How the heck do you play vlad? I never was super good with his old version but his new version just seems like a waste of a champion. It's a great concept but.... lifesteal. Lifesteal is infinitely more broken than me healing off of q and even r. With a kit designed to heal, wouldn't I be better off just playing a ranged carry with lifesteal top lane? Even when I build tank the enemy ALWAYS outheals me, outdamages me, and does it much more easily than I do. I love the concept, I've always like lifesteal and spellvamp, but I can't understand how vlad works better than any other champion with better ratios, more cc and more global or team presence.

I get the same feeling when I play Vlad. I have watched youtubers play him though. I think Im just playing him wrong because i see them winning lane and dealing damage both early and late. I however believe he is not newplayer friendly.

First off, get it out of your head that Vlad revolves around sustain. He doesn't. He revolves around damage. Sustain is a bonus. Period.
Usually afk farm until you hit 3+ items.
Crimson Rrush enemy if they're in feasible range. Don't over-commit for it.
Never attempt to stat-check. Do not all-in unless its a guaranteed kill with empowered Q+E. Pretty much everything shits on you.
Build full AP
Time your engages around Crimson Rush.
Never build unless you're mid and legitimately cannot lane vs the enemy champ without it.
and . No exceptions.
12/18/0, taking every damage mastery (or dangerous game) and Storm Raider's Surge. No exceptions.
Always play to kite unless you can kill the majority of what you're engaging on relatively quickly; each kill affected by R gives you a heal.
Don't EVER use W unless you absolutely HAVE to. This means only to avoid damage you can't afford to take or CC that will have heavy damage behind it.
Learn how to 1v2, 1v3, and 1v4 fights. Learn the champs you cannot fight if there are multiple enemies.
