Both will be next year, both their actual releases and any teasers/promo stuff for them. Warwick's the next large scale update that will come out and will be out before the next new champion.

no warwick for next patch? :(

No.

Can someone at riot tell me why runes are so expensive? How does making them so expensive make the game fair? Why do I have to decide between playing different champions and having an in game advantage? Why have 0 rioters ever responded to this?

corbear0072 votes

It's business strategy, they don't respond because they cannot, they are bound by a contract and could lose their job. Want a short answer? Spend IP on runes/pages no IP for champs, some want new champ so they buy it with RP which = $$

KSHarrison6 votes

He's not responding because rune pricing has nothing to do with a champion designer's job, and even if it were, he probably still wouldn't respond out of principle, because every time a Rioter takes a moment to try and be helpful with a simple post, they get these same dumbass off-topic, demanding questions that derail discussion. It's like people see a Rioter post as an invitation to a full-on AMA or something.

RiotMeddler10 votes

We're planning to do some work on runes sometime next year - there are a number of things about them we think we could improve. It's also a system with a lot of history to it, much of which is outside of my area of expertise and that of most Rioters. That's why it's not a topic that gets responded to much.

Thanks

Couldn't you just give a band-aid fix like reducing the prices, or maybe offering more sales?

ProvidenceNox1 votes

They could, but Riot seems to have something against band-aid fixes. For example, they said they would give a few to Aatrox in the pre-season, but now they've pushed it off to next year. I can understand they might not want to spend too much time balancing temporary fixes, but still...

MlacFury3 votes

I totally get the decision to avoid band aids. With a few exceptions temporary fixes tend to have quality issues, persist way longer than originally intended, create unintended side effects and is overall more costly than a proper rework.

The one aspect of riot that stands out to me is their level of quality is way above other games companies. Oh and their community engagement is second to none. :)

Chromatic Eagle4 votes

Champions I understand, but these are runes. There are no unintended side effects for making runes, or at least the pages, cheaper. They could also provide more sales. One during the preseason, one during the midseason, and one near the end of the season.

Sona Ping2 votes

There are side effects. Inherent side effects because Runes are a part of the F2P business model and this sort of thing extends beyond just the gameplay.

Averia3 votes

Riot earns a good 90% of their revenue from champion and skin sales. Runes aren't even buyable, and you can only buy max 20 rune pages (with a 7 page bundle that cuts the cost of the pages down by like 30-40% as well?).

Making them cheaper won't really affect their business model at all - because making runes IP purchasable only already affected the entire F2P model of their rune system. They've already made it clear with that change that "Runes are not meant to be a buy-to-excel" aspect of the game. In fact that was exactly what they said when they made that change, like 5 seasons ago now.

And you know the percentages because you are looking at some Riot official earnings breakdown kind of thing? Or are you making numbers up and passing them off as fact because it sounds correct to you? Runes are bought using the numerical incentivization of play portion of the game known as IP, it is as such inherently linked to the business model of Freemium games like this. Champions are bought with RP and IP. Rune Pages, which you even mention yourself, are bought with RP and IP. This does effect the game as a business.

I would imagine another reason why they still make runes harder to obtain than most people would want them to be might be because if runes were easy to obtain then that is just another lower barrier to creating infinite smurfs. Could allow those toxic players to care much much less about getting permabanned if it gets even easier to make/buy new accounts lol. At higher rank it might not matter as much in terms of having infinite smurfs because they are making it harder to maintain alot of smurfs.

I also think another reason why they dont allow RP purchases of runes (even tho smurfs would probably buy them to make life so much easier). Is so that if people do buy accounts that were like SUPER pushed from (1-30) with like double XP boost, then it wont have good runes or any at all lol. So it forces the purchased account owner to atleast grind IP for playable runes.

Myrmiron1 votes

Does that mean you're gonna kill AP WW then like you did with AP Tristana? -_-

Altonius Amakiir1 votes

As far as I can tell from mulling over the warwick stuff thats been posted here and there, the plan is most likely to completely change scaling to ap, because they want him to be a tank, and tanks scale better with ap. As speculation only I would assume they would give lower scalings though to prevent the current off-pick magewick(although it doesnt work too great to begin with).

Myrmiron1 votes

It may not work too great, but it's fun as hell! (like AP Tristana which was never a balance issue, but they still fcked her for some reason...)

status on Urgot?

RiotMeddler13 votes

Monstrous.

Also a likely candidate for an update next year (definitely not before Galio or Warwick at least though).

Spideraxe2 votes

Do you think in 2018 you guys can get to like the next tier of reworks, the ones that aren't meme status

RiotMeddler14 votes

I've got a suspicion there'll always be 'meme status' reworks. As one falls another takes its place.

MunchCrunchLunch9 votes

how about Teemo I think we can all agree he needs to be a real champion that you know is good the way he is meant to be played. not an on hit tank or whatever. hes not fun to play against but at the same time he isn't viable against most team comps.

hes been meme status for a long time and his kit has never changed ever since his release.

Hige1 votes

uhm I think that there is a limit though, when you get to rework Nunu, Urgot, Teemo, Malphite and Evelynn, the remaining ones aren't all that bad looking O.o

Altonius Amakiir1 votes

Nunu got a small rework on his passive, q, r, and base stats; and although it looks small, it had a huge impact on both my gameplay and his win rate. Like his q was basically worthless before, paired with his w which is fairly situational, and an ult that had a high fail rate, he really only had one working ability. The old q was giving him different buffs for eating different jungle monsters, and if the one you needed to match your play style was already dead you would be put behind, if laning you would fall behind trying to go to the right camp to get the buff you needed, it was just not worth it. Now it doesnt matter which you get it from, and the stacks last longer. Also having it be one stat increase rather than 5 small ones, gives a clearer build path. The increase in base AD and AD scaling made w a little less situational, and having the way the slow in his ult works made it so that if you used it when standing right next to someone they could no longer escape, and you wouldnt have to interupt early for less damage.

Hige1 votes

O.o I mean I agree, the gameplay change on nunu was huge for the champion but his visuals were untouched :P until that happens he'll be meme material

Anth8951 votes

Doesn't mean people won't meme about them.

Does Ezreal fit in somewhere along this timeline?

How about Irelia? :D

Krabby2 votes

What about ryze? how many reworks will he get in season 2017?

marktater272 votes

So I'm confused. WW will be out before or after Camille? Please be more clear when you already have a "new champion" coming down the pipe.

RiotMeddler5 votes

Camille comes out in December (hence she's on the PBE right now).

Warwick will come out after Camille.

Other major updates and new champions will come out after Warwick.

Abyssphere3 votes

Try using your common sense. Camille is coming out this week - how on Earth would Warwick be released first?

Sozan52 votes

Hey, I know this has absolutely nothing to do with Galio and WW reworks but I'm just following the guidelines.

[...] mention Teemo as often as possible.

What do you think of Teemo current state in regards to trap-disables and are there any plans for him/vision? Because pre-season is really rough for his ultimate. I'd love if you'd look at this thread too.

Liquid Poro 1 votes

So after the new champion comes out to live server you can start rework Warwick on pbe?

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

Could you say if galio will be keeping (or have something similar to) his ult? I really do enjoy that part of his kit.

Liquid Poro 1 votes

Yeah but n1 play him that's weird maybe it's going to be a secret pick hmmmm

Rishal211 votes

So I assume then that the Warwick rework will be up in March or April.

Celeste Benal1 votes

{quoted}

Warwick's the next large scale update that will come out and will be out before the next new champion.

Post made December 1. Camille released Dec 7. I'm going to assume since Camille was already on the PBE that you meant that Warwick rework will be out before the next champion after Camille. So we can expect so see his rework on the PBE in the next.... 30 days?

Sukishoo2 votes

They are currently both being worked on, WW will be released first most likely January-February with Galio a bit later on.

Pierce The Veal1 votes

Who's Galio? Is that a champion?

Liquid Poro 1 votes

Meddler, I wonder thAt since a lot of rework going on so can you please check the schedule by reworking champion or class update.
