Because he doesn't contribute anything aside from damage.

He can't gank as a mid, and he can't poke the enemy laner out either. He gives up way too much presence early for great mid-late game damage.

Inability to clear waves from constantly being shoved. Only thing that allowed AP ez to be OP for a time was runeglaive and purple smite.

Have fun as chogath shoves to your inhib

He's ok if you're really good at him but you need to invest a lot of time to get there... He also has a few matchups he straight up loses pretty much no matter what. Contrary to popular belief he's not that weak early. If used properly he has a nice spike of power at lvl 2 and 4 depending on the matchup, you just need a combat summoner, not smite (runeglaive isn't worth it anymore). Also, as some other people have pointed out he doesn't contribute anything but damage. But that can be compensated with a good teamcomp that let's your damage shine.

I don't know if this is common knowledge but max Q for the poke + clearing minions faster (really important). I prefer maxing Q, getting a point in W at 4, then get 3 points in E and if I acquired some CDR by then start maxing out W, if not max E before W.

I currently have the most success with this build: doran ring -> sheen -> lucidity boots (if you have 1250g when you back you should buy large rod) -> luden's echo -> lichbane -> deathcap/zhonya -> void -> deathcap/zhonya. or doran -> sheen -> morello -> spell pen boots -> cap/zhonya... etc

AP Ezreal mid doesn't contribute much to the team beside burst. Look at popular picks like Ahri (2 sec charm), Azir (Zone control, slow, knock back, ms bonus, impassable wall, blocks dashes), Lux (Slow, root, shield)...etc. He's risky to play against other mid laners, and has a lot of early game weaknesses, most notably his poor wave clear.

He is easy to bully hard early....but after that he is beast mode lol. I love mid Ez.

Because 90% of their winning AP Ezreal games were all thanks to pre-nerfed Runeglaive. Now that item is long gone(just for mid), everyone is just straight up scared.

The reason no one plays AP Ez is because he's not all that easy to use. Ez has weak waveclear as is, so when you go AP you lose all your AA damage, and it gets that much harder. He also starts out pretty weak until you build a tear or ROA. But once you've learned how to play him well, and get past his weaknesses, he's a monster. You can 100-0 even tanks near instantly with E>W>Q>R>Q. ^^

My biggest pet peeve with ap ez is no wave clear except for all When you have super minions coming into your base that's REALLY bad

He's incredibly easy to destroy early. Like complete shut down easy. If you're up against someone who can competently and consistently poke you out of lane, you're useless.
