every years its the same shit where theres just 3 months of the game being absolutely atrocious to play and all for the sake of not inconveniencing the 50 pro players whilst the other millions (probably lower honestly after this shit season) scream at a fucking brick wall over and over.Graves Khazix Akali honestly might be done with this shit game if shit doesnt change real quick.

Let's at least get one thing straight - Riot doesn't actually do this for the sake of the pros. The bot lane situation this year wasn't for their sake.

The do this for the viewers. That's an important distinction. They are buffing things that they hope will add some variety to Worlds. They are avoiding buffing things that would become pick/ban there. They don't do that for the sake of the pros. The pros will work around it, like they always do. They do it because the community complains when a champ is pick/ban. There's nothing interesting about watching a champ get banned every game because it's OP.

You can still hate it if you want, but let's not pretend that they do it for DoubleLift. I think that's demonstrably false.

Seer of Mind26 votes

ok but why would they do it in the first place, nobody asked for flashy plays or champions, nobody asked for a one-shot meta, just because it gets viewers doesn't mean it should be done.

ModKnightsKemplar8 votes

Let me be abundantly clear; I'm not defending the decision.

I just think the criticism will mean more if you say what you just said; they aren't doing it for the pros, so it's a non-starter to ask them to stop doing if for the pros. We have to be correct in our logic to have an effective argument as players.

Seer of Mind1 votes

I just don't understand why they're prioritizing the viewers over the actual players. It doesn't make sense. Why trash your own community just for people who more than likely don't even play or know too much about the game, but only watch it.

ModKnightsKemplar1 votes

I think "viewers" and "players" have a lot of overlap. What's good for one is good for the other, to a certain extent. I think Boards, as a group, may disproportionately contain people who play more than they watch pros, but it may be flipped for the wider LoL community.

If that isn't true, then I definitely agree with you. As a player, I do get frustrated that it feels like we can't have big changes unless we're between seasons. I do not like that. I never have, and I never will. I'm just not sure that my personal opinion is reflective of the best business practice for them.

It certainly is like that, but there have been few cases in the recent patches that were actually good for both sides. (Adding more choices for bot lane, ect.) Still though, that's few. a lot of the changes have not been so great for players (Lucian Q buff, Kha'Zix buff, Darius, Fiora, ect.) only adding more fuel for hate.

tbf, people DID ask for a one-shot meta. All of last season people complained about not being able to kill the adc on fighters and assassins. So they made them able to be killed.

I despise this meta.

you're right: They do it for the pros **AND **marketing, with all the new chromas for kha'zix, better make it broken to make people play him and buy the skin

Nilok9 votes

Doing it for the viewers is just as bad, if not worse.

League of Legends is meant to be a game you play, not simply watch. If they were doing it for Pros, then it would be based on at least some gameplay, but instead, they are doing it for Joe Shmoe watching a video online to entice him into trying to play the game. However, due to the game feel, people who try and play get turned away, along with existing people, causing a net negative.

The first and foremost thing a game designer needs to do when making and balancing a game is the gameplay and game feel, as that is the primary way the game's audience is supposed to interact with it. If a game is also fun to watch, that is a bonus on top, and good gameplay and game feel often lead into enjoyable content to watch.

If they want to make the game for viewers instead of the people actually playing the game, they should just stick to making movies.

I agree. I will say, it's a balance that was bound to be difficult to strike exactly right. They are modeling their eSports around existing sports, but those existing sports typically don't have to balance for pros and high school. You just have different rules if you need to do that for different skill levels.

But that's not really an excuse. I think hearing that the game has become less fun as a result of their pro play focus is a valid criticism that Riot needs to hear. You've struck the nail on the head, imo.

if they wish rise viewers numbers they need to remove snowballing, moment the first blood doesnt mean lost game pros will dare change picks and make some plays but risk is too high so best strategy is farm, utility and wait for oponent mistake. Just personal opinion but lower damage significantly, remove snowballig, remove solo carrying (its team game) so players can show skills, dance around skill shots in lane without dieing if something touch you make ward remove invisibility, make ultimate CD ultimate, rework every dmg rune to some sort of utility, defense or resource etc. and remove summoner spells or at last ignite and flash if they are sooooo needed make mediocre items with them with looong cd.., sorry for english :D

3TWarrior1 votes

most of this was correct, but I disagree with making it where players can not solo carry

they can reduce the effectiveness of champions that are pub stompers, but ultimately, when you reduce the value of one player, you weaken the entire team

an official reason has not been given yet, but Faker's team, the #1 player in the world...he got benched and it likely has to do with that the champions he is good at playing are no longer able to solo carry

i dont know, team oriented game so ONE man army who can win game single handedly feels wierd to me. one thing is have strong player a work with him to victory other thing is have stomper who completly invalidates his and enemy team...

3TWarrior2 votes

I thought that is what I just said. Certain champs can basically destroy the enemy team by themselves if they are strong

they should be great when ahead, but not katarina or yi levels of pub stomping.

This is literally how Blizzard killed Starcraft 2, and riot apparently thought it would be wise to do the same damn thing. STOP BALANCING AROUND "fun to watch" AND RETURN TO BALANCING AROUND "fun to play".

Doesn't matter how "exciting" LCS is, the people that left the game because they are sick of getting chunked for over 50% of their health at level 3 by every single champion in the game aren't watching worlds. The lane swap pro meta was absolutely dull as dirt to watch, but viewership numbers were way higher than they are now, and it isn't rocket science, if people enjoy playing the game they are going to tune in to the competitions, even if they aren't super fast paced games. If they hate playing the game no amount of flashy LC$ big plays is going to make them tune in.

Milky Situation6 votes

Couldnt agree more. Every fucking season i think man the changes might help they seem fun but every fucking season the same disgusting bullshit continues to be allowed. Why riot? Why the fuck are you ridiculous shit for brains allowing your game to decline. I have less and less fun playing the game every day. Currently looking for a new game where hopefully the devs have even the smallest amount of common sense necessary to hire a balance team that understands how the game works. Never in a game have i truly felt that the most disconnected players in the game are the players who create the game. Get a fucking clue riot.

Packun Flower6 votes

Reasons why I boycott worlds/LCS and proplay.

As much as I like the championship kha skin i won't be buying it.

When I first started playing LoL i wanted to get into the esports aspect of it but when I found out that Riot treats is casual players like utter garbage for the sake of making pro-players more comfortable I decided then and there I'd boycot any aspect of tournament and proplay I could and to this day I do, I stopped buying championship skins, i wont be buying a worlds pass for the event.

Im bored with these threads, 90% of op comp picks are oppressive in high elo too.

Balancing about comp/high elo is best form of balancing, BUT:

-recent Darius buffs are pointless, and didn't adress champion weaknesses. -Fact that Kai'sa and Jhin are dominating games is really nerfworthy -Janna buffs were a mistake -Pyke buffs were unneeded without nerfs which they are planning

These champions deserve to be gutted, due to them dominating both PRO PLAY and HIGH ELO while being strong: Kalista Azir Ryze

I understand some of you are angry due to recent buffs/nerf, but hating on entire philosophy of balancing around pro play/high elo is plain out stupid.

kurdt9111 votes

Just had a conversation with my D1-D2 friend about Kalista and he said that she never was a problem. He is Darius otp and can be easily kited by her. So gtfo.

LTK KoRo1 votes

Yeah, because single hardstuck D1 is a entirety of high elo, and only his opinion is valid

opinion of challengers/master players>opinion of your imaginary friend

kurdt9112 votes

Proof link pls where some of pros said that Kalista is a PROBLEM in SoloQ(not competetive) or gtfo. Because she never was a problem in soloq.

LTK KoRo1 votes

Yeah, im going to search now through milions of videos/tweets/whatever just to get you a proof what about no. She was a problem in soloq when strong due to her being a fucking lane bully who scales into a best objective taker in game, and everyone in high elo knew that

so you should gtfo, child

kurdt9111 votes

They never said that she broken or problematic in soloq. So gtfo. Oh wait. Why im even bothered by this? You are unranked low skilled player xD

Thilmer4 votes

At this point, we need completely different servers form proplayers and normal players.

I'm tired of suffering strange nerfs adn buffs that are focused only in the 0,01% of the player base.

Biscuit Bite4 votes

Buff champions so they can sell skins. Nerf champions so they have flashy plays, let's not forget about bugs, bugs after bugs. They didn't even try to update their "Game Info" section. You'll still find pictures of when the game had mana potions.

Indie company for sure.

I wouldn't really mind if it was just one month honestly, because I understand that pro scene can be important for revenue and a nice tradition of reprieve to watch how a game can ideally be played. Pro month is fine. But it's that they lead up to it and out of it, making the game even worse for balance for at least three months that's so bothersome.

The game isn't balanced around pro play, nor is it balanced around regular players. It's a mix, something else they attempt to balance because they want both to be in synergy. That makes for frustrating states of champions and indecisive nerfs and buffs that are not equal or fair for many other champions because the state of changes they make for the season influences the next and directly analyzes pro play when the season comes around. It's really just a mess in philosophy before it ever even makes it to the balance table -- which I'm sure is a completely different mess.

Need Gold 4 Tent1 votes

Flashy plays are more "relatable" to non-players of the game. Watch those old season tourneys where people farm it out, play carefully and generally just don't die.

Non-players typically think: WTF is this boring game, nothing is happening. Every gank fails, lanes just trade back and forth without seeming to achieve anything. Then suddenly, 2 teamfights later into an 8/2 score followed by a win shortly. There was a macro game going on behind the scenes that eventually led to the one-sided win for the winning side. That was the era where simple champs still had their place in league.

There was a "minigame" going on. As you see the gold lead in lanes start to increase, at one point everything just starts happening at once and the game ends. But in actuality, the game was already "over" for a while, it's just not obvious for the viewers and they might think "ah, just a fluke that team got the 5/0 ace". The buildup of cs leads and objectives at one point becomes a reliable victory for the team that won the macrogame, and the steamroll style ending is just a formality.

THAT is a proper strategy game, not the flash here dash there pew pew bomb bomb everyone dies fiasco we get nowadays.

Neptunia xoxo1 votes

Most people in pro play have been playing for an extremely long time so they are kinda used to changes happening 24/7 and bad metas but honestly if I were in the pro scene right now in this current state I'd 100% lose my mind with all these bad changes that happen especially with how bad this season and the last season have been it just sounds awful lol but there is no point playing this game competitive if you are not gaining something other than a small achievement like a rank from it.

4.19 was the last time LoL was worth playing imo.

Dying in <.5s, aftershock essentially granting in-lane invincibility, and focusing balancing on flashiness rather than actual playability are examples of the 'great' decisions that continue to prove disgruntled fans like me right.
