An Alternative to the Upcoming Sightstone Change

First and foremost, I'm not worried about the upcoming change. I'm mostly interested to try it out and see how it feels. But I know a lot of people in the community are freaking out, and wanted to give it some thought.

I just played this game as support and had a vision score of 85. Even in games that don't last as long, my vision score is usually pretty high whether I buy a sightstone or not, and if it's not reflected in my vision score, I'm doing something to gain vision like using teemo shrooms which grant a lot of map awareness without counting toward your score.

My point is, with trinkets and control wards (and now klepto which grants extra rng vision), sightstone isn't necessary as a tool to gain proper vision control. With the uproar about the current changes to support items, I offer this alternative...

Still get rid of sightstone. Don't change support item quests or passives. Still allow the Eye of... items as separate tier 3 options but only with a 1000 gold upgrade (or whatever amount would make sense) without a sightstone built into it for lategame warding when teams run out of item slots to buy control wards.

Everyone - players & Riot alike - agree that support quest rewards are good. Currently Riot wants to potentially move them to new items so that the sightstone wards can replace them on current support items. I genuinely don't feel like the sightstone wards are actually necessary in order to establish effective vision control. In fact, with trinket timing on cooldowns, removing sightstone all together for the early game encourages players to use their wards more purposefully. You have to really consider timing and effectiveness of placing your wards. Supports & ADCs will need to work together to provide vision for their lanes, and jungles will really consider when to ward in the jungle or help a laner out with some extra vision.

That is my proposal.

Thoughts and discussion welcome. Rude and ignorant responses are not.

I'm more worried about the power spikes from the 800G not going into a ss to prevent ganks that is going to allow mages to hit even harder earlier. Sure they will be squishier without the hp from that ss but rushing a ruby crystal for an earlier eyes of pain (sue me I play zyra alot) can offset that hp loss.

Now that 800G on a mage or other dps char vs the 800G worth of hp and resists for tanks and adc's which fyi aren't getting any bonus gold here. That adc is going to be even squishier for that mage to burst.

Simple fact is this is going to be a huge buff for mage supports and pretty much hurt utility, and tank supports because stat wise that 800g is not worth much. Sure they could START on a defensive item earlier like locket or maybe knights vow, or even go for a censor or redemption (if their doing the whole sustain and shield thing) but those items require their full stats and actives to really shine. Where as in contrast. A Mage can rush cdr or what I often do (it would only be 50G more after this change) a blasting wand there is an immediate payoff for that. Now that there is no SS to wory about it means you dont have to choose between an early game power spike OR vision because now you get BOTH with no real trade off.

on the warding note. I would like an item that lets me actually dominate in vision control like pay extra on a support for a lower CD sweeper, or to place multiple pink wards (since ya know we're getting 800g to spend on something)

TLDR: Unless I missed something mages will get far more out of this from an extra 800g for damage than utility will get in shield/heal power/cdr or tanks will get in sustain or peeling tools.

as long as they keep the 20% ruby ss passive im fine

Also just thought I'd put it out there that I do notice a lot of non-supports barely using their free trinket vision and I'd love to discuss ways to encourage/reward players for contributing to team vision...

you know... aside from having better vision which leads to in-game advantages haha
