Is Akali overpowered or not?
I really want to discuss this.
Frankly, I don't think she should get resets upon kill on an ult with three targeted dashes.

It's not that she's OP. It's the nature of her champion (or assassins in general) that make her frustrating. Remember, Annoying =/= OP
She's a single target, squishy, mobile melee assassin with negligible CC. Her only strengths are her damage, her mobility, and her spell vamp. The only thing she can offer to her team is damage
She has amazing dueling capabilities, but does not fare well in team fights. It's really risky for her to enter team fights, mainly because she's VERY liable to blow up. The reason why Akali tears teams apart (if she does) is because no one focuses her. It's essentially the same as letting a well built Graves attack your team throughout the entire team fight. Focusing her will keep her out of team fights. Pink wards and upgraded scanner will reveal her. It is essential that you buy these so she doesn't have the stealth grace period.
Most assassins have reliable escapes. Akali doesn't. This is the reason why her ult resets.
She has spell vamp because she needs it to be able to live when she dives the carry. Nobody considers this: her full combo takes a minimum of 12 seconds to complete. Every other mage/assassin will instagibb you in 1.5 seconds. Akali doesn't do this. Her spell vamp is there so that she can soak up some damage while she dishes out hers.
And of course, her damage is high because she's single target, and it's the only thing she has.
For those complaining about her low cooldown, it's because her burst takes 12 seconds to complete. If all her damage was upfront like Lux or Syndra, her cooldowns would be longer.
The counter to assassins is Armor/MR, Health, and teamwork. It's the same reason why Kat, Talon, etc etc do so well in solo queue. As you'll find it, Akali gets harder to play as you climb the ladder because teamwork gets better. Think of it like Master Yi, great in lower ELO, a bit iffy in higher elo.
It's also good to remember, that assassins are made to assassinate. Their role is get in, kill the squishy, and get out. Unless you build resistances or health, you're going to die.
Funnily enough Yi does alot better in higher elo cause of the amount of counterplay he has.
This is basically Akali in a nut-shell and shows that Akali's difficulty doesn't lie in her mechanical skill, but decision-making and meaningful choices. If you jump onto the wrong champion at the wrong time, chances are you will die.
Because her combo takes so long to complete (12 seconds is an eternity in league), the enemy team can retaliate against her. By her nature, Akali counters squishies. She is really weak against bruisers, tanks, and ADCs can retaliate against her come late-game because they crit for over 1000 AD with just one AA.
I don't think she's necessarily overpowered as much as she is faceroll and anti-fun.
Awhile back, I used to main her, played her a whole lot. Finally moved on from her, and glad I did. But because of my experience with her, I know first-hand how toxic her kit can be.
It's the whole issue of 'even if you counter Akali in lane, your botlane loses to her, and then she comes back to midlane fed and facerolls you."
It takes the control almost completely away from you. You just have to suck it up and spam-ping to hope your botlane (and jungler) don't feed her. It's really frustrating. And back when I did play her, it felt unfair.
Her kit should probably keep the same power but be given more of a skill requirement. Like making her q a skillshot or something.
I used to main her too, so I know what you're talking about.
I kinda stopped playing Akali simply because it feels too easy to face-roll and snowball with her.
The rank games you played akali states over wise ;P
Which were played about 4-6 months ago.
Then wasn't she nerfed.
So that just means she would be worst for you to play as.
He's probably alot better now.
Hmm. Are you saying akali takes skill. Not just pick, instant win.
Decision-making is a big part of her difficulty. If you go in at the wrong time, you are very liable to being blown up. If you go in at the slightly wrong time, you get no kill. The timing has to be exact, and because your combo takes 12 seconds, you need to choose your targets VERY carefully.
No? Where did I say that? He most likely had bad scores because his knowledge over the game itself was terrible. By now if he has been playing since then, he'll be having a load more game knowledge such as knowing which teamfights to attempt, whether they can win that 1v2, 2v5 skirmish and not roaming the jungle when it's darker than the Bat cave
More toxic than overpowered.
I ban her because I hate playing against her kit. I cannot escape her. I cannot dodge her. I can only beat her so badly in lane before she just wanders bot and murders my team. And once she has Gunblade, I cannot even outsustain her in lane.
I don't like her kit, I think its poorly designed.
Burst CC mages counter her hard
this is what i keep telling people, or ad champs with CC that dont die easily like

Is she picked a lot in competitive? If not, she almost certainly isn't.
I don't think that should matter.
I don't think that should matter.
Actually, it's one of the only things that really does matter. If she's not picked at the highest level, then it means that there are certain drawbacks which they consider greater than her strengths. Balance is based on high-level play. It's meant to show the state of a champion when used properly against competent opposition.
Except the highest level of play doesn't mean shit since they're the minority.
That does ignore the fact that teamwork and effective communication are virtually non-existent outside of 5v5 play. When you are playing alone or just with one or two friends then balance parameters change.
Using Akali as an example; To do well, Akali must roam and get kills elsewhere. 5v5 your team-mates in other lanes are more likely to trust you when you ask them to play more safely or to fall back. When in a teamfight it is far easier to coordinate your CC and burst when you are actually playing WITH people near you rather than with strangers miles away.
She has everything inbuilt (sustain, burst damage, gapcloser, escape, aoe damage) and the perfect item to boost both the sides of her passive. She is the only assassin that after being caught in a hard CC and brought down to 10% hp can still overpower you and come out at 90% hp to deal with the rest of your team. Not to mention that flash doesn't put you in a safe position if she has more than one charge on ehr ultimate.
And why is she still alive after being caught into a hard CC? She's squishy; you should be able to kill her in the time that you CC'd her, because she has no reliable escape.
By the way, your argument about her being at 10% and overpowering you can be said about every ADC, Yi, Tryn, and Fiora. Don't burst them in time? They'll kill you in two seconds and heal all that up in one minion wave plus some (if they have BT). If you can't burst an assassin down, you deserve to die to them. They're made to duel and assassinate people. "Assassin killed me, they must be OP".
If you flash over a wall, she will not be able to catch you unless she has flash or vision. In any case, she's supposed to be a sticky champion. Her burst - the full three rotations, takes a minimum of 12 seconds to complete. She would only have one dash if her Q was heinously buffed to deal all her damage upfront like how Lux/Syndra deal their damage. If you think about it, this version of Akali would be worse, because when she throws her Q at her, you don't have that large window to deal with her, because once she dashes, that Q proc will kill you. If you are both equal in gold, she will need the full three dashes (12 seconds) to kill you.
By the way, the AoE she has is negligible. It's detrimental for her to spam that for damage in team fights unless she wants to run out of energy. She can use it probably only once in her full combo, and even then she runs a big risk of running out of energy for that one E.
Don't just throw in superficial facts about her kit in your argument.
Becuase there is always a chance (by luck, by build) to survive the duration of an hard CC. The difference with Akali and other assassins is that the latters are dead no matter what (unless well timed Zhonya which is only a delay to the inevitable). Akali on the other hand declares that you and your team are dead and there is no chance for you to counterplay nor hope in her being killable any time soon.
Overpowered is a term relevant only when compared to the power levels of everyone else.
Is she overpowered when compared to Urgot? Yes, absolutely. Is she overpowered when compared to Zed? I wouldn't be comfortable claiming that.
A more correct question would be whether her kit is a bit too cohesive for the game's own good. And I'd say it currently is.
But the solution is simple, just revert her passive buff and force her to have AD runes again in order to acquire her starting spellvamp and reduce the uptime of the debuff she applies, because being as long as the actual cooldown is a bit retarded.
buy
collect 300g
shes broken as shit
When I play her I feel like I'm literally cheating. So yeah, she is OP in my opinion.
In the vast majority of normal games where no one is buying an upgraded red trinket, yeah she's op.
Otherwise, she can be mean but she's not as toxic as Fizz or anything.
As an Assassin player, I can tell you is that far by Akali is one of the easiest to play, you don't need much practice with her to play effectively, shes not different than any Assassins, but one thing about her is that she is hard to keep down even when behind or losing in lane.
Is she OP? Yes.
Yes, she's overpowered in solo queue
You can spout on and on about how she is binary and can be countered incredibly hard, but when you're in solo queue and you're playing the probability game, she's one of your best options. You'll get rekt in a good number of them, you'll be at least carriable in most of them, and in a few of them you can straight 1 man carry.
To be honest, I just think she can sometimes be hard to deal with. On the other hand, when people buy pinks and Oracle's her abuse patterns drop hard. She's just too binary. Let's see how she fares with Oracle's being 250 Gsus.
I think the only issue with her is that she gets 3 charges when shes resurrects. The counter should only be effective when she is alive. If she kills somebody mid and dies in the process she comes out on top mostly because the enemy will have ult on cd but she will have 3 charges ready to burn. I think giving her 1 charge upon resurrection is more than fair. 3 is just what? Even 1 is probably too much LOL. Since by the time she got to lane she'd nearly have 2.
Buff her to not have a base combo of 640(+1.7AP)(+.6AD) then.
She shouldn't do so much damage for how much mobility she has.
But she's an assassin so she's supposed to do damage, which sucks.
talon does 1049.95(+4.669 bonus AD) in damage and I don't see anybody complaining. Zed does more too...and kha....and lb....and fizz....and basically every other assassin
Dusteon is saying akali's base damage is absolute shit (and needs a buff), and the only way she can even kill targets is if she gets ahead. A fed akali lategame is a lot less scary than almost any other assassin, because she need to pop her combo twice to kill most squishies (qrewqre) instead of the 1shot of talon/fizz. her damage doesn't need a nerf, it already sucks for an assassin, but the mobility needs to go. Either less range, longer cd between dashes, or assists refresh stack by half or something
Those other assassins don't dish out that damage as often as she does though, it's completely different fruit.
She might have 640(+1.7AP)(+0.6AD), but that's a number that keeps repeating itself every 3-4 seconds.
These are just your dashes which are also your only means of gap-closing sans flash. Keep in mind that Akali uses her ult in combination with her other skills, so it would be 36 seconds per 3 rotations. (12s per rotation).
Not to mention that Akali cannot realistically dish out that much damage in such a short time period without some form of retaliation; Her assassination pattern is, compared to LeBlanc's of Fizz, much, much healthier as it leaves you 12 full seconds to retaliate.
Aw yessss lets nerf Akali just because she kicked my butt so hard that I came to forum in order to cry and hope that Riot might nerf her.

?????
I haven't even faced an Akali recently, nice assumption.
honestly i dont think shes op, mainly because my main mids are malzahar and mordekaiser who just destroy her even if she roams so whatever
She's def strong, but I feel like its more how she can use a huge dash, chunk you, and if your team turns on her, she can Zhonya and have her team rape your team for standing together, and if your team doesn't turn, she just keeps dashing and dashing.
It's not so much that's she's overpowered, so much as that her kit has no way for you to counterplay it. Q and R are both point and click. She can dash up to three times and gets free charges from kills and assists. If she gets ahead there is nothing you can do to stop her.
I remember playing against a Vladimir once when I was new.to the gamr. It was a fairly even lane untill I hit 6. Past that I would instantly engage and murder him whenever he would dare to leave his tower. I was cometely inescapable and he had no way of defending himself against my targeted damage.
She's not overpowered, she's just fairly binary (she tends to either stomp games or become irrelevant), and it's more difficult to counter her than it is to play her, which is why she's frustrating to play against when you're not buying pink wards or accelerating the laning phase towards mid-game grouping. Nerfing her resets would just damage her mobility without necessarily improving the quality of her gameplay, and I think she would be a lot less frustrating to play against if she gave her targets more opportunities to outplay her.
I didn't REALLY know about Akali until I played a mid laner other than
.
His burst his so high, not even Akali dares to get near for long. Just don't use you E unless she dashes to you. If you do this right, her only option will be to use 2 charges of her ult or try running RIGHT after she jumps on him (which won't do a lot).
And trust me. Only a true ninja who also happens to be superbly lucky can dodge your attacks in shadow shroud.
When I'm not playing Vel though, I usually have a bit of trouble with
.
Can you see your ult hitting Akali when she's in the shroud?
Don't think so but if she has low enough hp, sweeping from side so side should still get her. Otherwise just let the shroud go away. With that ult's range, not even the tower is safe so if her hp is low, she still won't make it far without flashing.
Her burst damage isn't so high. You have the internal CD for R. If you know how to play against her, you will build an oracle lenses/pink ward her in her shroud and burst her.
Note: Any assassins that gets a gigantic lead during early game tends to be unstopabble. Zed, riven, ahri, LB. You name it, at least akali doesn't have any CC and has to comit for a kill.
overpowered? nah. just too binary. for example;
can step forward when she ults and shove her under his turret, while attacking her, slowing her under what is essentially a giant pink ward that fights back, unable to dash out. she has to flash or zhonya to have any chance of surviving. however she can do very well vs cc light comps, or teams that don't invest in true vision
Toxic/Frustrating because of her dumb ass "Flash range low cd dash damaging resetting ult", her spellvamp, the fact that her kit is full point and click and her shroud, but not op.
Honestly, it's almost to the point they are going to nerf her just so she can (potentially) see consistent play in ranked, much like a less-serious case of The Kassadin.
I can't remember the last time she wasn't one of the first two bans I saw, and it amazes me that her ban rate is only 67% in the last week.
