AFK LP Issue reposted (solved?!?!?)

Ok so I made a post earlier asking about losing LP while someone else was afk during a match because it seemed unfair to lose that LP because of one or two people. This is the link to that previous post: http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/EdFLfKMN-afk-lp?comment=00020000 . After learning a bit I came up with this solution. (this is about to get hella complicated) Per afk player, a 25% LP loss reduction will be given to the remaining players. (1 afk = 25%, 2 afk = 50%, 3 afk = 75%, 4 afk = 100%) You can only get the reduction if the afk player was afk for more than 5 or 10 minutes. For this example we will assume that each player on the losing side lost 16 LP. In the case of two people being afk then the three who remain will each receive the 50% LP loss reduction making them instead lose 8 LP each. Now LP still has to balance out. The remaining players dodged losing 24 LP total (8 times 3). That remaining LP will be split between the two afk players as additional punishment for going afk so they will each lose 12 more LP (28 total). If four people go afk then the remaining player will not lose any LP each afk player will instead lose 4 more LP (16/4 = 4) making them lose a grand total of 20 LP. It may seem that the LP amount may overwhelm the afk player, but it balances out across the board. If one player went afk in this situation then they would lose 32 LP which is quite a bit, but that is the punishment they get for afk. This will help reduce people going afk for getting flamed since they don’t want to lose even more LP. If an afk player returns at any point during the match then no reduction will be given to anyone. On the flip side, people may find it unfair if they win a match with someone who goes afk. This same rule can be applied in a different way. Each afk player during a winning match will be given a 25% IP reduction and the remaining LP will be split among the rest of the team. However, this is only 25% reduction. No matter how many players go afk during a winning match they will always be given 25% reduction so that remaining player can’t just leap up to the next rank for nothing. I really hope that someone understands this because it may be a little confusing and I may even just make a new discussion based off of this. These amounts and percentages are only examples to get this idea out there. Please someone tell me they understand this!!

That seems to be a great idea to me. It can keep the balance of LP people win vs LP people lose while people having an afk on their side won't lose as much LP because of the pretty obvious lose (for a "normal" 4v5) and afk-ers will be punished at the same time! I love the idea!!

I hope riot can consider this solution :)

The idea that I could lose over 30 LP for my internet going out is a little scary.

The 25% was only an example. I just chose it because it was easy to do an example with and it can be easily changed. It is true that there are the incidents where your internet goes out for various reasons, however, if bad internet if a frequent problem for you and you go afk a lot then you would deserve afk punishment rather than a person who has a bad lightning storm one night. Why play league with bad internet? I also now think that the LP loss reduction percentage should be based off of the number of afk player and the amount of LP that the remaining four players are losing. I'm going to do some math and see if I can come up with a simple equation that I will then post on this page.

The problem with punishing people who AFK, is that not all AFK's are the players fault. You are going to end up punishing innocent people, and I'm not a big fan of that.

Really, AFK's aren't much of a problem. Since there is a 55% chance for the other team to get one and only a 45% chance of your team getting one, they even out over the long term.

I think about Ranked this way and it has helped me tremendously:

40% of your games are going to be lost due to DC/AFK/Feeder/Troll/etc on your team.

40% of your games are going to be won due to a DC/AFK/Feeder/Troll/etc on the enemy team.

Only about 20% of the games you play in Ranked will you be able to have a real, meaningful impact in. It is those games that you have to identify and make sure your contribution is positive and leads your team to a win. In the rest of them, you just have to play as smart as possible and try to give your team as many advantages as possible, or, at the very least, as few disadvantages as possible. Who knows, some of those 40% lost games could be turned around with good teamwork.

I've made one more post with rules that make it to where people who go afk because of an internet issue won't get punished. This new system only targets players who frequently go afk leaving innocent players spared. Also included is a whole new equation on how the LP system works. Little complicated but it makes it fair for everyone. http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/qE0Y8QF5-my-final-thoughts-on-losing-lp-in-ranked-because-of-an-afk-players
