Ideas for a/the Shaco rework
From what I've read online, a Shaco rework is on the waiting list.
Here's what I would create out of Shaco if I were the only one in charge of the rework. I peaked at Dia V last season, so take the stuff here with a grain of salt, this kit might not be optimal, balanced or even implementable with reasonable effort.
Anyway, here's what I came up with:
Passive - Backstab: Reason: Delay his burst and shift his power towards marking enemies first before executing them. Burst shouldn't be 80% first autoattack and then 20% shiv, but instead 60% first autoattack and the rest afterwards
- Attacking a target from behind (autoattacks or E) deals bonus damage and marks them
- Upon being marked, the enemy is slowed by 80% for 0.5 seconds
- If the mark is applied by a spell or autoattack that's cast out of invisibility, the enemy is feared instead and slowly walks away from Shaco
- Marked enemies are slowed by 5/10/15% while walking away from shaco
- Damage from Shaco against marked target is amplified by 10%
- Optional but fun interaction: Shaco can't be feared by other abilities and instead verbally interacts with the one trying to fear him.
Q - Deceive: Reason: This is Shaco's core ability and it just can't be changed. It's pretty much perfect the way it is right now. Only the bonus damage could be removed if it would be too overpowered otherwise.

W - Jack in the Box
Reason: Just quality of life changes that should have been implemented a long time ago.
- The box becomes invisible and armed after
2-> 1.5 seconds and stays there for1-> 2 minutes.- Instant cast animation (that can be executed while walking). This allows the player to actually plan to block skillshots and you don't have to waste the ability while trying to predict stuff that doesn't even happen.
- Health bar similiar to Zyra's plants to avoid them being oneshot by aoe that isn't even meant for killing them
- Can still be used to trigger Teemo's shrooms (Please don't remove this, it's way too much fun)
- Has an attack speed boost against marked targets, but weaker damage compared to now otherwise
- Attack prioritization: Marked champion > Nexus > Inhibitor > Turret > Champion > Other Units (Zyra's plants, Heimerdinger Turrets), Pets, Wards (yes, wards!) > Jungle monsters > Minions. Reason: You don't get tower aggro because of retarded boxes unless you want to kill that guy anyway. Doesn't prioritize minions over champions anymore. Being able to kill wards that you see, but that are over a wall would be really cool as a quality of life change.
E - Two Shiv Poison:
- Throws out a dagger in a straight line (600 range) that pierces through units and deals physical damage (flat + %missing hp)
- Deals bonus damage (scales with bonus ad & ap) upon hitting marked targets, slows them by 30% for 1 second and makes them bleed for the second half of the bonus damage over 1.5 secs (no more oneshots)
Ultimate - Hallucinate: Reason: Huge changes. Zed, Tibbers and Kog'Maw combined.
- Shaco disappears for 0.75 seconds and creates a clone of himself at the target location within 200/300/400 range.
- During the cast animation, Shaco can reactivate the ability to switch places with the clone.
- If Shaco is invisible while casting his ultimate, the clone will be invisible as well.
- The clone has separate cooldowns and his abiliies can be executed while holding down (alt/r + q/w/e). No active items or summoner spells, though.
- The clone's cooldowns are displayed either above the normal abilities (similiar to Kha'Zix) or above its head (to be able to see it quickly in the heat of battle)
- The clone's abilities deal 50% less damage (25% against marked targets)
- On clone death: The clone detonates in a cloud of smoke with Shaco's face on it (similiar to Ziggs' Ult, but a with 600 units diameter. Option A: Enemies hit by the detonation have their vision reduced for 2/3/4 seconds Option B: The detonation leaves a cloud of gas behind that stays on the ground for 2/3/4 seconds and slows units inside by 20% while reducing their vision Option C: The cloud stays on the ground for 2/3/4 seconds and acts like Yvern's Bushes while slowing enemies inside by 10% (or whatever Graves has on his e)
- On Shaco's death: The camera switches towards his clone and he can keep playing until the clone is either killed or expires (similiar to Kog'maw/Karthus combined). All the abilities now trigger the clone's abilities and movement commands also work on the clone.
Additional notes and thoughts on it:
With these changes, Shaco should be able to kill a squishy target within 1.5 seconds. He should have to backstab once for that to mark the target and also hit his e on the marked target. His boxes shouldn't be necessary to kill someone and should instead be used to block any escape routes.
Ap Shaco should still be possible, therefore he should have ap ratios on his e (strong) and boxes (weak). His ultimate now doesn't deal damage while detonating, so his e has to compensate for that. Boxes shouldn't be necessary to kill ppl as ap Shaco, too, instead, you have to hit both of your daggers.
Offtank Shaco should also be possible, to instead focus around helping your adc with boxes and keeping the enemy adc busy with your clone. Base damages should be reasonable, so that he has to build at least two offensive items to deal any real damage.
Lane shaco now has some counterplay because you can actually dodge his e. It wont help you though, if you run into his boxes, but that's on you.
There should be WAY more voice lines and a ton of interaction with different champs and more jokes.
Possible problems:
- A skillcap straight up doesn't exist. This is good on the one hand, but makes balancing extremely hard on the other.
- Bonus damage on his q is probably too much
- The fear on his passive should probably be removed
- Being a programmer myself, I can imagine that reworking his ultimate like that could be really difficult
- His ultimate could be overwhelming for beginners and requires a lot of planning before entering the fight to use properly. It shouldn't be too hard to execute a properly planned strategy though. Shaco is all about planning anyway, so #getgud.
