IronStylus says he's a feminist.

So why in the actual fuck did you butcher Fiora? Is it because she was young and beautiful and that was "objectifying" her? Is she not allowed to be what she is? Before she looks like a proud, young, strong, beautiful duelist. That's what she is. Now she looks like Joan Rivers cosplaying reincarnated Michael Jackson on meth. If anything, this is more objectifying than it was before. Is fair to the players that you can decide to butcher a character, and remove what big part of her design defined who she was simply because of your own thoughts? You can be a feminist, I don't care about that, but when your ideals get in the way of a character that people love and you change them because of how YOU think, it's gone too far. Do our worst? Give the Fiora players that bought her skins and hate her VU their money back. People complained about Sledgehammer nerfing DLC guns in Advanced Warfare, the difference between this and those skins? Even after taking mild nerfs, those DLC guns are still the same. It's still what the player paid for. This Fiora rework? This is NOT what players paid for. They paid for a skin for a young duelist that made her look badass, not some old bitch that's hooked on meth. She's barely the same person anymore. "We don't want to change the identities of champions. They are who they are." Well good fucking job. Fiora isn' even Fiora anymore. Please for the love of God, listen to your players for once. Please. I hated Fioras kit before, and I hate it even more now, but I always loved her visuals. I LOVED her art. Now, I hate everything about her. She was at least appealing enough visually for me to play before, but now, I don't even want to touch her. I tried to play her once on the PBE but I couldn't get past 15 minutes with her. She was so ugly and her kit felt so clunky and overly difficult to be able to use correctly that I just didn't even want to play her. Please Listen To Us

A feminist shouldn't be afraid or intimidated by a beautiful, gorgeous, sexy, and elegant woman like Fiora.

The thing about these feminists in name only is that they're not here to bridge the gap between men and women and create an egalitarian society, they're here desperately seeking attention. IronStylus is changing Fiora not because of feminist reasons, but because he wants to appeal to feminists in such a way that it would make him seem like a feminist hero or icon. Sadly, he just looks like your average beta male putting women on a pedestal and half-assing the feminist act in order to get Phreak's sexy secretary to notice him.

@IronStylus You're not helping anyone by pretending to be a feminist. You do feminists a disservice by claiming to be a feminist because in reality you're just here to restrict the ability for women to be beautiful and kick ass at the same time. You're creating a gender rule and it just sickens me how you don't see the discord betwen your actions vs your beliefs.

His brand of "feminism" is unnervingly similar to the prevalent attitude towards women found in places like Saudi Arabia.

It's that condescending, "I know what's best for you", "women need to be protected...from themselves" type of stuff that's downright offensive.

He's a tumblr feminist. Actual feminism is no longer needed in the western world. Tumblr feminsm is basically insecure women projecting those insecurities onto anything that makes them feel uncomfortable and seeking to censor or change it. The men who support them are beta maxes who were deprived of female attention when younger and will do anything for it.

It's disgusting.

  1. If you wont play a champ because they are "ugly" you are shallow.
  2. Fiora before was young arrogant french eye candy, now she is slightly older and less focused on eye candy. Sexiness however was never a part of her personality, and she was only sexy for the sake of being a girl in a skin tight bodysuit. So there really was no reason for her to remain sexy, it wasnt even what defined her as a champion. At her core, she is still an arrogant french duelist. Making her more distinct has nothing to do with Ironstylus being a feminist.
  3. Kit complaints are more valid. Her kit is balls hard to play, but it is also oh so satisfying to play correctly. Riot did an excellent job giving her the feel of a duelist by rewarding you for precise strikes. They made her much harder to play but much more rewarding.

@goat Feminism is needed less in the western world, there are still issues of how we treat victims of sexual assault (male and female), policing of people's bodies (male and female), and gender roles (men and women). Original feminism was very egalitarian and many of them are working on issues that help both sexes and all genders. My support for them isn't because I'm a "beta max", its because I'm someone educated enough on the subject to know that not all feminists are tumblr feminists and that each wave of feminism had different tones that left strange impressions on uneducated people. To say all feminsts are tumblr feminists is the equivalent of saying all conservatives are tea baggers or all liberals are marxists.

Feminism doesn't fundamentally require poor design (quite the opposite), so it follows that a poorly drawn face has little to do with his feminism.

There is also amusement to be found with people claiming to be all in favor of artistic freedom except when the product of that freedom is not ideologically pleasing to them.

Lastly, "Choice Feminism" is not Feminism. It's exactly the fucking equivalent of saying "Liberal Marxist" or "Anarchist Capitalist" or "Communist Capitalist" or "Square Circle" or "Atheist Theist" or etc etc etc. Logically meaningless gibberish for people who don't understand that you can't reject everything that makes a position what it is and still maintain that you follow that position. You don't get to reject the identity of Indiscernibles simply because it's inconvenient to you.

Yet they are.

This isn't really a Feminist thing, Look at her new Pose no feminist would be cool with that kind of needless spine twisting shit, it's just a bad art design being forced on a character whose visuals were fine,

I don't know why riot's going so ham on her VU. Isn't a sensibly dressed proud young woman defined by her skill in a more-masculine sport (I know plenty of female fencers, but I thought in her lore it's was mentioned she was competing against mostly men) a... symbol of feminist ideals? I don't keep up with this stuff, but it seems like Fiora was already in an excellent spot when it came to female characters that weren't just ass-n-titties. Why such a drastic overall?

And I'm sorry for anyone who bought her skins. It's one thing to modify a free product. It's a dick move by Riot to significantly change something customer's have paid for.

FailTsukkomi7/25/2015, 4:59:27 AM8 votes

I don't think this change has anything to do with feminism

the Fiora VU is in line with the kind of stuff they've been pushing ever since the new SR. hence Ironstylus' push for their "stylistic goals." I will say the new Fiora looks more "fitting" in the new SR, just like how the new pentakill morde looks more "fitting" in the new SR, it just doesn't change how they also look worse. At least morde looks like the same character though, while Fiora just got utterly butchered.

it just looks worse is all and they need a better reason than stylistic goals if they're going to put out literal trash like the new models. updated splash is okay, but it seriously needs more work or just a flat out revert to the old splash and models with a few texture updates if they're just going to make her look more like the old Fiora (if they're doing that, then why even fucking change it, just scrap this whole godawful mess).

Neo-feminism is not the same as feminism. Fake feminists are the worst kind of feminists.

Xsoteric Ronin 7/25/2015, 7:29:46 AM7 votes

sadly I'm convinced rito is hell bent on changing every sexy charcter.

watch them rework ahri next: " We felt that making her too foxy was just unnecessary,, so we gave her a suit like leona"

Biff Manly7/25/2015, 12:55:22 AM7 votes

Does bad art have anything to do with feminism? Apparently I'm misunderstanding one of these terms.

KING OF MASKS7/25/2015, 4:42:59 AM7 votes

If you ask me, this particular brand of gender politics has no place in the current discussion. The last thing anyone wants is for the Fiora VU to turn into a feminist/anti-feminist battleground.

The new models are shitty and there was zero reason to change her design or even update her in the first place. Isn't that enough of a reason to reject the VU? No need to bring politics into it.

Maltuser7/25/2015, 9:50:57 AM6 votes

is he a feminist or a "tumblr style feminist", the one that whines for no good reason and try to force their ideas down your throat?

Scarlet Shaman7/25/2015, 1:00:08 AM5 votes

Excuse my noobiness, but where did he declare this? Was it an interview of sorts, or a comment related to the recent VUs?

By Feminist Standard, We should change every single overly-sexy champion in the game:

Caitlyn No one would wear a skirt and go to battle, we objectify her

Leblanc No one would wear such exposed clothing and go to battle, we objectify her

Varus No one would wear nothing and go to battle, we objectify...

I hate to say it, if he really said he changed it because he's a feminist, it sounds like an excuse...

Icestar11867/25/2015, 4:27:04 PM3 votes

Arguably, what you are saying is technically accurate. However, it is blown way out of proportion. Does the model look bad? Yeah. Will they fix it? Probably. Will she look that different by the end of it? Not really. I don't get where feminism fits in, though. Is it feminist or not feminist to redraw a character in a slightly different style? It's neither.

Azteryz7/25/2015, 3:58:59 PM3 votes

if you have a problem with the new fiora visuals then say you have a problem with it

dont use feminism as an excuse like he did this on purpose for that reason

its like saying "hey this guy is an asshole its probably because is black" no its not he just an asshole that happens to be black

Wakamune7/25/2015, 7:45:02 PM3 votes

The issue is bad design and nostalgia. We're used to the old Fiora and attatching qualities of personality onto her old face design.

If this is a new character, then there should be no issue with a plain face girl, providing people are not being careless about feminism/egalitarianism.

IronStylus isn't a feminist. He's a pre-apologetic. He's just riding the whole Joss Whedon schtick of "I'm progressive and hip!" when all he's doing is showing how much of a self-important pretentious artist he is.

One quote for example "We didn't want Gangplank to be so Piratey McPirate".

He's GODDAMNED HECTOR BARBOSSA NOW. THE MOST 'PIRATEY MCPIRATE' to ever exist.

Spizzle90007/25/2015, 1:55:24 AM2 votes

Now, I can understand why this irritates so many people. Women can be attractive and dangerous at the same time.

But, I do believe it could've potentially been an honest mistake. League of Legends has gotten criticism for the all of the extremely sexualized female characters, such as Ahri, Miss Fortune, etc. The problem is that no matter what he does in this case, someone will be angry at him. Some feminists will think that if Fiora's too attractive, she's being objectified, and if she isn't attractive enough, she's just being made less beautiful to put women down.

Tonnen7/25/2015, 8:22:56 AM2 votes

I agree with all of the VU things, but the gameplay is actually pretty fun and creative. I just want to keep old fiora looks, but I LOVE the new gameplay, if you haven't played it yet don't say its bad.

Maratsune7/25/2015, 3:59:55 PM2 votes

I'm confused. When did Fiora's new splash become a feminist thing? Her new splash looks more sexualized than her old one imo... And as long as Varus continues to be sexualized, I have no qualms about female characters being sexualized. shrug
