Stop heckling your teammates every time they make a mistake.

  1. I'm sure they heckle themselves every time a mistake is made, they don't need you to do it.
  2. You're only gonna make them play worse.

yeah alot of people follow a unique motivation method If they insult, degrade, and hound you about every little mistake, You will magically become a pro. The worse you are left feeling about yourself, the better you play. though it is a unique motivation method, it currently has a....um....0% success rate, I believe. Insult them till thier pro.

GundayMonday7 votes

Used to play with a guy like this. I don't play with him any more. Coincidence?

rinsujo6 votes

Clearly not - since you stopped playing with him, the difference in your win rates has gotten enormous! that means it worked! Thanks to his slander and insults, you became a pro and he... his other teammates just havent gotten pro yet! yeah, that must be it.

Jeddy0177 votes

Rule 1 of LOL - Calling a player shit will make them not shit. It's the best way to improve your win rate... "Actually....." Oh correction, did I say winrate?I meant reported rate.My bad. Here we have a totally not paid for customer to prove. "Every since I started yelling at my teammates for their mistakes,my reported rate have gone up 100%." And what happened to you now? "I got Banned." See,Rule 1 of LOL is totally effective.Call now & we will tell you rule 2 of LOL.

IDK, anecdotal evidence suggests insulting a support main makes them more pro. Flame Soraka for KS'ing with AA? Fine, I will start hitting all the things with Starcall. And time it so it hits right. And build full AP.

What I'm trying to say is, suck it, flaming ADCs.

Shinjusuke1 votes

honestly, the spoiled and self-absorbed tier list goes

  1. Lee and Vi mains
  2. Teemo mains
  3. adcs
  4. mids
  5. 99.9% of udyr junglers after feral flare happened
  6. Bossy supports who hate adcs for being adcs
  7. tops that don't know other lanes exist.

Oh, and while you're at it, make sure you use a single game's worth of evidence to affirm just how much better you are as a player, and how bad they are.

Oh, and while you're at it, make sure you use a single game's worth of evidence to affirm just how much better you are as a player, and how bad they are.

can also use a bad game, a low rank (bronzie), or a single thing you dislike about that player to invalidate ANYTHING they have to say, whether it make sense or not. Because the weight of thier opinions is based on thier ranked position Bronze? any opinion is moot, you have no say in any debate regardless of how valid your point is. Silver? You can try and convince me Gold? Ok you may have a point Platinum: Yep, you know what you are talking about Challenger: YOUR WORD IS GOD!

Franco Sanchez7 votes

Right? Cause God only knows that if you're in something below Gold, you can't have any knowledge about a game.

I beg to differ. There is a significant portion of Bronze and Silver players who have good knowledge but poor mechanics.

there is no such thing, my mechanics are the poorest in the game and i have high ping.

anybody with good knowledge should easily be in diamond+

Vesarixx3 votes

Not necessarily, you can have great game knowledge but not be able to recognize when to apply it when you're in game, like knowing you should start item 3155 in a certain match up but rushing item 3134 anyway once you get in game just out of habit.

Don't forget to harass them about their rank even when you're going 0/12 compared to their 2/5 and they've stated several times that they don't play jungle, they just offered to fill. I learned this from a gold player.

People who do that mostly just have bad people skill. Instead of: "WOW YOU LET KATARINA ROAM gg" telling your mid laner: "Keep the pressure on your lane that will help bot lane since you can take mid if Kat roams" is A LOT better.

disregardable3 votes

It's also A LOT more likely to be completely ignored. Just saying.

blueberrypancake5 votes

And what happens when its not ignored. It could help someone get off of tilt after a bad play.

Shinjusuke2 votes

I think, honestly, that never happens. I think it comes off as condescending to people on tilt, mostly because historically the person (in my games, and not when I'm saying it either) takes it as being condescending.

Probably cuz it sounds condescending.

GundayMonday1 votes

Heckling =/= Constructive Criticism.

You can get people off tilt without being a complete jackass.

I wish people would tell me my mistakes instead of saying I'm just a Bronze 5 noob who has no idea how to play. That really doesn't help me, especially since I'm in Silver 1. Also, I'm pretty sure that if you went into a normal game and tried to be helpful, they'll just yell at you. Because...reasons.

It's pretty rare that someone else is watching the game enough to tell you what you did wrong. I'm sure you already know if you: overextended, lost a fight mechanically, etc. The kind of useful help would be: "Oh that Caitlyn an item advantage over you, careful next fight" but it's pretty rare someone is looking that closely at why you just died.

Pulsefire Jinx3 votes

I've never had an issue with someone making a few mistakes and getting crucified (what I mean by that is i've generally not noticed anyone get vicious over just that)

I do see people get particularily vicious when the laner doing poorly or the jungler start blaming one another for eachothers mistakes.

Usually at these points in games I end up spending a ridiculous amount of effort calming the parties involved down, which is typically when i'll veto the first surrender attempt take a bunch of flak and continue to keep people calm and focus on methodic team based objectives and engages.

You would not believe how often people can turn their game around after calming down and engaging in a solid teamfight.

Leblancs Boob3 votes

People just can't help themselves. Once your teammates start calling each other out for their mistakes they stop being teammates. They mute each other and stop communicating altogether or instead of playing they just sit there and call each other names for the rest of the game. I honestly don't understand why people always have to say something insulting to their own teammates just for a simple mistake.

Yesterday, I didn't heckle the Tristana I was laning with, I just said "Stop getting pulled by Thresh, that's 4 times already" (it was only 6 or 7 minutes in)

I said this so that he would think about what he was doing and realize he wasn't playing smart enough to win, and needed to change.

So there is a way to ask somebody to change, and sometimes being nice about it isn't as effective as being straightforward.

However, if I had cursed him out and made fun of him and called him "worst Tristana NA", I'm sure that it would have had a worse effect on our lane.

We won the game and he didn't report me (I don't think lol)

I don't care, they deserve it, if it causes baddies to uninstall and /wrists then it makes the game a better place

MidEvilKnight3k5 votes

First of all, they don't deserve it, and it won't cause them to hate the game and uninstall. It will only cause them and everyone else on your team who still want to win to hate you.

Second of all, if you take pleasure in the idea of other people cutting themselves, then you need to take a step back and evaluate your morals.

Third of all, you are a "baddy". Being bad at the game is not a reason to uninstall it. And I welcome you, a bad player, to continue playing.

P.S. I consider myself pretty bad, so telling me so isn't going to change anything.

having knowledge is one thing, having the ability to use said knowledge is another. especially in heat of the moment situations. and for that i would say bronze / silver players do not have the ability to use knowledge in heat of the moment situations.

"heckling" in itself isnt bad if you want to verbaly abuse your teammate (i dont know what heckling is so i assume its that) after his mistake its possible to even make it a possitive thing it all depends on the way you say it to him

most basic example of negatiwe "heckling" is when someone calls you a noob and then describes his sexual intercourses with members of your family

but i saw little of examples of possitive "heckling" despite it also existing and being a good thing overall

Heckling is not productive. The point of heckling in its common usage is to make some play worse by intentionally getting under their skin. The usual usage is during a sporting event like baseball. If you are a fan, heckling would be insulting the batter when he whiffs at a pitch in the hopes that it will make him mad and play worse thereafter. The problem with this in League of Legends is that you are doing this to your OWN TEAM. Why would you want to make your own team do worse? It makes no sense.

I think that's what he meant by 'negative heckling'. Giving criticism and advice (which I'm assuming he meant by positive heckling) isn't bad as long as you make sure it's being delivered in a constructive and positive manner. For example:

(Ezreal): omg fkin sona lrn2ward u fkin skrub (Sona): wtf? ward it yourself noob im going top lane w/ urgot hf 2v1ing

Vs

(Ezreal):Sona, could you put some wards at [insert location here] in case we get ganked? Thanks. (Sona): Sure. Play safe for a minute while I do it though.

Mikal Pikal3 votes

Heckling is the wrong word then. The intent of heckling is to get into their head in order to negatively effect their performance.

One of the best things about LoL is that it's a very team-oriented game. Consequently, one of the worst things about LoL is that you're relying on 9 other people to have fun. I would encourage people that have anything at all to say to their teammates to stay positive because of that.

If I'm in solo queue for 1.5 hours and all of my games are randomly ruined because:

  1. someone on my team AFKs 3 minutes into the game
  2. someone on the opposing team AFKs 3 minutes into the game
  3. my team is more concerned with finger-pointing than trying to salvage after falling behind VERY slightly
  4. my archaic computer decides that tabbing out during champion load is a grievous crime, and my punishment is not being able to do ANYTHING until I restart LoL client

then it's very hard to maintain interest in the next game if I come in and someone is being excessively negative. I'm annoyed enough that I will finish the game on autopilot and move on to doing something else.

It's not about insulting them, its about making them aware of their mistakes so they can improve.

Its not their fault you don't know how to take criticism. Some people can actually learn from other's comments on how bad they are and use that to improve.

"I'm hounding you and insulting you so you can get better, so it's justified!!"

There's such a thing as constructive criticism. "Heckling" was the word used, which simply implies criticism.

I never said that being disrespectful was ok.

Braum I'm just wondering how hard it is for some league players to politely ask their teammates to be careful or ask them whether they need help.

DXDMordred1 votes

I'm sure this will get downvoted no matter what.

In the real world this doesn't apply to actual employment.

If you get heckled every time you make a mistake, it better not make you work worse, or else you're probably going to be finding yourself another form of employment.

That's most likely where it comes from, because it's something that mature people understand. With that being said, if you are heckled at work for something you did wrong, you correct yourself, and you don't do it again.

If your mindset for any particular reason, creates you to play worse based on somebody else heckling you, then I don't think you have any inspiration or any intention on actually bettering yourself. You probably seem to believe you're fine at where you are, and you don't need to improve.

libraryseraph 2 votes

in the real world if your boss insults and yells at you for making a mistake instead of trying to correct you that's generally frowned upon also, league of legends isn't a job. it's a game, and your teammates are more close to your coworkers than your boss, and if at work you heckle and harass your coworkers for making mistakes, YOU WILL GET FUCKING FIRED. If you can't offer criticism without being an insulting asshole, then I don't think you actually have any investment in helping people to be better. You probably seem to believe you're smarter than anyone else, and just was to show it off

It doesn't matter if it's frowned upon, can you afford to lose your job? If not, then you suck up, be a bitch and learn to deal with it. Not sure what type of industry you work in if you correct your coworkers on their mistakes, thinking it will get you fired, I work in construction, if I feel the need to correct a coworker of mine, it's for their own safety, and when I speak up it's because I don't want to see them at their funeral.

The fact of the matter is, the vast majority (and when I say this, I mean literally, like WELL OVER 50%. But ACTUALLY 80-85% of the community is unskilled) - Sure this comment is just begging to be downvoted, because people think for whatever reason that they're actually good. Sure, in your own mind, in comparison to skilled players, not even close.

Sure I believe there's a strong difference between giving someone shit, and giving them positive criticism in hope that they improve their individual decision making, or else why are we even playing with other people in the first place? Why would you play an online multiplayer game with people you don't know, if your goal was not to improve, or help others improve? And if you refused to adhere to other players advice to progress your own skill, why would you play a multiplayer game with people you don't know?

there is a difference between heckling and insulting people and giving them constructive criticism. I do want to improve and help others improve. which is why I act like a decent, well-adjusted human being when talking to people because they are more likely to listen to me like that, and I have a tendency to not take advice from people who don't even have the basic skill to communicate without telling others they are terrible people and cursing at them

I don't disagree, I know people are more willing to listen to you if you're nice to them.

But with that being said, griefing is not acceptable just because someone isn't being nice to you. Two wrongs don't make a right.

What I was saying is people become accustomed to how things are in the real world, and naturally do not transfer over their customs to the fantasy world...some do. Some don't exist in the real 'working' world, and have don't understand.

Bah, it'd be less complex if I was able to really discuss what i'm actually talking about.
