 votes

Here's why, and this also happens with champions too: When 2 units target the same location and then go right next to each other, they bump into each other and then try to overtake one another, but since they are going the same speed and targeting the same location, they just get a buggy speed boost. This also happens if you do this with a friend and target the same location, both of your champions will eventually bump into each other and speed up and teleport a little bit.

This happened one time when I had two afk's on my team. One was already sent back to base in the center of the fountain, and the next afk tried to go to the same spot but was continuously glitching through his walking animation.

It happens to me the front 2 fighter minions speed up really really fast for a few seconds and run way ahead of the group. It really messes up pushes sometimes.

They just get really excited when they see an enemy tower or enemy minions and they just can't wait to get there. Minions can have feelings too!

Clapper of Asses3 votes

It usually happens when you are behind them...

I think it's because they are afraid http://orig03.deviantart.net/7394/f/2012/100/b/b/133401370497744_by_uchihaclanrock-d4vqeye.gif

To prevent the champions to boddy block them at the start of game Mechanic there is in dota2

I think they started that WAAAAAYY back when there was an Exploit where Heimerdinger could Block endless waves of Minions with his turrets.

So He'd Block them in base, they'd pile up (They didn't collide with themselves at the time) And The enemy laner would get no CS.

Then when Heimer got bored he'd unleash an unstoppable wave of 10,000+ Minions

Nefas2 votes

That sounds like the best thing ever...are there old videos of this?

Nefas1 votes

Ah that's awesome

KFC Cashier1 votes

because certain split pushers would be incredibly powerful and be able to make a monster wave a bit easier if those two minions were to stay and hold up the enemy minions.

Noam Braumsky1 votes

I saw it in the middle of an lcs match, and neither of the casters acknowledged it. It was pretty funny just having these sudden 500 ms minions out of nowhere lol

what you see and what the server sees are different. servers says, "hey stupid client you are wrong again" Client then pushes the minions faster or teleports them to match what server says.

The Bíg Ticket1 votes

That's what you call pingspike.

Cerbearus1 votes

I've missed cs because of that damn teleporting. and that "catch up to their wave" stuff is bs. Why then do only the melees do it...while they are ahead of everything else

Baby Ghoul1 votes

For me it seems to be 2 minions in the group that speed up really fast from the rest of the pack when I'm approaching the second enemy tower after destroying the first. It's especially awkward because they tend to have low health bars, so I need to wait for the other minions to catch up.

King Odin1 votes

Waving your mouse over them also causes this I found out

A Miss Fortune1 votes

I thought it was the front Warrior minion that would charge at the enemy minions if they're down by one or two so that they could push a bit further and not inevitably lose since they're down by a minion.

Minions gain bonus movement speed if a nearby champion has an appropriate item or buff on them. For example, if a champion had an Elixir of Ruin item 2137 buff on them, they'd gain bonus movement speed. Also, if a champion had a Hand of Baron buff, minions would also gain bonus movement speed. I believe they have a hard cap of 500 movement speed.

I think it's some sort of mechanic they're meant to have, kind of like the Point Runner passive on item 2053 or something, like, if you're near a wave and it's just starting to move the minions will get a little speed boost to get ahead of you so they can be first into the fray, first to take tower aggro, etc. I see it in pretty much every game, I've kind of just come to accept it. Though I still wonder why it happens. That's my best guesstimation.

minions get random speed boosts because at the begining of every game the time skips a few seconds, NOW if you put this over to minions they are technically ahead/behind so they get random spurts of speed trust me

RetroRage961 votes

True, sometimes a minion that I am running next to will just start moving way ahead of the wave with me, like it's being pushed.

stabby himiko1 votes

There was a video on this before,it happens when a slower minion (or champion) is passed by right over a faster minion (or champion) right in front of them, and so the slower minion (or champion) is boosted in front of the faster minion (or champion) and so the process continues.
