Talon vs zed and why zed is so much more popular

I just thought ill ask your guys opinion on why zed is played so much more than talon ( comparing them because they are the only two mid lane ad assassins, yasuo being more a fighter) i mean talon has much faster burst ,not nearly as item reliant as zed ,not ult reliant like zed ,cant be countered as easily ( zhonyas ,qss, makes zed useless),has aoe damage and a slow and much easier to play yet you hardly ever see talon being played ,any thoughts from zed/talon mains or general opinions appreciated (:

cause you can lose lane with talon. zed?he'll just spam q and farm even if he somehow can't kill you.

Why zed is more popular

  1. Zed is flashier and looks cooler when getting kills
  2. Pros tend do amazing plays and people try to emulate them
  3. Zed is a far better duelist thus making his split pushing more impressive than talon
  4. Zed is a lot safer and a lot more forgiving for mistakes
  5. Zed has more mobility
  6. Talon is known to be suicide bomber... You trade every kill with a death. Zed is know to quickly kill his enemy and leave without a scratch
  7. Zed has a very strong laning phase
  8. Zed uses energy instead of mana

Why I like talon more

  1. Assassin > ninja
  2. Aoe damage
  3. More reliable burst
  4. Deleting people is nice
  5. Talon is cold and calculating... You go in? You better be sure you're gonna kill your target
  6. Arguably fastest burst in the game next to rengar
  7. Michael Jackson dance >Zed's laugh
  8. Unpopular pick, feels more unique, talon main community is awesome
  9. Better team fighter
  10. Ssw skin is sexy whereas zed's project skin makes him look like a turtle

Zed is a "safer" pick, generally can stay in lane in tougher match ups where Talon is very close ranged comparably and can get poked out.

TLDR Zed has a safer Lane Phase.

Zed has energy, talon has mana

I believe it's mainly because Zed is good at getting into a fight, deleting the carry, and getting back out safely, Talon is only really good at getting into the fight and has no real escape unless he blows his ult just to get away.

talon will get poked down in lane, has no sustain and little to no waveclear early. in tf's he jumps in, blows somethig up and dies or he just dies.

Zed is the opposite. I really enjoy playing zed, he feels like the perfect assassin.

LadyRenly10/22/2015, 4:18:34 PM1 votes

Talon is so much easier to play, there is a lot less you can possibly mess up with his mechanics and that is why I prefer him. But he has mana costs, and Zed is flashier so he will always get the spotlight over Talon.

Zed is a ninja who manipulates shadows to remove enemies.

Talon is REALLY good with knives.

Lugg10/22/2015, 4:59:18 PM1 votes

Zed is much safer. He can farm from further distance and he can escape ganks very easy. Plus the outplay potential on Zed is way higher.

NemeBro10/23/2015, 10:09:30 PM1 votes

Zed is much more fun to play, despite Talon being a more reliable, possibly "better" pick.

Most Talon plays look basically the same. Zed is a bit more versatile, even though his burst is far more avoidable than Talon's. He's also a better duelist due to his build, which helps him splitpush.

Zed has an Escape

Fowus10/23/2015, 11:13:09 PM1 votes

I think Talon is better since when Zed ults you, you just ult and enter stealth and run away. Sure Zed is better in some aspects like having a lot more range and more mobility along with his energy, but overall I just like Talon more due to his style I guess

ForgiveColour10/23/2015, 11:19:59 PM1 votes

the thing is if a talon is being played you know you are going to get shit on but with zed lol you can probably beat them with lux

Rueian10/23/2015, 11:25:55 PM1 votes

Zed overall is stronger, safer and more mobile than talon. Talon can only go in, so if he doesn't kill two or three people he is going to die in the process of him killing someone. Zed like leblanc can just jump in get the kill and shadow hop out.

SwapShadows10/23/2015, 11:34:23 PM1 votes

Talon is actually a really safe assassin when played properly and barely has mana issues when going the right masteries and management.

Talon overall is a better assassin than zed in terms of playstyle due to him being far less countered by items/champions/summoner spells than zed is but Zed does have a higher skillcap and overall is thematically cooler with more outplay potential which is why people pick him over talon.

Hey man! Consider two aspects that Zed has that Talon doesn't .

Firstly, Zed is much more mobile. He was a free blink that he can place anywhere he wishes, and his ult offers him a second blink that he can use to leave fights should they turn sour. Talon doesn't have that. If he goes in and can't kill the target, he's almost certainly dead. His ult isn't the same level of escape as Zed 's, since most people will buy item 2043 instinctively against Talon (or they should) to negate his invisibility. Zed also has more team presence than Talon , although that isn't saying a whole lot, he is capable of kiting in fights more easily than Talon and poking much harder than Talon .

Secondly, Talon is quite reliant on auto attacks to deal damage, whereas Zed is not as reliant. Sure Zed 's passive deals considerable damage to targets with low HP, but this isn't a necessary form of damage to secure a kill when you factor in his W's double or possibly triple proc on his Q and his E, combined with his ult's scaling and damage re-dealing factor. Talon is reliant on his autos and Q reset to deal most of his damage, as his E's and W's damage is not that massive. Most people in challenger tier that I have seen face a Talon almost always argue that item 3047 is one of the best ways to negate a lot of his all-ins, one in particular would be xWingsofDeathx when he faced a Talon as a Yasuo . Even his (Talon ) ult's damage isn't that phenomenal, and by that I mean it won't take 1/4 of the enemies health in most situations like a double Zed Q can if he doesn't hit any minions.

Just some food for thought. Hope this helps! Let me know if I need to clarify anything! :D

I play both and used to like Zed a lot more than Talon. Now I'd say I like them just about equally, with maybe a little shift towards Talon. I've had much more success using Talon and found his kit to be way more reliable. It's also easier for me to pressure the laner and map as Talon, due to his E. I feel......more like a predator on the hunt when I use Talon. Plus, I find his kit offers much more in team fights than Zed. My laning phase is also overall much better with Talon.

I think people tend to play Zed more for the flashy stuff. They're hoping to make "awesome" shadow plays with Zed and get cool points. Zed is also a lot safer than Talon, especially in the laning phase. If need be, Zed can spam his Q to farm while trying to poke. He can also ult in and back out if he put himself in a bad spot by re-clicking R. Talon isn't as flashy or shifty as Zed either, so maybe they feel clunky playing Talon.

Either way, I find it odd that people don't play Talon more. He's a legit assassin, is very reliable, and can (imo) pressure the match more than Zed.

PDE5 Inhibitors10/22/2015, 3:49:18 PM1 votes

Zed is safer and can kill you easier.

CreationFlaw10/22/2015, 3:55:25 PM1 votes

Probably because Talon gets shit on early game by 95% of matchups
